Yeah, i'm doing my first playthrough of DS2 Scholar right now, and i too was hella confused when i got to this part. I thought it was another one of those very funny troll moments Scholar added. But a bit later, i realized you can use this as... a shortcut from the bonfire, if you bother to keep it open. It's a pretty shitty shortcut, to be honest, you'll roll of a cliff more times than you'll be able to properly utilize it. I found the normal path to be better. Overall, i'd say for the most part DS2 has some pretty good level design, on par and sometimes exceeding DS1's. Enemy placement in Scholar sucks ass though. It's not as bad as reviewers made it out to be, but it does at times feel like they just added a random guy where there wasn't any before. The original PS3 version is much better at this
@@callofdarksouls Can't say i agree with you on it, as i'm having a lot of fun with it. Though yeah, it has... quite a few flaws. The one that sticks out to me the most is the boss design. The bosses in DS2 are quite bland. A lot of them have very simple movesets that don't require much practice to get the hang of. The ones that gave me the most shit usually has some cheap bs instead of good challenge. Nothing screams good boss design quite like copy-pasting the same guy over and over 3 times
I had a tons of fun with ds2, but there is too much stuff that annoys me, like having a tons of enemies whit crazy aggro, makes runbacks absurdly dumb, and is not like you get superstrong pretty quickly like DS1 in terms of killing mobs, those mobs can still be a threat, hell there are mobs more dangerous than the boss in the same area. I personally think is too long (with the dlc) and I lost my savefile, I was at that dragon valley or whatever, I did a lot of the dlc too, tons of hours, I wouldn't go through all that shit again, but everybody should try it, bc, is still better than most games I've ever played.
@@callofdarksouls I like the lore more, the system where enemies eventually dispawn is fun. I like the fact you have to use crowd strats, the hitboxes are actually way better than DS1, the atmosphere is way better than the other two games, healing gems are a blessing and also the pure troll energy some of the level design gives like how there are only about 3 mimics I have ever encountered in the playthrough, making me paranoid the entire game but just when I forgot about me another one got me
