The problem is most black people live in an aspirational space . The question is " How or What can I do to acquire this supposed luxury item , that society has deemed to be a representation of " arriving " to a certain level in life . When we should actually be examining Why we think we need this and why we need to prove to each other that we've " arrived " ? Look at instagram . They practically shame people for being unable to acquire these luxurious items and then convince themselves that they're motivating you to come up . When in fact most of them are just shockingly insecure . Again , I have yet to see Warren Buffet rock a million dollars worth of jewelry around his neck . Another great interview ....

Sista Nicole you made some significant points about why collectively as Blacks we think needing expensive merchandise. In my opinion, it is the adverse of slavery and racism. Residing in this Western hemisphere compells we as Blacks and others to think that the White man ice is better. We are programmed and contioned to think labels, styles, etc make us because of the blatant disrespect and dehumanization in American particularly germane to Afro- American. It is a symbol of saying to the world you are going to look at me and respect me. I had an Ivory Coast African tell me " You Black American's act White." I couldn't understand it until I got older. Everything in Western culture is based on capitalism devoid of emptahy, compassion, humanity.
