I remember Darlaston in the early 1960's. I was 7 when we left there in 1965, but still have fond childhood memories. We lived in King Edward St. and I went to Pinfold Street School. My Nan and Grandad had the fish and chip shop on the Leys, next door to Mary Nixon's sweet shop, for a great many years until they finally had to move out in 1969, to make way for the development of the St. Lawrence Way. Also, my Aunt Clara worked in the Free Gardners Social Club, which was right opposite our house in King Edward Street.

I remember the thundering presses at Garringtons which made the ground outside shake. Passed it every day on my way to school.

Vaguelly remember it till mid 70's, there were still areas of forging in 2004. Where we had spring steel forged in to blanks to make gunlock V springs. We were the last lock makers in Great Britain by May 2009 having moved from Bilbrook to Hodnet in 2006.

Now a days Darlo has Asda Boots and Heron and if you want more you get the 34, 39, 334 or 37 to Walsall and you could get the 79 to Wednesbury
