@@ruhr45 Gdansk wurde durch Westslawen gegründet nicht durch Germanen. das ist wissenschaftlich historisch belegt bzw die ofizielle Geschichte der Stadt. Es war über 700 Jahre zu Polen, wollte nie zu Preussen gehören, kam in seiner Geschichte ausschließlich durch Kriege unter deutsche Fremdherrschaft. Volkszählungen nach den Teilungen sind obsolet weil Dland auf den neuen Gebieten in Polen systematisch poln Kultur zerstörte und Sprache, dazu germanisierte. Alle Gebäude die man heute sieht sind durch polnische Hände restauriert und wiederaufgebaut worden. 98% der heutigen Bevölkerung sind Polen. Zudem hat Polen schon jetzt eine Armee mit der es Dland binnen ein paar Tagen niederrennen würde. Aber Urlaub ist ja auch schön, wünsche viel Spaß in Polen :)

Historische Unruhen (Kriegserweiterungen) führten dazu, dass Danzig unter deutschen Einfluss geriet und germanisiert wurde. Auch Deutschland hat Einfluss auf die Entwicklung Danzigs. Es ist eine unbestreitbare Tatsache, dass in dieser Stadt zwei Kulturen aufeinanderprallen, die polnische und die deutsche. Es ist auch unbestreitbar, dass Danzig historisch gesehen eine polnische Stadt ist.
I am sick og listening to all this shitty history. The truth is that: Until 1945 Danzig/Gdansk was a city with a large German majority that was wrongfully expelled, you cannot justify that with history - as well as Gdansk is a polish City today with a big polish majority that was born and raised in the city and have the right to belong to whatever country they like. AND it does not give any since to argue wether Gdansk was "originally" German or Polish many centuries back. It was none and both. At the time the city was founded, europe was very densely populated - especially in those eastern parts and areas very small by today standards could be populated with different tribes/groups that had VERY complicated ethnic composition - The categorisation of "slavic" and "Germanic" tribes was something the romans invented about some distent groups outside the roman empire. Much of the Gdansk we see today traces back to the citys history as an important harbour on a chain of citys that trade with one another - And these merchant mostly spoke German! Note that germany didn't really exist until 1871, so it wasn't a part of Germany for that reason. AND just because a city first belonged to a state where the term "Polish" is, doesn't mean that the inhabitants were poles just as it dosn't mean they where Lithuanians because of the "polish-lithauranian commenwealth" or "kingdom of Poland" And it wasn't German because of it belonging to Germany after 1871. It was a German/polish/kashubian/Yiddish/Hebrew populated city that until 1945 mostly had a German majority, but belonged to many different states thought history. All this abuse of history to justify modern politics is out of place!!! Gdansk today is a Polish city, but with a very interesting multiethnic history, where German speaking people has a huge place! - Where is that a problem? It should make stronger bonds between Poland and Germany that the countrys has so much good culture and history in common!! Of cause one should not forget ww2, but remembering it by being hostile to one another can't be the right lesson to learn, right?

West Prussia/Pomorze was and is Polish,and forever will be! Poles have owned it for 600 years,while Germany only occupied it for 100 years. Most cities in Pomorze have been built by the Poles,one major one for example:Gdańsk. Gdańsk (Kashubian: Gduńsk; German: Danzig) is one of the oldest cities in Poland. Founded by the Polish ruler Mieszko I in the 10th century, the city for most of its existance was a part of Piast state either directly or as a fief. West Prussia/Pomorze only became German after the Partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth,when Germany stole it from Poland. But luckily it returned to the motherland,and its rightful owner;Poland. I hope that Germany won't try to steal any Polish land ever again. Because what it did during the partitions was beyond horrible...it took Polish lands (they were historically and ethnically Polish) and tried to Germanize them,also Germany tried to remove obvious traces of previous Polish owners,but it failed! These areas had Polish organizations and kept the Polish ethnic majority. I guess you could say that Karma came back for Germany after WW2 for stealing Polish lands. Cheers.

Ich weiß nicht, ob man hier von einer deutschen, bzw. rein deutschen Erbe sprechen kann - Warum? - Polen war hunderte Jahre lang ein Vielvölkerstaat. Deutsch war neben polnisch und Latein genauso lang eine Amtssprache. Diese "Deutschen" waren keine Fremden, genauso wie ihre Sprache - Ein Pole zu sein war nicht wie heute vor allem an die Sprache gebunden - Man konnte deutsch sprechen und dennoch ein Pole sein. Erst nach den Teilungen Polens und wegen des aufkommenden Nationalismus wurde das kompliziert.
Ich finde es nur schade das die Schuldfrage immer wieder so einseitig ausgelegt wird. Kulturhistorisch war der Film super, auch was die Architektur anlangt.

Danzig tez jest poprawnie - Nasz kraj byl krajem wielonarodowosciowym. Jezyk niemiecki byl obok laciny i polskiego przez wieki jezykiem urzedowym. Mozna bylomowic po niemeicku i byc jednoczesnie Polakiem, wzglednie poddanym polskiego krola.

Nice pics, but too much propaganda and distortion. He manages to get through his story without once mentioning that the city was overwhelmingly German in population, culture and architecture for hundreds of years. The last census held before the war showed Danzig to be over 90 pc German. But instead it's the Polish this and the Polish that. The Poles apparently did everything except the ethnic cleansing of the entire German population after WWII, which is blamed on "the victorious Allies" alone. But, yes, nice pictures!

With this German character of Gdańsk, it is not such an easy matter. Gdańsk was founded by Poles in 997 and until 1308 belonged to the Kingdom of Poland. In 1308, the Teutonic Knights captured the city and murdered the Polish population. They brought swindlers from Germany and they built a brick medieval Gdańsk. In 1454, the German inhabitants of Gdańsk (as well as inhabitants of other Prussian cities) rebelled against the Teutonic Order and asked the King of Poland to include Prussia in the Kingdom of Poland. Until 1793, Gdańsk was a city belonging to Poland, inhabited by Germans, Dutch, Scots, Kashubs and Poles. In 1793, Prussia took Gdańsk and until 1945 Gdańsk was a German city. Since 1945, Gdańsk has been a Polish city. If you don't like that Gdansk is now a Polish city, then you should also worry that Trento is now Italian, not Austrian, and Strasbourg is a French city, not a German one. Besides, Turkish Istanbul is formerly Greek Constantinople and you won't change that either.
The video was well made , for a polish audience. To many things of the history was not mentioned or credit was not given where it was due. I am sure if such a video was made by a German filmmaker,some of the content and comments would be a little different. I feel sorry for our younger generations,that are fed this kind of material as to be the “ True “ history of Gdańsk or Danzig. It’s really to bad how much propaganda is still being used to hide the truth!

@@jeanvaljean7266 You seem very upset by the history. No Pole deported the Germans from the lands of the Third Reich - it was done by the Red Army. It was Stalin who decided what the world would look like after the war. Poles did not "take" anything. Germany simply lost another war and was held accountable for it.
