Today we’re taking a look at the Dark Rock Pro 5 and the Dark Rock Elite courtesy of be quiet! These are the latest in the Dark Rock 5 series of coolers for 2023 and they are some of the most massive coolers I have worked with to date. They are both visually an upgrade over the Dark Rock 4 series just at first glance. The Dark Rock 5 Pro is geared towards cooling down hotter overclocked CPUs but with some focus on remaining silent and the Dark Rock Elite is largely similar but the Elite model is just a little bit bigger, more material, a toucher louder, and of course, has that ARGB goodness. I’ll be testing these heatsinks on my Ryzen 7700X today but we’ll get to the temperatures in a little bit but spoiler, both of these coolers work really well if you have the space to fit them. The Dark Rock 5 Pro cooler comes in at 145mm long, 136mm wide, and 168mm tall weighing about 2.84lbs. The dark Rock 5 Pro model is rated by be quiet for 270w TDP worth of cooling between its massive cold plate, fins, and dual fan setup and it does this while staying relatively quiet at 8.9dba for 50% speed, 16.3dba at 75% speed, and 23.3dba at 100% speed. The Dark Rock Elite has the same physical dimensions but actually weighs just a little bit more at 2.95lbs which in part is giving it a slight edge in cooling. Be quiet rates the Elite model at 280w TDP worth of cooling capability. The sound output is slightly higher on the Elite but it's honestly still very tame on paper and in my testing, 11dba at 50%, 19.5dba at 75% and 25.8dba at 100%. The Elite model does afford you some visual benefits with the ARGB square on the top cover. It’s a mild RGB implementation but I like it, nothing too over the top, makes sense if you have a be quiet FX case as well like I do here. Both the Pro and the Elites have similar cold plates, heat pipe designs, and they're both dual fan towers. The Pro model has a 135mm center fan like the Elite but the rear fan on the Pro is 120mm whereas the Elite rear fan is 135mm.

Thanks for the video! I am thinking of getting the Elite for my 7800x3d

Glad to help out. In terms of air-cooling, this is a solid choice for the 7800x3d. Just be sure to double check the supported cooler height of your case. Is this a new build? What GPU did you end up going with?

I dared to take the liberty to ask you something not related with your video. Please, tell me, are you satisfied with ASRock X670E PG Lightning? I planned to buy that motherboard.
@STS
@STS Месяц назад
Hi, I think the Asrock X670e PG lightning is a great budget X670E motherboard. I use it with my Ryzen 7700X as my standard Ryzen AM5 test bench. This motherboard will not allow for super high memory overclocks, that's really the only criticism I have of it. Since this is a budget motherboard though, I don't really view that as being a problem. Right now I have a 32gb kit of G.Skill DDR5-6000CL30 running no issues. What CPU and memory did you plan on going with?

@@STS Many thanks for your answer. I was worried by some complaints about stability of the motherboard. My plan is to go for Ryzen 9 7900x and unexpensive 2x32 GB Kingston Fury 5600 MT/s CL36 (nothing fancy).

@@clausion I have recently build am5 platform with Asrock x670E Steel Legend +7800x3d+ ADATA XPG LANCER BLADE 64gb 2x32 6000mhz cl 30. I have my old cooler Dark Rock 4 pro wich is doing wonders..40C idle - gaming around 60C. Case is be quiet 802 with 7 x140mm be quiet fans. 7800x3d will work just fine with a cheaper cooler like Thermalright or Deepcool , around 30- 40-50 usd.- plenty youtube reviews In conclusion, i am very pleased with Asrock mobo x670e chipset. Works perfect, stable and boot time is normal..like 5-10 sec in win. First boot was around 3-4 min. I have latest bios. For me it is hard to upgrade from drk4pro to dr5k pro or elite, not worth the money only for the easy instalation upgrade and a few -C. So yeah, ASrock it'a a worthy choice, money wise.

I have Dark Rock 4. Should I change to Dark Rock 5 Pro before buying Ryzen 7 5800X3D? Or Rock 4 will handle this well?
@STS
@STS 22 дня назад
Hi! The Dark Rock 4 will definitely handle a Ryzen 5800x3d. A DR5 would probably shave a couple of degrees C off the max temps but tbh I don't think it's worth the cost difference since you have the dark Rock 4 already. If you didn't have the dr4, definitely would go for the DR5 unless the discount on the DR4 was significant. What CPU did you have now?

@@STS Ryzen 5 5600. It's very easy to cool. It's not going more than 60 Celsius.
