I had an unhealthy balance. It began to cause my own death. I searched for meaning; I thought I could amplify her to make myself feel better, but there was no healing. I lifted my eyes (mwen leve jem anle) on my hardest days, because I knew I had to enter deeper waters. It was only there I could taste the divine. Something real. But being in these waters showed me life is an endless cycle. An undoing and redoing of the human fabric. It was here I had to make a choice. I saw the fine line. That in life, we have to make use of every moment and take ownership of our choices, our mistakes and triumphs. Because it all ends when you do. Everything. So this life I live, must be lived well. Not to their standards, but to each his own. In the end, live.
This project (Dark Continent), an ode to my native land, is one I cherish deeply. Africa before it was fully explored and known was called this because of its mystery. No one understood it, its vastness it's being. This album is much the same. It was written during the Pandemic, which I would call a Dark Continent of the mind. No one knew when it would end, who would live, who would die. It was complete chaos. All we could do was hope each day that the next day would be the end of it. I Wrote this project during this time as I explored life's complexity, my own longevity and darkness of the mind and heart, relationships, love, anger at God and religion. But in the end it all is up to you, I think personally this whole project is an exploration into feelings unknown, and at the end of it all, I hope to find meaning. Something tangible.
