1. Buy giant armor (615 units) until the inventory load is over 10000 2. Buy a caestus 3. Drop it and try to pick it up 4. Free some inventory space by dropping some of the giant armor. 5. Pick the caestus back 6. Open the shop menu again on the caestus tab, but just close it 7. Do the brightness method for dupes, but instead of going down+A go down+right+A 8. Repeat step 6 and 7
@@AngeloVdlg21wait so is it still doable on Xbox? Because this doesn’t do anything for me I bought 615 giant armor and everything, I followed what he did but only picked up 1 caestus instead of like 243
For the love of god it took a while before I could get this working so Imma just put how I got it working to save someone a headache... Make sure your offline... Buy 1 caestus, then you buy enough to get to 10,000 weight, then you drop whatever item you used to get to 10,000 carry weight... Now the goal is to drop enough of those items (pikes or golem stuff) to where you can actually pick something up (under 9,999 calculate it out first). Then once you know where the weight is buy an extra 29 (pikes or anything heavy), now drop the caestus first, then drop those 29 extra items you bought, then pick up the caestus... {{The max you can drop before the caestus on the ground disappears is 29}} Instead of 1 it should say a number higher than that. So now you good, whatever you do don't drop the caestus after this. First make sure whatever item you want to dupe is in the first slot for both items or materials like shards. Once your set up talk to the blacksmith, go to the caustus and hit buy, instead of buying or canceling press start TWO times to back out of both menus, then go to the brightness setting and do the glitch. Once you get the two menus its two different ways you can do this. 1. X, Down, Right, X, Down, Left, X, to dupe items or boss souls. 2. Right, X, Down, Right, X, Down, Left, X, to dupe materials like chunks. (I was on ps5 so I guess it would be the same for xbox) You start it over again by talking to the blacksmith and repeating that same process. If you did it this way, then congratulations and praise the sun on your new materials.
My dude you’re the freaking goat!! The same thing happened to me, it wouldn’t work. So after a whole day I was like why not check the comments and thank god I did
@@NomeCognomen - YES. I platinumed DS1 remastered (PS4) 2 months ago and it worked just fine. Some of the trophies require a lot of resource grinding and this dupe glitch helped avoid that. All the best!

Something to note, while the amount of negative quantity you get is dependent on how much weight you drop the *maxmimum* negative quantity is based on how much over the limit you were when you first tried to pick up the item. Also it works on PC August 30 2021. Edit: I feel like I want to add more information to this. If you are at 10004 over the inventory weight limit as you would be if you only carried 610 giant armours in your inventory and you pick up a caestus you store the value (carriedWeight(10 004) - inventoryWeightLimit(10 000)) / (failedPickupItemWeight(0,5)) = 8(totalPickups). Now if you drop 1 giants armour you'll be down to 9987,6 weight carried which makes for the ability to pick up a total of 12,4 weight. The next time you pick up anything it's going to try to fill the inventory with the amount of things you failed to pick up earlier (8), rather than filling the entire empty space (24). Now if we had 611 giants armour (10 020,4), tried to pick up a caestus (40), dropped two giants armour (9987,6) and picked up the caestus again it would give us 24 caestus and an item on the ground. The item on the ground is our remaining 16 caestus we weren't able to pick up before because we didn't have enough free inventory space. If you pick up the item on the ground it doesn't stack with the previous items you picked up meaning if you drop a caestus somewhere else and pick another one up from the stack you could end up with 17 caestus from this example.
here to explain how this glitch works from what ive seen: buy the caestus, become over 10,000. this means you cant pick anything else up. drop items (I used pikes) to become just barely lower than 10,000 carry weight, drop the caestus. I used pikes, so I was less than 10 weight under (THey weigh 10 weight each, I was exactly 7 weight under). I personally bought all the pikes and would then drop them one by one and pick up the caestus to find the exact number of pikes I needed for the caesus number to be more than 1. After you find this number, the exact number of weight points away you are from the weight cap (for me it was 7 weight points under, so 9992 or 9993 im not sure) is going to be replaced by a negative amount of caestuses or caesti. For me, it was -14 since i was 7 away from the weight cap. The reason the video shows -243 is because he was exactly 121.5 weight points away from the cap. This negative number is stored by the game for some reason, and upon doing the brightness menu glitch, the number of caesti you received (mine was negative 14) is the number of the souls or items or whatever you are going to receive, depending on what the cap for the item you are duplicating is, which again is why the video shows a negative 243 in the drop item menu. IDK why this works or why it hasnt been patched, I feel like all it would take is making the menus animation-lock so you couldnt switch between them until whatever was happening was finished, but whatever. I'm happy it works. Also third edit the reason the brightness glitch works is because it is moving both menus at the same time, but you can only see the brightness one as it overlaps the inventory menu. The reason the pattern always consists of a down + right + X or down + left + X is because if it didnt, you would exit the brightness menu by pressing the OK, which would mess the glitch up (again no idea why). Also if anyone notices anything that i got wrong please tell me. This was based off my own observation and logic, so it is subject to fault. I did very minimal testing because I'm lazy. I have been hearing this clang clang clang clang clang clang clang for the last hour and i think i might develop some sort of mental illness if i hear it one more time.
i can confirm this still works on ps4 as of oct 12 2020. if it helps also he drops 22 armors or though I don't think that matters but just a little extra to his setup. I was a little confused to parts of the video at times and had to do tests to figure things out but here's another quick more in-depth but to the point layout. Safe Step Bonus: To prevent any issue with step 6, put all Weapons/Armor ( accept giant armor ) not in use in storage. I haven't needed to do this myself but I guess it depends on how much gear your holding. so might be worth doing this if you think you might run into trouble. 1. max out your weight limit so you cant pick something up ( or buy 615 giant armors on top of what you have to grantee your maxed out ) 2. go to undead parish blacksmith ( downstairs from bonfire ) 3. buy a caestus ( Fist Weapon ) ( make sure you have none on you or it wont work ) 4. drop caestus and then pick it up once which should fail 5. drop 22 giant armors ( Warning: just drop 22. apparently items can despawn if you drop around 30 items which would remove caestus ) 6. Pick up caestus ( the ground icon for item should also disappear and give you 243+ ( if you cant pick this up sadly your still max limit. in this case for best results, move all unused armors/weapons accept for giant armor into storage and try again )) 7. speak to blacksmith go to purchase items and click on the caestus but don't buy or cancel instead press start, then O, then move away to shut him up 8. open inventory menu and place the item you want to dupe at the top. ( can be souls, slabs etc.. ) 9. now do the brightness glitch to get into the multi screen. ( L1, move down to brightness then press X then R1 very close together ( will take a few try's to get the distance from x to r1 right. ) 10. Once in double menu move to the screen of the item your duping ( souls, slabs etc.. ) with right arrow ( or left if you went too far ) 11. Once on the right menu press X, down, Right, X, ( now into drop item part ) press down once for max - value and go to ok and press X. 12. Press start to exit the menus and now go check your now 99 material. To repeat on other mats while glitched. simply start from 7. To do this again later start from step 2 but make sure you have the armors needed to max load. best way for this is to store a bunch of armors in storage till you wish to do again so you don't have to buy them but instead just move them over. I know its long but following this it should work 100% if not let me know. Thanks ducksual speedruns for the video. or though it was unclear on how you dupe other mats in other menu's or items at top etc.. i figured it out and got it working. This was a game changer! I noticed that (at least on Xbox One) if you don't drop enough giant armors after getting the negative value cestus, you won't be able to swap rings. Instead you just get a dialog box and nothing happens. I thought I broke the game until I dropped about 30 more armors and then it allowed me to swap rings again.
Works fine on ps4 as Dec 18th, thanks Extra tip: you only have to do it once then after that you can do the glitch again even if you moved all armors (except caestus)to bottomless box or closed the game, as long as you don't mess with it with that weapon.
Works very well thanks :) You can also put all of your bought Giant Armors into the Bottomless Box so you can pick up Armor drops. Just hold R1 and Up to put all of the items without having to drop them 1 by 1 tediously.
Awesome guide, and awesome comments detailing further. This glitch still works as of the 16th of January, 2022 This is going to help so much with ascension weapon achievements. Much appreciated to all who discovered this glitch, and those who explained it, also to From Software for leaving it untouched
Writing this comment after seeing millions of "Still works in 2021", they stopped patching the game long time ago, this glich will always work the same as the video on all consoles, so if it isn't working for you you must have done something wrong so try again, don't spread misinformation commeting how it doesn't work anymore.
I can confirm that this works on PS4 as of 11-18-20, and is quite easy to do. The only part that's a bit of a slog is the 3-4 minutes of rhythmic button mashing to buy giant armors. Two things I've discovered messing around with this: 1. Fire Keeper Souls seem to be locked at 1, even though they are a droppable and countable item. I've tested this several times and, even if everything else appears correct, with a high negative drop count etc, you'll still just have one fire keeper soul. I've duped boss souls, a dozen ore types, gold pine resins transient curses, etc. Everything that you would expect to work, does, with the exception of the Fire Keeper Soul. 2. It appears that you can store the set-up for this glitch across many hours of play. When you're done duping, if you go to access your bottomless box, you'll see that your Caestus still has a glitched count. Don't try to store it, just leave it in your inventory glitched. Lets say you travel around and clear new areas, play multiple sessions, etc. If you come back to Andre, all you have to do is go to buy a Caestus, and then press start to quit out of the menu. Activates the glitched quantity again. I've tested this a few times. I'm not 100% sure what conditions allow the Caestus to stay glitched in your inventory, but it's pretty helpful.

Works on the PS5 too! Like the people have been saying in the comments though, if you tried before and messed up: quit out because it only lets you drop 30 things or else the caesus disappears. This is awesome!

You can also so this glitch with your bottomless box. See, the weight limit is only applied to what you have in your player inventory, not the box inventory, so you can store your armor instead of dropping it

easy mode isn't enought, doing all these glitches on dark souls it becomes "stupid mode" because like, under 8 minutes you can do the bright glitch and level up your stats to something like, 40 strengh and dex, and just 1 hit anything in you way, and by any soul you step on you way destroying the game dificulty, you jest get more and more strongher, i just got the champion soul in the room where you die to sith the scaleless, and duped the hell with it, i'm like, 99 on almost all stats before killing Sith, i just killed him with like, 6 hits with my helbeirt, the game get's so easy with the bright glitch, and this dupe glitch, that i'm felling bad by just running around i hiting almost anything, even bosses can be killed with just 1 stamina bar... is so unfair dude XD

you can accidentally dupe other items with this same method. i killed the giant after buying the armors and couldn't pick up the hammer. i dropped enough armor to pick it up, and got "11" blacksmith hammers. later, i wanted to use it and noticed that instead of having 6 weight when equipped, it had 66. since this basically meant i couldn't use it, i wanted to see if putting it into the box would fix it. well, when i put the stack of "11" blacksmith hammers into the box, the game bugged out a bit and put 1 into the box and also left it in my inventory. then i had two of them, and they both weigh the correct amount. if you equip the "stack" of caestus, i wouldn't be suprised if the game still thinks it's a stack. and it probably weights X * .5 for whatever stack size you saw when you picked it up. i haven't tried forcing this to happen, since i don't know if it will work with items you drop yourself that didn't come from trying to pick up items that would've been auto-added to your inventory otherwise.
@@zeta138 i don't think it showed the altered weight until i equipped the hammer. in the inventory it still had the original 6 weight, but when i equipped it it took 66 equip load. or maybe it's a platform issue. i did this on PS4.
Basically you had a stack of Blacksmith Hammers equipped. The game's inventory screen doesn't know how to handle that so it just shows as normal until you equip it.
Hey, I have a quantity buying method that works on PC (Remastered version BTW), I have no idea if it'll work on console, but if you can already dupe souls and swap shop tabs with the shoulder buttons, then I see no reason why it wouldn't work. So, maybe somebody should try this out: If you go to the Undead Merchant (and bring about 3 million souls), you can highlight the second arrow type from the ammo tab, move your mouse over the weapons tab, and click-wait-Enter (or click-wait-e) to bring up a prompt that lets you buy up to 99 shortswords by hitting the down arrow to max out the quantity. The timing is similar to other duping methods, it's easy once you get it down. I can only get it to work for the second slot (even scrolling lower forces you to buy shortswords, just at a higher price, lol), and it takes 51 batches to meet the 10K weight limit, but it's easy and doesn't even require you to preload an arrow stack (although duping souls beforehand is a must, at those prices). I hope this helps anyone else who was distraught at the severe shortage of Zweihanders in this game.
Not possible on console apparently since you cant switch shop tabs with the shoulder buttons, you can only use the dpad so the giant armor method is the only way that you can negative dupe in dsr on consoles
Holy shit, I just got a nintendo switch cause I don't have access to my main consoles and I didn't wanna have to put in another 1000 hours into a save to get to where I was gear and level wise, this helped so much
So you might want to mention you can only drop so many items before the game starts deleting said items. Before anyone does this, do the math of all the weight in your inventory. I believe you can only drop like 50 items before they start deleting themselves. To be safe, only drop 25. Figure out how much weight you have, buy the amount needed to get to 10000 and buy 15 more. Buy caestus. Drop it. Drop 25 of whatever item you bought to go over limit. Pick up caestus. Also this dupe is expensive. Giant halberd cost 5000 souls. 625 halberds will put you at 10000 weight limit. That cost 3,125,000 souls. I would advise to only do this for duping "souls of". Duping boss souls can only be used one at a time. And or titanite slabs, etc.
I used another guide and bought a 1015 pikes, just to mess it up at the end when I couldn't get a negative value of cestus, and ended up dropping my one soul of sif
Hey if you do this. You might not be able to change rings as it will say ?dialog?. To fix this is to drop the caestus and pick it up again. The game wont be confused and instead of picking up 200 of them it picks up 1. You can always redo the glitch by buying more giants armour :)
-----FYI------ You can only have 30 dropped items spawned in game at the same time. So if you drop 29 armors you need to attempt to pick up the caestus which resets it's queue and then you can continue dropping armors from what I can tell you this doesn't reset the caestus drop amount either. Also you can move all left over armors (while keeping glitched caestus) to the bottomless box thus allowing you to pick up items again. Then completely follow repeat step 7 to duplicate at a later date As of 10/26/20

As of September 30th 2020 this glitch still works on Nintendo Switch. Small advice don’t follow his numbers exactly as his inventory is more than likely different than yours. He isn’t lying or anything it’s just specific to what is in your inventory. I experimented a bit.
November 2021, still working. At first didn't get beyond 99 but caestus stayed on ground. Then dropped some more armor and passed the threshold with getting 130 Caestus.
It worked for me, I bought 620 things of giant armor, I believe I dropped more than 20, you should try to drop more little at a time until it lets you pick them up
Can confirm that this works from Step 7 indefinitely. You can rest at bonfires, warp, quit the game and reload, fully close out Dark Souls and restart the application, or even turn off the console (I use PS4). You just need to do Step 7 where you talk to Andre, not the whole process!
Help, when i try to buy more than 592 armors, a dialogue says "cannot hold additional items". How do i get past that? I am on the switch Edit: i was mistaken and confused. in the video the guy needed to buy 600 armors to max out his inventory limit, but my inventory was already so full (ng+7 moment) that i literally could not buy 600 armors. it turns out 300 is enough to push me over the limit. also, you can only drop around 30 items i think before the oldest item despawns, so dont go too far over the limit. *This glitch still works on switch as of oct 11 2021.* the clearer explanation somewhere in this comment section helped a lot. im coming back to this comment a year later because i lost interest in this game right around when i posted this, but now im bak :)

Still can't figure out how the amount of Caestus you pick up is calculated? For the record, while testing I'm keeping my inventory on me. I don't want to put everything in storage. I know that my weight limit is currently hit at 469 Giant Armor. If I buy 20 Giant Armor over to 489, then drop 21, I pick up 23 Caestus. I went back to the Giant Blacksmith and bought myself up to 499 Giant Armor this time. I cleared the Caestus out of my inventory and bought it back from Andre. This time, I dropped 20 Armor to take me to 479. Knowing I was still over and it'd fail, I went to pick up the Caestus 5 times, then went back and dropped another 20 armor. With 459 Giant Armor in my inventory, this time picking up the Caestus gave me a whopping 401 Caestus. It doesn't really make sense to me as I've done similar quite a few times and generally got anywhere from 20, 23, 53, and 103 Caestus. I've read a couple of theories here (incl. the video ) as to how it's calculated (most people seem to be glossing over this and the common response is 'dump your equipment in storage and do it this way') but I can't really calculate how it works. Despite my desire to know, this is still a super cool dupe.
Two questions 1) Sometimes, the dropped caestus disappears before I am done dropping the giants armor. Is there a certain time limit that a dropped item will exist for? 2) I successfully performed the glitch, but I didn’t drop quite enough giants armor. I can only duplicate 20 items at a time. If I were to perform the glitch again so I can duplicate items faster, would I simply get rid of the caestus I currently have in my inventory and try again by buying another caestus?
1) I'm not sure, hasn't been an issue for me on PC. 2) if you just fill up on giants armor again you can just drop the one you have - if you drop it and pick it up while not crammed you'll see it turns into 1 caestus.
@@ducksual_gaming I think the dropped caestus disappears if you drop too much giants armor, so much so that you would have to have over 999 caestuses to make up for the dropped armor's weight (around 30 pieces of giants armor). Although I'm now encountering a strange problem: I was just barely over the 10,000 unit weight limit, dropped the caestus, was unable to pick it back up (meaning my inventory was still crammed), dropped 29 pieces of giants armor (which should be the maximum amount you can drop without the caestus disappearing), picked up the caestus, and only got a meager 14. Any ideas?
Had the same problem my fix was putting the giant armour in the storage after i dropped the caestus to get loads of caestus, i then got like 6k caestus to take out of the box to cram my inventory faster instead of using giant armour
@@THEEVANTHETOON Every time you try to pick up the ceastus there are a few ceastuses added based on how much you are over the inventory limit. So if you tried picking it up once and got 14, trying to pick it up twice would get you 27.

Imagine still playing this 11+ year old fromsoft game even after Elden Ring has been out for over a year already. I have about 6,000 hours in this game and almost 2,000 hours in Elden Ring so far, so let me assure you that even to someone like me, Elden Ring still completely blows this game out of the water and there is absolutely no reason to ever again return to this game in 2023. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
I tried to do the glitch with both giant armour and pike but it doesn’t work. I keep getting caestuses under 100 and even if I do get over 100 it still doesn’t work
I did it earlier and it worked with chunks and eyes of death. But I’m trying again with sunlight medals and slabs and it’s not working now. I’m doing the same thing and even tried other things people said and it’s still not working. What do I do now
So for once im going to add on to one of these because it isn't explained in the video. -keep the caestus in your inventory. -Get rid of the armor after initial duplication -continue duplication steps from exiting buying the caestus step. -profit.
Can't get it to work, I tap down right x but it just keeps saying im hitting the default button. Got it to work thanks to reading comments about another video showing what you did in the menu abit differently, I started tapping down and right at the same time I think was the issue.. Thanks a lot lol!
Hey I was wondering what does one do with the left over armor. Do I sell them all or drop it? Also if I were to get rid of them does the glitch stay put?
