This song came out of a time in my life right after college when I knew that I had to step out of my comfort zone and put myself out there to find a job. As an introvert, and a people-pleaser, gaining the courage to talk to people who were basically in the position to "judge" me whether I am worthy to be part of their company was such a challenge. I always found my spirit so drained and burdened. That's when I realized that I had to get to the bottom of it because whatever it was about my heart, it was affecting other areas of my life for sure. That's when I realized that my fear of man was so toxic and unhealthy, not just for me, but unloving to others who might need to hear truth over defensive niceness, and ultimately to God who was the only One worthy to be feared.
apologetic. (demo) is the third single from my upcoming EP, 'unapologetic.' releasing on September 17th. 'unapologetic.' is a project of 4 demos, in their imperfect and unmastered state as a reminder to myself and to other creatives that there is no such thing as wasted art. I have a tendency to be a perfectionist in the way that I create, which has slowed down my growth significantly, and has shaped my heart to care more about how I look like to other people rather than be eager to bless others with the music I make.

Oh my goodness I LOVE this song! God knows how hard I’ve been trying to fight fear of man it’s honestly tiring to fight it but I hope to one day overcome it. To know that someone’s soul is on the line and you withhold from them the Gospel has to be the worse feeling imaginable, especially since you don’t know how much time they have left…

I resonate a lot of this song. As an introvert and as someone who felt pressure to speak up when someone said something I knew wasn't right. I was scared of their reaction. For me, I think I _did_ start drowning in my feelings, but that led to me thinking my feelings were actually God's feelings. From thinking God wanted me to act more, I started thinking the emotional feelings I felt were _directly_ _from_ God. This lead me to following, sitting in, and waiting on my feelings as if they _were_ God. And I had a subtle idea that the Holy Spirit would leave me if I didn't listen. I realized this was incorrect, as it left me drained, burdened, anxious, and feeling alone, because of the situations it would constantly put me in. But I justified it by out-of-context scriptures. I realized this was wrong after God (long-story short lol) showed me to Not Trust My Feelings As If They Are What Is Right. My feelings seemed to predict the future, so I thought "how couldn't they be God?" but I was wrong. And my relationship with my brother suffered for it. :( I wanted to share that here, for anyone else who may be feeling something similar. Listening to this song, there's a lot of overlap to what can be a right way to push through anxiety and follow Jesus, and what can be an askew way of really following your feelings. There is a slight but significant difference in principles, so I didn't want anyone to take the message of the song the wrong way, especially about 'trying harder'. So If anyone else feels *burdened* and *>>compelled

I totally agree, friend. I resonate with that deeply, and I know to those who struggle with listening to emotions, they would understand the struggle of what I was trying to express in this song. I wrote this as a young Christian, still admittedly fighting through those internal battles (haven't completely overcome but I believe I've gone a long way by His grace). I'm glad you caught that, "try a bit harder". Years later I listened to the song, I knew that line was still not hitting the target, but I left it as reflection of what my experience was at the time. I was giving in to my emotions too easily, and thereby gave up too easily. I think that was what I meant by "try a little harder", in a sense of being willing to endure the difficult/confusing emotions, and walking by faith in His grace. But you're right, it's more about where that strength of doing something difficult will lie. It can come from us, and our own perseverance, or it can come from a surrendered, "admittedly-weak-but-His-grace-is-enough" heart that walks by faith. The line is thin, it may look the same even, but the heart is different--one is free, the other is not. Praying for true spiritual rest for us ♥️ God bless, brother.

Reminds me of something Abba told me recently… Don’t confuse politeness with kindness. POLITENESS… speaks what the WORLD says is kind. It never hurts because it COMFORTS your flesh. KINDNESS… speaks what the WORD says is truth. It sometimes hurts because it CUTS your flesh. Be kind, not polite.
