This ballad was a favorite of the beboppers. We can bring the whole history of jazz to it as a solo jazz piano ballad!

Good grief, Maestro ... you’re making it awfully difficult to NOT sign up for some Skype instruction! D.T.D (and Jimmy Van Heusen) among my all time favorites. How much fun it must be to be able to just sit down in that kind of casual, off-hand manner and play with such a buoyant, genial result (forget the years of dedication required to get there!). Anyway, wonderfully enjoyable. Thanks again for this excursion through the Real Book. Maybe can’t play it...but sure as heck can listen to it! : )

Thanks, and I'm really glad you're getting something from my videos. The key I've found is to enjoy playing at whatever level you're currently at. Even if it's just the melody, you can sit down and play tunes in a "casual, off-hand manner." That's what I've always done. (BTW - yes, I'd love to help you with lessons if and when you're interested.) Start by just playing a few melodies, maybe with chords too, in this way.

Exceptionally beautiful! Would you say you were playing it straight, or is there a little swing to it?

Thanks Glenn! There were hints of straight 8ths, especially during the first chorus, and then it moved into a more swinging groove after that. Sometimes I like to go back and forth on ballads.
