Dark Lane has been immortalised with a street name in Malinslee called Dark Lane Drive. I moved to Telford in 1978 lived on Malinslee now in Aqueduct. Love the old pictures and history before Telford
Thank you for this. My Dad’s family were from Dark Lane and Stirchley (the Tart and Withington families) and we have Goughs in the family too. It’s a shame that Dark Lane was completely obliterated. I too have the book (I’m in it in a family photo as a child)
The Chapel and row of terraced houses known as "Bottom Row" was where Duffryn and Dunsheath, Hollinswood are now. The landscape has changed but Dale Acre Way runs a similar route to the original Dark Lane.
I was just 10 when Dark Lane was demolished. My mom used to take my older brother and me to visit Grandad and Gran on the old Coalport Dogger train before Beeching got rid of it. This certainly brings back memories.
lovely to see I used to go shooting at the range there and went with dad many times to get torch batteries from a man who worked in the steel mills wife who worked at the ever ready but sad its all gone now replaced by concrete
Great footage! Where did it come from originally? The male featured at 4:01 is my husband's great grand father Edwin Gough. Can anyone name any of the others? There is also a fabulous book on Dark Lane which provides lots of information and photographs.
Trevor......was dark lane village now dark lane drive Malinslee, as it's just strange how dark lane and Malinslee post office in same footage? Also the train you talk of that's the nee footpath isn't it that leads from town park down to madeley?
Will someone tell me where Dark Lane actually was, I always thought it was Hinckshay Road, the road that goes to the town park but is stopped by a gate, by a car park before you can get to the town park.
