Resin was most commonly used as a strong adhesive in medieval times. It is a thermoset glue, meaning it has to be boiled. It's not difficult to put two and two together that what the villagers used was a cauldron or two of _boiling_ resin. Gough is blind and cannot take off his helmet *_because it's fused to his destroyed eyes and face._* Edit: On top of Gough being one of the four legendary knights of Gwyn--a demigod warrior and tactician skillful enough to have commanded scores of greatarchers and dragonslayers in times of war and still able to effortlessly shoot down a dragon blind after god knows how long he's been literally gathering dust while woodcarving. "Not blind just too stupid to take of his helmet" *_my ass._*
He's retired for ages He's blind He had to feel around for his bow He just knew kalameet was gonna show up He perfectly aims it It pierces through the wing and his chest Making him unable to fly An then he's just like yeah sure good shot go get em What a legend my fav of the 4
It’s the hearing. He has spent too long in blindness to sharpen his ears, he can see the world without his eyes. He has to feel the bow because it created no sound
@@redacted144 Nahh i doubt he is really blind like look at his helm it has but one tiny hole if he would maybe take them off he would propably see again.
Gough: “Ahh Dragon slaying, Knighthoods highest calling” Every time I fight Darkeater Midir, I remember this line, and it makes the fight feel SO much more epic.
The thing about Dark Souls that I love is how it has so much depth both in its epic things as well as in its smallest ones. Like how this blind giant offers you his last act of greatness for an equally great act (the slaying of Artorius) and how he mentions the blacksmith, where you can find Gough's ring, implying that Gough either gave it to him or the blacksmith found it and kept it as a memento.
Goes down ladder "Alright time to kill Kalamee-" Finds a shriveled up twitching Kalameet laying on it's back looking like a looney tune when the get scorched
***** and you know what it's even more great? if you are invisible and doesn't make any sound he will start to search you, only when you will produce a sound he will attack you.
+Major Lag He's not actually blind, villagers poured tree resin into the eye holes on his helm, because they had a dislike of giants it appears. It also seems like he still wears it out of his respect for Gwyn or the Giant Blacksmith.
+C48813 eh... doesn't really change the fact that he shot kalameet, he had to feel around for his bow, and was facing a different way :P Interesting lore fact tho, thank you for telling me that, Gough is one of my favorite characters, and was because he shot the dragon without seeing it.
I just saw this in the game, it was fucking incredible. They gave him superb lines of dialogue, and that animation was amazing. Sick game, I thought Artorias was badass, but this..wow :D
Every knight of Gwyn was an exceptional warrior in their own right. Gough is no exception. Even thouh suffering prejudice and getting blinded by treacherous tricksters, he still proved his value and why he was one of Gwyn's trusted knights.
God damn, Gough hasn't used his bow in so long that a fucking rainfall of dust came off of if when he pulled back the arrow. btw, we need to see Ornsteins dragonslaying capabilities so we can compare these too.
Jack of Blades what he says is really gold to. if i remember he says something like 'typical humans etc". and after he says that i immediately feel awful because he's right. here is this old retired, legendary dragon slayer archer sitting down carving, carvings, wearing a helmet which eye holes are filled with tree resin from asshole villagers, who is nothing but warm and friendly to you, offers to take down kalemeet's flying ability, does so, wishes you good luck in the fight against him, gives you his bow when you return upon defeating kalameet, and bids you farewell, and along comes me the asshole who decides to attack him, kill him then steal his stuff.
+ISetYourFaceOnFire Why would you kill him? You get his greatbow as a gift after killing kalameet and his gigantic armour looks stupid on your human character
Such a Tsundere, He mentioned that even Anor Londo didn't dared to challenge Kalameet(no wonder since Gwyn as weak as shit) but shot him down immediately just cause you asked him nicely.
1:51 And that was after decades of retirement... Blind... That's why i love this game, even if i get so pissed off constantly failing- moments like this give me a little heartflutter of epicness that makes it worth it :3
i cant agree to that. theyre set in different timelines and universes with completely different twists. theyre ONLY the same in that theyre both 3rd person. i cant compare what isnt of the same genre
Nathan Vogelzang you can speaking on epic story telling alone. The Last of Us constantly gets commended on its story and how it's told and presented. It doesn't even come close to the way dark souls does it.
Fvlse King thats my point really, they do it both differently, it all comes to preference and thats completely fine. on a side note. good or bad are both nothing more then points perspective of how this person views it, while it is differently viewed by another. this being said, i'd say we are both in the right AND the wrong. you compared stories from different ways of being told, and i misunderstood at 1st that you simply meant just that. my apologies:) but yea dark souls did have a very unique way to tell a story and did immensly well, while i do feel that uncharted and last of us did a very good job to:)
@Mister Mister most GTA titles after San Andreas were kinda boring recycled content and stereotypes from movies and other games and literature. To be fair, a lot of modern titles are. What TV I like about Dark Souls is how it tells a story with a few references and stereotypes, but presents them in an original, often challenging and even emotional way. A lot of modern games stopped doing that, and I know that Dark Souls is not the first or only title to do so.
Him saying he's blind can be taken in so many different ways. More than likely he KNOWS that his helmet has been filled with pine resin, but he doesn't remove it because of his pride and honor.
Gough probably the friendliest character in dark sould, even being a knight he's not conceited towards the player, and always up for a talk, always chill and has no ambition like rest, only the woodwork remains and he's happy with it
@@Spectrik never got thanked for commenting lol. Also I just got to when gough shoots kalameet down and it became my favorite cut scene ever. And also yeah, sad for Kobe and this comment.
Tomas .A I don’t get replied to often and don’t make much content so I’m not recognized or anything on RU-vid usually also I’m glad you appear to be loving dark souls (congrats on beating Artorias he’s a toughie) and yes it’s tragic what happened to kobe
So according to Gough Kalameet was such a dangerous enemy that Anor Londo would never provoke it. Then he precedes to shoot it down after you would have previously struggled against Ornstein, Artorias and even Ciaran (she's sort of a tank) when three of those four were no longer in their prime. Those four would have destroyed Kalameet.
More likely because at that time they were well known, and kalameet would have done a lot of collateral to oolacile in response. Note that he got used to ignoring Gough over the years, so the shot caught him by surprise.
@@rakshithanand8262 Not just Oolacile, a good chunk of Anor Londo would become blackened rock and ash. Remember dragons are both smart and vindictive in most stories, and Kalameet likely knows where Anor Londo is and what their soldiers look like from other ancient dragons. If Kalameet really wanted to, Anor Londo would look much more differently than it does now from what the lore is implying. I think Kalameet never fought in the war because he had a different thought process than the other dragons, just like Seath. Maybe Kalameet felt no kinship with other dragons, or knew just how dangerous Gwyn's knights were. Either ways his neutrality and dreaded reputation made him the last Ancient Dragon alive.
Every time I see Gough pull back on that bow, I'm reminded of that scene from the end of Disney's Hercules movie where Zeus shouts "Watch your old man work!"
He knows exactly which direction to turn before even listening, AND he knows where the only broken section is in the ring of columns He mustve fucked up at least 1 shot in the past
I was in high school when i first played Dark Souls, like 2012 "Thou will understand some day. At thy twilight... old thoughts return... in great waves of nostalgia." Now I see.
Just beat Kalameet in the remaster last night. Such a damn good cutscene and set up for the boss. I especially love how clear it is that Gough hasn't moved in ages, so sawdust just floods off him as he gets up.
he's not blind the resin only blinded him like a blindfold would ... the helmet description just says the eye holes are covered up nothing more ... if he took it off he would see ... even with all his wisdom, he still was tricked
I can't understand that Kalameet is known for "The most dangerous ancient dragon, even Anor Londo couldn't handle it." and that doesn't make any sense. I mean, Hawkeye Gough was one of Anor Londo dragonslayer knightage wasn't he?
Elin la Verde well, he mentions for every dragon they lost 3 score of knights. sixty knights per 1 dragon is a steep price. sure, gwyn, nito, the witch and seathe may have taken down most of the dragons, but i think at this point nito has retired already, the witch has turned into a demon, and seathe has gone into his study. leaving only gwyn and his knights. considering kalameet keeps to himself around this area and has not assaulted anor londo, i believe anor londo has decided that its efforts are better spent elsewhere. gough does not have 59 other knights to attempt to slay Kalameet, he only has an insane artorias living in the basement, a grieving ciaran who is an assassin and no dragonslayer... and you.
By far my fav NPC ( not the most beloved , that spot is for sunbro). I feel proud i didnt kill any Gwyns knights ( except for one dragonslayer and his fat buddy). Truth is Gough and Cyaran are nothing like you would expect from legendary knights that kill dragons. They are not prideful nor arrogant or agressive. Cyaran is all about praying for his old friend and Gough is just making some woodwork...somethin so unheroic to the most heroic of characters...both remembering Artorias who was consumed with his quest. Honestly , to me , killing any of them.is the same as killing sunbro...coldhearted and cruel.
gough is a good character telling you a story and others I wish he was a playable characters it's sucks we don't get to play boss characters I mean all the boss characters we like
In my opinion dark souls 1 had the best story, cutscenes, and atmosphere. AND in my opinion THIS cutscene is the coolest. Really wish dark souls 2 wasn't so bland. I mean do you remember your first blind run through dark souls one? Ive never felt such a sense of adventure and terror. I felt so small and insignificant in a giant alive world. It was an incredible experience. Wish i could go back.
He isn't actually blind the eye holes in his helm are full of tree sap. They were plugged up on purpose by a certain character i cant remember whom but when he woke up because he's to proud to ever remove his helmet he simply just beleaves he is blind
It's so cool how he is blind and shot kalameet right out of the sky in the joint gough will also become hostile if attacked twice I think but I don't think you wanna do that
