What a disastrous event to experience. What I take away from this, is that this is something this fire fighter has never seen before, and he can't comprehend why some of the things on his property are still standing, while something right beside escaped the fire completely. It just reinforces for me, and I hope it does for others as well, that fighting fires is not for novices. There's no substitute for experience. Experience gained during a fire such as this one which almost wiped out a whole community, and he was on the front line, is the worst way to gain it considering the tremendous personal loss he's suffered.
