I show a selection of darkroom prints taken with various Old Film Cameras and all on Outdated Film and Papers. All within 1 mile of my home in Brentwood, Essex, ENGLAND. www.buymeacoffee.com/pentaxpete
Inspirational viewing with a very fine set of prints it just shows with a good eye and knowledge you can record plenty of good images close to home. Enjoyed that Peter thanks mate ❤️📷❤️
Terrific photos Peter! Lots are great, particularly like the last ones of the ice though. I haven't taken too many photos in the lockdown period, these are very inspiring. Thank you for sharing!
Very nice video, Peter, great pictures, and a one that would be interesting to see for future generations, wondering what this lockdown period was all about.
Great video as usual Peter. I had no idea that those old papers would still work as well as that, I still remember after a darkroom session washing and glazing prints on the Kodak rotary glazing machine. You just prayed that the prints wouldn’t stick.
Ha Ha ! YES -- I had a Kodak Rotary Glazer when I was Photographer at UCL Geology Dept. I bought a Japanese 'FC Glazer' for myself and it is in garage and wife wants me to DUMP it bur when weather breaks and I do more darkroom work I can use it instead of my small 'Flatbed Glazer' i use at present.
Another great vidieo, really lovely work,I only wish i had kept my film cameras, i would love to get into black & white developing, nice to see you out on your photography walks!
Very interesting. I stumbled on your channel just now from a comment you left on a video. I know it's all subjective to some extent but I have to say you've got an incredible eye for these photos. Just perfect in my opinion, not one shot I didn't like. Not to mention just listening to you talk about them is a lesson in photography itself, I enjoy hearing the thought process and camera setting behind a photo. Great stuff, thanks for posting these videos
THANKS !! I do not have all the 'Technical Knowledge' or a 'Go-Pro Camera' to do videos as most others do and I don't know how to add music and stuff .
thanks Peter. great job doing all those prints...specially on all that "old" paper. thinking next time people would appreciate you showing off the darkroom stuff, specially enlarger and its lenses. stay healthy and sane ;)
i tried to 'Video' under darkroom safelighting to show printing BUT Video camera is not sensitive enough BUT I could just show enlargers etc with the light on if it would not be 'boring'
@@-vanveenjf7550 OK --- will think about it but when I gave a show at Brentwood & District Photographic Club some time ago all about my FILM Hasselblad gear with 16x12" Darkroom Prints one of the members sat there letting out very LOUD Yawns of 'Boredom' as it was not 'DIGITAL' -- He LEFT to join Chelmsford Camera club BUT has since re-joined BRENTWOOD and still gives out 'Boring Looks ' on the ZOOM meetings whenever I say anything about FILM Photography ---
@@theoldfilmbloke thanks, will keep you busy during that crazy lockdown.... ohh maybe we should feel sorry for that "boring" guy. nothing ventured nothing gained ;) also did a lot of film in the "old" days. would not want to go back full stop to film either.
@Peter Elgar great video! Mr Peter could you please make a video about printing in colour? Maybe showing a bit of your lab as well? Thank you in advance!
Good to see you keeping busy and still enjoying your photography during lockdown Peter. Amazingly contrasty prints with the old film and paper. Thankyou for making the video.
Great video! Found you via your Praktica MTL 5 B that was of great help to me, so subscribed. Loving your videos more and more! :) Happy to start exploring film photography with you as my guide!
An inspiration to see how active you are with the camera and enlarger, Peter. My favourite image was one you passed over quickly, of a couple wearing hats and drinking coffee, and the guy with jeans ripped at the knee.
Nice set of prints, Peter, particularly the ones taken with the Rollei. Glad to see you're still getting out and about, and producing such great work. Keep safe (and I look forward to seeing your photos both here and on Flickr).
Thanks for showing the work and telling about the cameras and lenses and such. Very relaxing and nice especially in these times. Very nice to see indeed. I liked the reflection one at 6 minutes. Just make sure if you submit it and there is a female judge you put the bright spot on the bottom so it leads in, although I like the bright part on the top. ;) Nice images all around, nice to see (as best as one can) real prints. Quite enjoyable to see. Best wishes! God bless!
Hi Peter. Just like When Digital was dominating the market, a few die hard`s like myself and you!! were bucking the trend by sticking to film through the digital age onslaught. Only to see film making a come back, and vinyl if that`s your bag. I will probably go with graded paper i am sure i can print most of my negs on grade two and three. I see Graded paper sticking around for years and even increasing with popularity and more choice will be available as more people see the benefits of Graded paper and snub the split grade onslaught!! Sounds familiar!! I will be ordering some Ilford Ilfospeed Grade 3 Might even try some Foma graded . Thanks for your reply , It has helped me to make the decision to use Graded paper as i wasn`t sure which way to go with it. Regards. Ps what about showing us how you print on graded paper as a video to add to your collection. I`m sure it would spark a lot of interest.
Sorry but I tried to Video 'darkroom Work' under 'Safelight and my CANON Video Camera is not sensitive enough, then I am in the middle of Hospital Operations -- had one on Scalp for Squamous Cell Carcinoma then on Tuesday ( Tomorrow) have a Cataract Operation -- been waiting a YEAR and both came close to each other !
Brilliant Peter thank you. How do you remember the details of each exposure setting and lens used for every photo taken during your walk? Then after development and printing you add those details too, the paper used, developer etc, giving a perfect history of each photograph. It is very impressive, now be honest have you got a photographic memory, or do you cheat and use a little note book 😜
Yo ! Dickie from Billericay ! I used to do lots of Press Photos there for the 'ARGUS' ( went BROKE in 1980) then the GAZETTE -- always going to Billericay Town Football Club -- it was a BIG EVENT when they got 'Floodlighting' but it was a struggle even at 800 ASA and f1.4 lens to get exposures -- nothing like West Ham ! You could join BRENTWOOD & District Photographic Club -- you do not have to 'Live' in BRENTWOOD ! Look us up www.bdpc.uk
For these small 'Demonstration Prints' I use a metal masking frame to hold paper flat under the enlarger and that gives a white border but if miss the correct way and the border is all un-even I cut it off as it makes it difficult to line up on my scanner. For 'CLUB and Exhibition Prints' I use a border if the mount is black to set off print against the mount.
Hello Peter, I have a few questions , I recently printed some out of date ilfospeed grade 2 and when compared to some of my multi grade prints their is a noticeable yellow cast on the prints. The developer is Bromophen it would of been a few weeks mixed at the time of printing and always stored in my cool darkroom in a sealed bag, My fix, ilford rapid fix would of been 3 months old. Are the chemicals at fault or has the paper passed it sell by date, Regards
Ahh!! ok! so my fix has gone off, that`s a great help. I will look at ditching that then. So when you say the paper is creamy /yellow before processing!! does that mean, once the paper has been under the enlarger, then just before putting the paper in to the developer ?
The Creamy /Yellow is teh colour of the Silver Bromide chemicals spread onto the paper surface -- on processing after exposure the Bromide is converted to black Silver Grains and the 'Whiteness' of the paper base should show.
Hi Peter. I`ve invested in a darkroom, what paper would you recommend, using either graded or multi grade. What do you see as the pros and cons of either paper. Thanks
For many years I used 'Graded' paper but it 's difficult to get n ow and more expensive I believe as the 'market' is all for the 'Multigrade Type' -- I have some Ilford FILTERS but cannot get very high contrast as the 'magenta' fades badly. Even with the highest Magenta value on my Colour Head enlargers i still cannot get a Grade 5 ! But 'GRADED' paper Grade 5 is no longer made ! you have to ensure there is enough 'Meat' on the negatives to 'Print' rathe than 'Scan' .
YES and a Yashica FR-1 with winder, 28mm 50mm and 80-200mm lenses, Contax Real Time hammer-head flash, cables etc etc -- all dusty kin an old box from a Deceased Dad -- luckily the SON phoned the Hon. Sec. of my Club, Brentwood & District Photographic Club saying if anyone wanted 'Old Film Cameras get to West Horndon Village Fast as they are going to The Council DUMP' so of cause I RUSHED there !
