The Darche Eclipse 270° is the solidly built, heavy duty awning that provides reliable shade around the side of your vehicle.

In this video, our gear expert Ben gives us a full demonstration on how to set up and pack away the Darche Eclipse 270° Awning. He also gives us some excellent tips along the way, shows you how to secure and tension it with the strap, tells you why you shouldn’t leave it freestanding, demos how to set the poles and guy ropes up and how to distinguish the rain gutters from the guy points.

Hi Scott, the Gen 2 doesn't look like it will be available for another month or two, but this is all the information I have, sorry, things could be delayed given the current climate. It looks like the new version may have a different canvas and lightweight box tube frame, but I've not seen it to be able to provide any useful comments on this, sorry. ~ Ben

Definitely a better and bigger footprint than the 23Zero. It has an extra arm (6 arm total) at the back which provides better coverage. I am planning on getting one of these for my van fit out and need a bigger 270degree to cover my barn doors at the back

Sounds like your preference is for the Darche awning El Scruffo McScruffy. The extra arm at the rear won's impede the use of your barn doors and will give a bit of extra coverage at the rear. ~ Ben

Nice review guys, so looks very similar to the 23Zero, price pretty much the same, any clear leader out of the 2 ? or key differences ?

They are comparable in terms of quality, aussienscale, the main difference is that the 23Zero awning has one less rafter at the rear to allow for lift-up tailgates, but provides a little less shelter. ~ Ben

There is not a single awning I have seen that provides nil gap between the inside edge and the vehicle which would allow rain in. I hang tarps approx 30com across the roof racks for complete weather protection at the sides and rear of the vehicle. Can any awning owners confirm if rain gets in between the awning and the vehicle or not? Thanks.

I reckon this is largely dependent on how it is setup and the direction of the prevailing weather, Just Mike. Some awnings do come with a flap that can be inserted into a sail track on the back edge to close in the gap, essentially doing what you have described above, but this still requires some customization and/or improvisation. To be honest though, if the rain is coming in sideways enough to allow a lot of water through, then this gap is probably the least of your problems. ~ Ben

I don't get rain coming if you can mount awning down a bit and closer to body of the vehicle but not always possible

The Darche colours are orange, black and khaki @JDAC, so their products tend to stay with those. ~ Lauren

Are these ment to Creek when opening ?

I'm not sure they are meant to but they do tend to make a few creaks as you fold the arms out, it's just the hinges. ~ Ben

@@SnowysOutdoors yeah when I open the 4 arms it makes a creaking sound for a bit. Unless i never noticed it till now. Its only 2 weeks old

Hey mate i have the same awning love it. But my bag seems to leak with i get a heaps of heavy rain so i end up with a wet awning inside the bag i was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem if so how do you fix it

Same here , very annoying. I do like the awning but sort of wished l had seen the 30 second awning . I think it has it just over it in setup and pack up..

We get the occasional problem here, Glenn, but it isn't isolated to one particular brand and it's a very small percentage of the awnings that we've sold. If you feel it's a manufacturing fault then I'd suggest you get in touch with the place you purchased your awning at. There isn't a lot of difference, Michael. Slight differences in the fabrics and weights, both brands will boast the benefits of their choices here. The main difference is the extra pole that is used by Darche at the rear, which may make it slightly sturdier but can get in the way for cars with a lift-up tailgate. I honestly couldn't recommend one over the other though and would suggest that you either go with the brand you prefer or the price tag that suits your budget. ~ Ben

I'd say in even very light wind, this thing is not easy or even possible to setup with one person. on most days. I used to have a foxwing, and i could peg it as i went by myself in considerable wind.

We've had a fair bit of feedback on this one from solo 4WDers and its all positive. There would definitely be considerations to make depending on weather conditions, but its for sure achievable! ~ Lauren

I'm not sure what you are referring to sorry, mavallarino. If you think of this as a (less than perfect) circle with the centre point being roughly the middle of the length of the setup awning, it would cover 270 degrees of the circle. ~ Ben
