It's true. And the manner in which it presents raw aspects of the lives of the living augments the realities of how the show addresses death. It's not an exaggeration to say that it's also one of the best dramatic TV series ever made.

I remember watching the theme as a little kid. Watching the people die in the beginning of every episode, read their lifespan years on the screen and then watching this theme. First time I ever truly learned about death and how short life is.
I think The Sopranos was better, but Six Feet Under had a very strong effect on me. I remember feeling actually depressed and dreadful at points, and I don't think a poorly written/produced show could accomplish that.

I remember flipping through the channels on the television, and this creepy music caught my attention. I watched the first show and became hooked on it.
The opening scene always made me so sad when the hands were pulled apart. I had lost my precious husband 4 years earlier and I remember the feeling that those hands represented. I had kissed him goodbye for the last time that morning, never dreaming it would be the last.😢
No show or movie hit me harder on an emotional level. There have been better shows imo like sopranos but nothing has ever stuck with me like six feet under. The only show or movie I actually miss

This was the first and one of two shows i bought. I nearly watched...heard this music every time. There´s no better way to interpret life in a instrumental way than this. It fits to every season, every part. Over 30 years working in this job as a nurse I know: That´s the way life goes and ends. Exactly. Of course it touched me in a different deep kind to all those other loud and spectacular series i enjoyed, too. With it´s calm art of narratation with this powerful facettes of the violence of different emotions of individuums to the same facts it fascinated me as much as possible. I hope, that my english as a German is "understandable".
Can you believe I had to purchase season 1 and 2 on VHS on Ebay to watch this around 2003 on my 19in Sony Trinitron? I am not sure if Torrents existed back then.
This is one of the best theme songs ever composed for a TV series. E flat minor is an unusual key signature (i.e. six flats by the clef -- relative major key of G flat major) for TV theme songs, and it's absolutely PERFECT for this piece and the show's subject matter.
Interesting. I only learned the melody line on guitar (played on a violin I'd guess on the recording, maybe a small horn). It is in E flat dominant pentatonic aka mixolydian pentatonic. One of my favorite scales - the minor 7 gives it some solemnity while the major third adds an uplifting element but without sounding happy. Beautiful piece of music and it perfectly fits the show.
@@jackreynolds6535 The use of accidentals will affect the resulting mode unless the composer uses an unorthodox key signature notation. I believe this has six flats in its key signature and thus it would be G-flat major or E-flat minor. I'll leave the modality to you and others here.
I started watching this show before my mother passed away. I dont know why the intro gives me so much peace and even a feeling of assurance about her death.
He's really good. He's such a relatable character on this show, I feel such a bond to his character. I love his acting. His portrayal is so personal, so intimate, you feel like he could be you. Or vice versa. Love that easy-going, beautiful smile. Wow.

i think so. my thought is it might be a version that didn't make the cut in the very beginning while the sfu creators were working with the digital kitchen company. or it's just been altered for copyright purposes. who knows.
My wife was watching some Chinese drama and they just ripped this off, wholesale. I haven't seen or heard the show for a long time now, as I watched it when it first came out. As the Chinese show wafted up from downstairs, I thought, 'That sounds familiar'. A few seconds later, I thought, 'Six Feet Under' and made my way here. Those thieving bastards. :-)
when I was like 13 years old, there were some movies in HBO like American beauty, and I thought there was a part of six feet under tv show, 'cause the soundtracks are quite similar
Andrés N. That’s because the brilliant film composer Thomas Newman wrote the score for American Beauty and this main theme for this show. I’m still pissed that he hasn’t won the Oscar many times over by now!

I think I may have been into this series because of this music. That and Rachel Griffiths. Why she was not all over (at least) the Naughties and the 10s is a big mystery to me.
Six feet under, marshall law, passions, days of our lives cartoon networks and the other great tv shows i use to watch back in the days when i was young those were the godd days. Too bad tv now is shit and havent watched it for like a year haha
Cameron Duvall it also sounds so similar to the Lemony Snicket movie soundtrack! Newman also composed that music too. It just sounds so similar hhahah.
