Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths Conclusion (Comics Explained) 

I should have said this earlier but wasn’t sure how it’d play out BUT finally Nightwing gets respect during a Crisis event. DC, specifically Geoff Johns and Dan DiDio, were always trying to kill him without showing how awesome he is!

I'm old and disillusioned. Every time I see another contrived story arc, my eyes roll. But Rob has an infectious excitement. And many times I've wondered what modern comics has done to deserve such an effort. So while you may see a callback to Nightwing's roots in this story, I think some of us probably see parallels to a real life guy. Whose tireless joy at sharing these stories can soften the most stubborn of golden age fans. So thanks for still being around, Rob.

Thanks for this. I kinda zoned out on the Dark Crisis after a while. Dick Grayson deserves the props that he's been getting and I'm looking forward to how his story unfolds in the future. I agree that Slade's behavior was very out of character. But the simultaneous outer conflict with Black Adam and inner conflict with Nightwing was interesting storytelling. The reason this whole multiverse thing persists, aside from the marketing gimmickry, is that it provides a convenient form factor for the writers to leverage the popularity of the established characters without being bound to events of the past and play with ideas that would never happen in the main continuity. Which can be fun sometimes, for example DCeased and Injustice. The problem is when it happens all the time, its too taxing on the reader. Aside from the difficulty of being able to follow all the different story arcs, everyone has to relearn all the characters and their connections with each other rather than relying on what you already know. And the reader cannot rely on any newly learned information because in the next universe it changes again. I think a better approach would be if they provided more onboarding opportunities in the established titles. As a kid I could just buy whatever and pickup the gist of the character and cast of characters. But it feels harder to do that now ... I don't know if its because one tends to be more naive as a kid regarding what to read or if there is too much history and continuity now. I think if they mixed and matched epic arcs with some smaller self contained arcs, people would have more jumping on points to the various titles. And they are still free to introduce new characters with the personalities, abilities, and histories the writers want to tell the story they want to tell. That is the better way to transition on to the new generation, rather than restarting characters as young versions again. And over time some of those characters will establish themselves to take the baton from the Dick Graysons.

I can't remember exactly where I seen it, but I remember someone a creator saying that dick Grayson's superpower is that he's so lovable and well respected that anybody will come together for him. Kind of like Captain America. There's a couple of examples and comics where he's rallied everybody up.

Hopefully what this means is that DC is going to follow the Robin/Nightwing model of progression for heroes. They need to have different names than their predecessor, specifically looking at you Jonathan Kent.

And they never needed another Crisis again…

Hahaha at the end he’s like the Justice league have disbanded for now, but that’s ridiculous because if a world ending threat landed right that second, they most definitely would be a team.

I've been racking my brain for years about this. I'm not a regular comic reader. At least current issues. I read a lot of graphic novels though. Years ago I read a DC graphic novel that I can't remember the entire story. But what stood out was police and a few superheroes were searching this seemingly abandoned facility. Then they find a hatch in the floor and open it. At first you see nothing. Then you see a hand. Then the line "IT'S SOLOMON GRUNDY!!!" . Then the police, even the superheroes that were there ran for their lives. Ring any bells? Like title? Issue? I know it's a long shot, but I gotta try. This is years I've spent trying to remember. Thanks.

I'm glad Justice League Incarnate is back. Also Dr. Light having a moment to shine in a crisis again is nice and BA giving his powers to protect the heroes from The Darkness is awesome. I just wish it was longer

Just finished this book awhile ago. I enjoyed the hell outta this story.

As someone who greatly enjoyed the Teen Titans cartoon back in the day, having one of the central parts of the final battle essentially be between Robin (albeit Dick Grayson instead of Tim Drake) and Slade makes me giddy.

The issue is that characters like Jonathan Kent are explicitly stepping into their predecessors role. Jonathan can't specifically even uses the same name, as long as DC calls him Superman he's not going to be accepted. The Dick Grayson and the other Robins always get accepted is because they get their own unique name.

Haven't read anything in a while, but plan to get back into the Superman titles with their latest revamp. My question watching this...where was Dove? She was show to be able to disperse Black Lanterns with what was presumably Source Light. Seems like she'd have come in handy.

Where was Kismet in all of this? DC's version of Eternity. The one responsible for the original Strange Visitor Superman that you can never find if you Google him. The original Strange Visitor Superman was a blue skinned Superman assumably with big time power due to being powered by the Strange Visitor aka Kismet in the body of Superman's friend Sharon. Try Googling him. He won't come up. Only one that comes up is the Strange Visitor Superman that was from some other comic.

Rob, man, you gotta cover the warworld saga by PKJ, with the work he is doing in Action Comics. It is pretty amazing and is possibly shaping up to be the greatest superman story ever told.

It is nice to see Dr Light (Sexy Asian ver.) Actually doing stuff again. Considering she actually saved the day in the *original* Crisis on Infinite Earths too. It just kinda sucks she essentially does nothing but show up to save the day during a major cosmic crisis. And then just kinda fucks off to do street level stuff until she needs to become stronger than everyone else combined again. She's the Jean Grey of all of DC except with even *more* potential power. But hopefully we can see her more often.

The art was amazing!! I never understood why DC tried to eliminate it's multiverse in the first place and then took so long run bring it back. I hope DC editorial gets it together

A better question is why Pariah wasnt crushed like an ant when going against Doctor Light. She has full access to the source power, which should be roughly equivalent to the actual Great Darkness power. She struggled with Pariah, even though she had 100% of her power, and he was only using 1% of his.

Looks like primordial evil and the end of the multiverse was defeated by the power of friendship to me.

With the wider multiverse restored again, they could, and should, make Shaggy the Justice League Incarnate's most powerful member.

DC is finally getting it right. If they mail WildCATS they’ll almost have all of the best aspects of the botched new 52 drop. Sideways, Damage & those other new creations were great ideas that were sidelined too early. Legacy characters like Blue Beetle have trouble sticking nowadays.

Nightwing over EVERYTHING

Like a deck of cards in the shuffle someone gets to play up both sides at the top; Slade and Dick have gotten theirs. I guess this convoluted story was less disagreeable than the event before this well; two spaces over to Perpetua, the Batman who Laughs opposite Wonder Women, that darted into Darkseid and the Great Darkness a tiny function of it. Personally, I think DC wanted to pick two humans not aliens or gods; but down to earth rivals who exemplify a part of two very broad spectrums we can reconcile with.

Jesus, DC can’t go 5 minutes without trying to put Deathstroke over.

You mention that Earth 2 Superman is now able to make a return but wasn't Earth 2 overrun by Darksied army or is DC completely ignoring what happened and sweeping it under the rug.

This whole storyline has kinda bugged me, and think I now understand why. DC keeps changing their cosmology introducing more and more cosmic power creep. Darkseid is and always has been the abstracta of ultimate evil. He is the hole in the shape of God. The omega. They never needed a Perpetua, or a Great Darkness. Even the Antimonitor was a bit much in the grand scheme of things. They've had Darkseid this whole time, but instead of using him to tell great stories, they keep trying to reinvent the wheel, only to retcon it from existence a couple years later. Sometimes not even that long.
