It's been 9 years since this was first aired, so now, with the same actress and supporting cast, this would be the 20 year High School reunion movie, and I am so here for this. Please, please make this movie.

Because Daria was based on intelligent satire, which could now be demonized as dangerous thought, and we can't have that. Her satire would have to be completely political and feminist. There would be no point for it to be on Netflix unless it's to push an agenda. Every other show is like that, no point in adding another.

Didn't you notice her mom and her other siblings though? Jane and Trent just have dark hair. Plenty of white people have dark hair, like Catherine Zeta Jones... Although, the inspiration for Trent is partially based on Dave Navarro, they call their house Casa Lane, and their other family members are always going to Latin America, so it's possible they're part Latino.
@Apollo Macgregor Seriously. I just went through the series and Quin does admit that Daria's her sister. Daria's jacket has a zipper, not buttons like here. Kevin wasn't class of 2002 since he didn't graduate. And I can't imagine Trent getting fat since you almost never see him eat anything and he rarely has money (I also figure he has that cough because he spends his money on cigs when he's not mooching them from someone).
Daria was the only one who would fit in a proper film version. Honestly, I would prefer the original writers and creators to be involved in the film. Otherwise it would suck. I would love a new Daria series based on her as an adult. In real life, she would be 40. They are doing a series on Jodie but Daria is far more interesting. They need the original cast as well.

Jodie Landon was the Valedictorian. Daria's graduation speech was for a different award. She won the Diane Fossey Award "for dazzling academic achievement in the face of near total misanthropy". This was great casting, but you owe Jodie an apology!

Not an opinion friend, list some great television cartoons off the top of your head which had their animations completely substituted with real life casts on the big screen. As a challenge, from that list, name one that became a hit.
Every comment about the shitty casting is exactly what makes this such a sick sad world; this trailer was pretty much perfect. Who cares who plays the characters, the spirit of the show was still there. A lot of thought and attention was given to this trailer. And Aubrey Plaza was born to play this role. I agree with sawrig: in today's world Daria, or a character like Daria, who sees through this materialistic world and questions it, is more important than ever. I mean, what is more proof than the fact that while MTV once aired such a cynical viewpoint of society, it would now never touch a show like this with a 100 metre pole these days? Instead it chooses to air trash tv and commercial hits. What has happened to the alternative in society? Now we label it "Hipster" and deride it---with much merit, granted---but still where is that viewpoint in the mass media? It's something that is drastically needed.
Collegehumor pretty hit or miss. Like college itself, parties thrown to attract very different sensibilities..?! I wouldn't know, clearly, crying in the janitor's closet was as close as I got in this life... But, this is a hit, in my eyes.
There are a few errors to point out in this trailer: Jodi, Upchuck, Mac and the fashion club were all missing Jodi was actually the valedictorian, not Daria Quinn was a soft more when Daria graduated so she shouldn't be planning the reunion Kevin was left back so this wouldn't be his reunion either The acting was a bit stale in my opinion and they could've found people who looked more like the original cast. ESPECIALLY TRENT Overall though a Daria movie would be a great idea, if had they got their facts right and stayed true to the original. But I guess we can always hope for a 20 year reunion right?
Upchuck and Mac were there, but not really relevant. They had a second of screen time, (if even,) and no lines. Quinn was a sophomore* (I'm sorry but I have to.) The rest I can agree with :)

When Daria taught her class, the episode ended with her telling Sandy that it was natural that she acted "sisterly" towards Daria because, after all, Daria was her sister. And then the rest of the class barely reacted because they already knew.
+Vincent Muzic my complaint with this is that they've all changed exactly ZERO since the last ep, or that's what this tried to show. maybe it's just me but i think that daria's snark would have grown, evolved, and matured into an even more amazing weapon throughout college and beyond, so this is a serious letdown in that regard. Jane made perfect sense, but she was given just a few seconds of screen time so meh. Quinn was fucking perfect, though as other people have pointed out, she wouldn't actually be involved in the planning. egging daria into going sure but not planning it.

This movie would be hella depressing. I like to imagine Daria grew up to be happy, not stuck in a preptual cycle of cycnical depression. Same goes for all the characters. instead of trying to see how they evolved out of their high school personalities, this movie would just have them stuck eternally as they were. Quinn was evolving into a smart, intersting person. Daria was growing to see the world might be worth accepting and investigating sometimes. Mr and Mrs Morgendorfer were getting different colorings than "always stressed out and controlling", etc. please, never make this movie or, if you do, take those characters out of their high school rut.
I completely agree. Did they even see the last episode? Quinn and Daria had a much better understanding relationship of each other. They both would have changed significantly during college. I highly doubt she would have come back this cynical.
Well, it is a fake trailer, but it seems it got a fair share of attention nevertheless, so you can't completely rule out the possibility of something like this happening, in which case it would be better to point out that while this concept looks intruigueing, its character development took a wrong turn somewhere.
Yeah. There's a movie like that in my country. There was this old movie about a bunch of highschoolers on a ski trip. Then they made a "25 years later" sequel. Just a bunch of middle-aged people desperately trying to hide how broken and burned out they are by trying to be their former cool teenage selves again. Needless to say, inept adolescent sex jokes don't work very well when you're past 30... Ultimately, the movie tried to be a comedy or at least a serious drama if you discard the jokes as frustration from adult life, but failed at both. It's just sad.
Having been basically Daria in high school i can tell you she, probably, would have grown up to be MORE cynical. Like myself. Life doesn't get easier after high school and Daria paid attention. Paying attention to this world will depress even the biggest optimist.
It would be super Hilarious if adult Beavis & Butthead were both totally normal and successful adults and Daria would just be so pissed & envious they were able to change and have a good life while she stayed mostly the same.
The ending of Is It College Yet? implies that she and Jane came out of their shells and became morning TV presenters. As much as I want to say it was a joke, too many of the other character futures displayed in those credits were too realistic :P
The guy Matthew Lillard who played the live action Shaggy from Scooby Doo would probably make a good live action Trent since the cartoon Trent look similar to Shaggy both being lanky

Everybody but Daria’s role is so good. I feel like itd be impossible to capture Daria as a live action movie because she is SO emotionless in her face and voice that no actor would be able to mask their emotions that well
DoomedTVN I haven't seen the video yet, so I can't comment on it, but I do know that sometimes College Humor completely misses when it comes to impressions. Granted, I think Aubrey Plaza would make the perfect actress for Daria, but I can still see how it's possible this could go wrong. I mean, their Magic School Bus video was popular because it was about anti-vaccinations, but Ms. Frizzle behaved NOTHING like Ms. Frizzle - not even in a 'different because it's a parody' sort of way.

truth be told Daria would be a total different person from high to now. Even comparing 1 season to the last season her character changed and also the last episode showed that she was in college and happy and even have a new boyfriend. She will most likely grow up to be kind of like her aunt.

Also they left out the real valedictorian and her boyfriend, Jodie and Mack. Best this doesnt become a movie lol just watch Ghost World and read the graphic novel
This actually would be a good idea using Aubrey Plaza and no one else in the trailer, obviously. I mean I've seen every episode of Daria so much I have them all memorized, and I just couldn't picture Quinn being anything like that girl, or Brittany, Tom, Trent, etc. I'd rather see Kat Dennings as Jane, Ezra Miller as Trent, and Molly C. Quinn as Quinn (haha! But really, she's perfect). Then I'd be down for a Kickstarter on this!
Daria was definitely my favorite show when I was in middle school. It was a show that really spoke to me and got me through the lowest point in my life in middle-school. You definitely did a good job capturing the characters and the jokes this show's known for. Kudos.

I wish this was real. I'll be 26 next month and I'm getting my first dose of nostalgia here. I was a HUGE fan of Daria and I think that she is just what America needs to help us fight the culture wars. Imagine what Daria and Jane would have to say to and about the Mileys and Kardashians of the world. I think Daria should be remade as a live action TV show. They don't even need new scripts, just use the ones from the animated version, believe me they're as relevant today as they were 15 years ago, and better written than the majority of TV shows on now. The sad truth is that the youth of today is just a more horrible version of my generation (though technically since I was born in '87, I'm a Millenial too, at the older end). I guess the Kevins and Brittanys won....for now.

Andrew Harland You're right that the cartoon style series' with real life casts always make ya want to grab two pencils play Oedipus with your eyes. Example: Avatar The Last Airbender. However, replacing the cartoon style with something else is fucked up, as it pretty much either A) captures the life at the average public high school, which is boring and unoriginal or B) drastically alters the series' reoccurring theme of 'shit life in the eyes of "that one girl in class whose smart af but has no heart nor self-esteem"'.
Ti Ng She does have self-esteem, though. Daria prides herself with morals and principles at almost every point in the story. Daria is portrayed as 'strong'. She "has a heart", in that she decides to 'actively work to make people dislike me so that I don't feel bad when they do.'

nathansvlog Theater release. I also don't want to see a 'reboot', they rarely ever turn out well, and with a live action or animation it just would be a reboot. If the creators want to do another animated show, and I mean the original creators, I'd give it a chance though.
Ah ok my bad. I agree with you about the reboot. I think a big part of the show's charm was the 1990s cynicism and that the characters were all a part of the "MTV generation". Who knows, maybe we'll see something from the creators again, I'd love to see what other ideas they could come up with
