Great video as always. I assume that this is made for expats planning to move here and who earn more than what most Tanzanians make. However, it’s definitely not the average cost of living. Most people in Dar do not make that amount of money per month let alone spend it on shopping, going out, rent etc. Most of the grocery shopping they do is in the markets and they spend significantly less than what was stated in the video for way more. The same applies for eating out and rent. It would have been much better if you had insisted that as much as it’s your average cost of living in Dar, it’s not for most people and mentioned like average incomes and all that so that they’d be a clear distinction.
Tanzania Dar es salaam it depend where you stay some place is too expensive like europe but if you go to simple city like sinza, ubungo, kifamboni, magomeni, kinondoni,is not expensive it place where people leave normal life but the place you stay it like for rich people is expensive there
Eat ugali sukuma wiki and fruit and fish.no kellogs cornflakes.or pgtips 😂and give that pombe up its ghali sana bwana.drink maji for health.and no going out only to beach or to hunt or fish or gym or calethetics on beach.. and only one girl a month for £5 quick job 😂
Thank you for your video. Living in a city in the west coast of Africa, I find life in Tanzania quite affordable. Sir, but what about the health system and security? Could you please provide us with this piece of information in your next video? Thank you in advance and may you take care.
I live in the UK and those prices in Tanzania were so expensive. I would never pay that much for food on some of the items but I hear what you were saying about not wanting to go to different places. £57 on the items you bought for just one person is a lot. That didn’t even include drinks, toiletries, snacks etc.
They are, and it's mostly because the people who shop there are well of financially. Alot of the food items are imported from the UK, US or South Africa that's why its expensive. If you were to go to a local market you'd probably spend a tenth of what you'd spend in that supermarket.
@@ArchitectRussell is the meat really so expensive? looking at numbeo stats beef is around 4$ per kg, same for chicken, but your prices are just like Germany high ?
Doctor's salary per month in tz is 1.5M after all deductions such as paye, insurances, loans etc they remain with 900k-1.2M 😅, I don't know what the government is thinking as they provide salaries to employees which are below the living cost 😂
Hello I was raised in Dar Es Salaam. These prices are accurate given you live near the peninsula (east coast). If you go west into the city prices drop significantly so does the quality of live however. I am able to rent a 2 bedroom house in Sinza for 150 USD a month and it's about 15 min from the coast. Love seeing slipway again, I remember being 11 and getting my first kiss on the bench at the end of the pier. If you know you know. Drink a few safari's for me CHEERS
Hi Russell Videos are great, very informative. I am from the UK also and planning on moving to zanzibar. I am currently on early stage on building but I am stuck looking for glass sliding doors/bi fold manufactures tanzania dar es salaam. Do you know or worked with any companies that you recommend? I am only building a villa.
Usually have to import stuff like that - I don’t really pay attention my time actually suppliers I’m more concerned with manufacturers. But I know sliding doors expensive - usually imported from China
@@ArchitectRussell thank you for replying. I have contacted a couple off firms in dar who claim to supply sliding doors but after 3 weeks of waiting for a quote I'm starring to think they jus BS. Your content is great BTW. 👍
@@shadrackdeogratius6760 you are 7 months late 🤣 I have container coming from China. Got them made there, companies in dar and znz wamenizungusha sana.
Don’t know what you are talking about - most of the stuff (if not all) I got was still local and unprocessed and fresh. It’s just quicker going to supermarket.
If you wanna live the western lives in Africa it could be expensive and that is exactly what he did. I’m from Tanzania I know you can get the same things he got in about a quarter of that price he paid.
Us local dont go to super market, we go to flee market and buy our things there and it is so cheap and you get somethings which are actually fresh or just loaded early in the market.
This is an amazing video honestly ... I've lived in Tanzania my whole life and honestly that's an accurate depiction of price when you live in those areas ... so what most guests from other countries do is when they come here they buy or build houses which actually start from as low as 30mill tshs and that eliminates all possible costs for a place of living ... and then to save money for supplies you hire a local that can move around and get you the veggies and meat and other food materials that are fresh and that allows you to personally get other canned and packaged items from the super market but fresh ones like veggies are way cheaper some places a 4 litre bucket of tomatoes can be sold for 4000 tshs which is quite a good deal so after hiring a local the local can work for sometime and leave or you can live with the local its actually a choice .... but with all that it means the cost of living is actually very low in comparison to the video but in other areas of Tanzania such as iringa it is less than daresalaam but there are only national parks and waterfalls and not many bars and clubs less urban but more relaxing ... anyways keep the videos coming this is amazing content.
Thanks a lot. Vegetables are pretty cheap anywhere wherever u go and you can’t really buy bulk because they go bad. Maybe I’ll buy local and freeze them 🤔. The difference in price is small for the amount of money u seems on them so I don’t really bother the effort. Meat on the other hand that costs more money really. I go to a local butcher nowadays. But cheaper meat is usually low quality. Generally u can buy cheaper but it’s a lot more time and effort so I don’t bother. I’ve started trying to get my housekeeper to get some stuff. But that’s an effort too! I even feel lazy and rude asking someone to get stuff for me. Honestly I don’t like it!
Thanks for sharing this....it's simple mathematics.... people just need to pay attention to the conversion table of their mathematics textbook...I worked 29 years in the United States before getting hurt on the job that put me out permanently and now disabled...I can't afford to live in the United States off my monthly social security payment..but I can overseas...it's 50% less expensive for me...
I think you expensive option lead you to that you for glossary you could use half of that actual every could be half or less of what you extravagant.. Sorry
All true. Then I go eat at mama's kitchen off sarengeti road in kisongo and its 1000 tzs, the amount of your change, for an entire meal! The locals live one way there and the tourists and ex-pats an entirely different one. Loved the video.
Hi @@ArchitectRussell I like the beans with a chapati and greens with some mchuzi sauce and avocado. I love Slipway, and agree with you about the food. Lots better are around, Masaki is a great place to live. We stayed across from George's. A good place for drinks is Capetown. I love the Indian food downtown. Happy to find your channel.
Let me see, how do I answer you? 🤔🤔🤔. I have been to Tanzania three times, I've just returned February 19th my recent visit. This guy lives like an expat in Dar es Salaam. The average Tanzanian don't live like that. His utility bill is over $200? He's nuts. This is not the cost of living in Dar es Salaam, that's his cost of living. I can visit a local market get everything he got at the supermarket for 50k tsh. Which is about $20
Some privileged expat I know the type . I think if you visit get Airbnb and go to local market to cook back home. I want to visit, I unusually stay in Cambodia and food there is amazing, I get an Airbnb and cook saving money and eating local food
sorry, you said, you dont pay a price of rent.. bcs you are employer and your company pay it .. I have rented a house in the suburbs, it has a large living room, kitchen, 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms with toilets. The water is free as it is from a local drilled source. I pay a monthly rent of 350,000 TSh, that's about 120 Pounds or about 140 USD in your conversion. If I were to live by your extremely expensive purchases, by the way I go to the local markets to buy basic groceries, to local street restaurants.. and I only need 7 USD a day and live well and healthy. So I don't have to earn at least TSh 5,000,000 a month.
Hi Martin, My husband and I are looking for an affordable home close to the price range you described. Do you have any suggestions for areas for us to look?
I ve been there 5 times since covid . the main problem are the hotels . when it is good it is 45€ minimum . and hard to find something at 20€ as south east asia . the service is long . in restaurant . but Nice country n people
I would say 100 bucks for hotel and another 100 on expensive so 200 per day minimum. Depends if you want to travel like a back packer could be cheaper ..
Tanzania is Cheap, the video is misleading, you shopped and ate at places designed for tourists , this is not how everyday local Tanzanian lives..... everything you paid is four to five times the amount local will pay
@@ArchitectRussell you absolutely not, but the video says cost of living Dar es salaam Tanzania, it should say cost of living for tourist or foreigners, most of the things you bought and places you went are not things local citizens would buy or regularly going
Hello, May I share an Old Testament Verse with you from Daniel 7:14 "And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a Kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should SERVE Him; his dominion is an Everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom shall not pass away, and His Kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." Also, can I share Isaiah 53:5 " But HE was WOUNDED For our TRANSGRESSIONS, he was BRUISED for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and with His STRIPES we are HEALED." God the Father loves you so much that He sent Holy Sinless Jesus (His Holy Son) to earth to be born of a virgin. Then, to grow up and die on a cross for our sins. He was in the tomb for 3 days, then Father God raised Holy and Sinless Jesus Christ (Y'shua) to Life! He appeared to people & went back to Heaven. We must receive Sinless Jesus sincerely to be God's child(John 1:12).After we get saved by grace through faith in Christ, if we truly love the Lord Jesus Christ, then we will obey Jesus(John 14:15). Mark 1:15 "And saying, the time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: Repent ye, and believe the gospel." Jesus said in John 14:15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments. "There's a real hell. It says in Revelation 21:8 "But for the cowardly, & unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, & immoral persons sorcerers & idolaters & all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire & brimstone..." Please sincerely receive Holy Jesus and put your true faith and trust in Him today and please repent. Will you have a Real encounter with Holy Lord Jesus (Y'shua is His Hebrew Name) and stay in a Genuine relationship with Him daily please?
I live in Mallorca, Spain and I cannot live on less than 2000€ per month. This is my cost of living in a tiny village and not a big city or a coastal town.
Thanks for sharing your experience of cost of living in Dar es Salaam, nice presentation, well done. I had heard from a colleague (whose husband is from there) that I could live over there for around £300 per month including everything such as rental flat, food, utility bills but your calculation is almost 3 times more than her. So I was thinking to live over there for a few months of winter to reduce the crazy utility bills in Europe however your video told me otherwise, so I may think about some other places such as India. Also it would be good to explain how long a British passport can stay there or whether we need a visa or not. Is it possible to rent a room from a local resident in order to reduce the cost of living? Is there any British or European banks over there and what is the best way of paying bills or currency exchange. Would you categorise the country as a safe place to live for a few months during the winter months? Thank you again
Of course like anywhere u can live much cheaper than this. It’s pretty safe just petty crime really. There not really British banks here any more but even if there was it’s still locally run.
great video mate, gave me an idea of how Tanzania looks like and the cost of living there. have an opportunity to work there in Dar Es Salam. how is there public transport like? or it is better to get Uber
@@ArchitectRussell African governments are mulling banning "foreign Vloggers" like you from entering their countries becoz you do more harm than good to the image of Africa.
The low fat milk is a bit of a scam, oat milk is less expensive in the uk, and oat milk is notoriously overpriced. Why didn't you go for something cheaper?
The amount of money you spent on the super market in Dar is quite expensive .Heare in Italy where i live with that amount of money, i can live for 3 weeks. As far as i can see its an expensive city. This is my opinion no offence.
That is if you really stay at apartments or condominiums. If you stay at low cost housing, it will be cheaper esp. if you eat at low cost restaurant or food stalls. Spending $700+ a month is still way more expensive... in my country, spending money like that is considered living in luxury. That amount of money is for people who live in 1st world countries. Like us in the third world, we will choose wisely because we don't earn as much.
