When you get to the other side, time stops, and this starts playing louder as you walk the road... I wish I could forget Darkwood to feel this experience all over again.
Learning that the end of the game isnt even out of the woods in the blissful ending was absolutely shocking "The forest wants to devour you, youre heading straight into its jaws."
That quote actually makes me think. If ALL roads lead deeper into the woods, could it be that in the true reality, all of Earth has been infected by the being already, and both endings to Darkwood are still just an illusion that the Sttanger sees in his mind created by it's forces?
This song makes me think of someone who had escaped the Darkwoods, but had also been irreversibly changed by it psychologically. They return to their old apartment yet the sense of unease is never washed away, every bump, every creek, every dog bark sets them off, strikes a familiar terror in their heart even if just for a moment. Being around old loved ones and friends feels empty, they have no idea what you went through, how could they? You are worlds apart now. There are no more dangers lurking around the corner and it's driving you mad. You left the forest but the forest never left you.
This song has a somewhat peaceful vibe to it, as if you already stepped into the unknown an you know there is no going back anymore and youre at peace with it. Also the name of the song "The Road Home" and the line from the game "all roads lead deeper into the woods" kinda make me think to life too and death, the greatest unknown, no matter which "road" you take in life it will always lead you there.
There’s a similar theme in the original Binding of Issac after you defeat a boss, as sort of peaceful yet hopeless feeling of ‘there’s nothing more you can do here’ “Peace Be With You” that was the name of it. Much more depressing that this theme however.
notably this is the song that plays on the return to the doctor's house in the old woods. i remember first playing and the music hit right as i looked out over the edge toward the massive, bottomless pit that formed, full of roots eating away at the home and the ground beneath. it made me feel more empty than i had in a while, staring out into what seemed like the maw of the forest itself. it didnt matter what i did at that point, the forest was stronger than anything id faced before in the game, and it would continue to consume further and further. i felt helpless at its hunger, something insatiable that turned all to emptiness. i wish i could re-experience that isolation all over again
I kind of wish this theme was more "IM HOME" rather than "this place is creepy" but i still like it. MY personal favorite is the song that plays at the end of the night.
To be fair, this and Morning are some of the most comforting pieces in the game. Which says a lot about the game itself as both of them are unsettling in a weird way.
For me this sounds as we get some kind of comfort, but that's a comfort received too late. It's like ending an anguish but with a destroyed psyche. You know you have some consolation coming but the real consolation in already lost. This track wraps all of those feelings for me. It brings a relaxation but at the same time you know the real end is not there and never will be
Personally this soundtrack screams to me "I'm so close..." Like It's the final stretch between you and your goal... You just gotta keep going... You gotta walk The Road Home...
Well... I kind of used to listen to this when I was going home from a job I had, without any lights outside, except for only my flashlight. Sounds too primitive to be true? It is. And I must tell, it felt creepy and adventurous.
Darkwood is the most similar experience i've ever had to Dark Souls lately, Not in difficulty, And stuff like that. I just know im gonna miss playing this game for the first time a lot, "Just like Dark Souls".
its all over dont care what ending whats done is done all i know i out of the forest it took me 51 hours plus going too all location i hope some day they will make another darkwood somewhat like it whats in the woods stays in the woods no sleep in 61 days in game must be sleep deprived
