Two kestrel chicks wanting the same "meal." One has taken this huge "bite" and trying to swallow it and the big guy decides he's gonna take it and eat it himself... a tug of war follows.....strange, strange...and not to mention icky.
Mean little devils. I couldn't believe that the little guy was fighting so hard then was too tired to swallow his prize. At first, I thought they were eating the little guy! Good thing i stayed for the rally.
I too thought the larger chicks were attacking their smaller sibling and pulling its guts out! (Sheesh) That said, I'm also somewhat curious as to why the caretakers didn't go ahead and cut up the meat into smaller pieces before serving it to the chicks? Hmm.. I'm also thinking that in the wild, the mother would feed her chicks smaller shreds of meat until they got older? (Shrug)
@@Katnea3 parents bring the food it is not provided, mum did feed appropriate pieces but as chicks of different sizes sometimes little takes bigs bite...thus this and little was ok after
robin2012ism I better go back and watch the rally.. I couldn’t bare to think Cornell Lab would purposely not feed them.. I couldn’t bare to watch the end...
Sure glad I watched to the end! I thought they were eating their sibling. Thought only owls were cannibals. Was very happy to see the little guy flip himself over!! Hope he makes it with his big bully sibling. Phew.
I did too!!!! I was feeling pretty traumatized because I could see he was breathing. Oh I thought was for the love of God die already don't let these peeps eat You Alive! That big guy is a jerk!
Omg what a shot i too same as most of us thinking they're pulling out the little one's stomach , than I realise they sought of saving his life by pulling the big bite out of his swallowed food
It's sad to see so many people in the comments calling them evil, devil birds and saying they're killing their siblings because at first it appears that way. People are calling them bad names, saying bad things about them, as if kestrels are the worst bird on earth. when in reality they are just getting a big piece that was too big out of its mouth. That also should be in the description. They're not evil. No cannibalism going on.
Yes, it was very strange. I too thought they were trying to eat little bro ;-) I think that little one would have died if they would not have helped to eat that gigantic piece of food that was stuck in its throat! I still wish they could have gotten a little bit more out of its mouth, but I guess things worked out for this little baby :-o Wow 😲 🤢 🐣 💗 Ty for sharing joni T
I watched this live when it happened and I though Chester (the little guy) was a goner. He took such a big bite I thought he was going to choke. But the sheer hungry greed of the other two helped pull the meal back and shredded it into something more manageable for the little guy. He was going into a food coma before he had it all properly swallowed!
@@vern0018 These are the kestrel cubs. they do not harm each other. The pup is about to choke because it ate a large piece. the other two are trying to eat the food in its mouth. so it doesn't bite the little one's foot. it looks like that from afar.
I remember repeatedly doing that to my younger brother with my elder sister.... over a bottle of Coca cola. .... until he learned to spit into it in front of us before we were able to grab it. 🤮
I have seen this video 2 months ago & saw it in a whole different way. I too thought they were trying to eat little bro ;-) I think that little one would have died if they would not have helped to eat that gigantic piece of food that was stuck in its throat! However, the chick trying to consume the LARGE bite (looks like a bird) looks like he is the littlest runt, looks like he has been bonked (hair missing) and he is very thin and he cowards down to the larger chick. So I think he definitely needs to eat. I sure would have liked to have seen the end of the video and how this worked out for the littlest baby chick. It does look like the big chick gave up, but we don't know that. Prayers that the little chick got to finish this meal and continued to eat and thrive to full fledge. 🥰❤️🦅🐥🐥🐥🦅❤️🌻 Thank you Joni T
seems to me that the chick who took the huge bite couldve been chocking to death and its siblings saw the remaining food hanging out of its mouth and tried to eat it, and in doing so managed to pull the food out of the original chicks mouth long enough for it to breathe and regain its composure so it could swallow the big bite. (That was literally my thinking from start to finish. then i read the comments and saw that most people saw it as 2 chicks stealing food from another chick). personally i like to believe the "choking chick saved by siblings" point of view... idc if im right or not lol but the chick who originally took the bite didnt look good at all for most of the video.
Animals don’t have feelings. We just think they do. It’s all instinct. A baby bird would join in feasting on itself if it didn’t get weak from being eaten.
Mac ((large chick)) : CHARLIE SHARE YOUR EATING EVERYTHING!!! Charlie((small chick)) : NO MINE! ALL MINE *chokes and has difficulty on swallowing* Mac: Idiot! Your choking it em up, give us the food!
How was that sibling not hurt with biggo stepping all over its stomach and head? Then I watched til the end and it seemed it was trying to help...amazing
Like so many others...I thought they were eating their sibling. They pecked him hard several times...I do believe that the momentum of natures' feeding frenzy kicked in there for a bit and that wee one WOULD have been a goner had it not stopped. You know...bullies that start in on someone then the frenzy kicks in and they just don't stop ....
Poor guy’ he was always lagging behind his brothers and sisters’ eating last after they were full and just the runt’ of the bunch’ not to many days left?
So he was choking and they saved him because his eyes were bigger then his stomach. Nice to have family that lives you. Me my family would watch me choke and die with the food I bought them.
Are these Kestrels in New York ? I had 2 near me in Chinatown that stopped on my fire escape ladder often , and I saw them even in winter with snow and ice. You are lucky to have a camera in their nest to monitor.
Tinker Tailor because they lay 4-6eggs a clutch 3 days in between each egg & start incubation period right as the 3rd egg gets laid.. so if there’s 4 eggs the 1st 3 will hatch 3 days before if there’s a 5th egg 6 days before & everyday they grow & change so much! I have seen owls, hawks, eagles, pretty much every raptor but an osprey eat a tiny or very small sibling before.. sometimes they just get in way on accident or sometimes food is scarce & smallest goes 1st..
It looks like they disemboweled and eating their chick sibling! Horrific! Oh, ok, a bone is stuck in the crop if the chick and the bigger chick is trying to pull it out to get some of it. Yeah that is disgusting. Bleah 🤢
don't worry, they only used their little brother as a table to eat, they weren't really eating his belly, it was just a piece of meat from another animal :)
