Official Music Video from 903 Music. A powerful song about the effects of war on soldiers once they return home and try to adjust to the mundane realities of a free society. Could be about any soldier from any war.

My family and I went to get my cousin after he got back from Afganistan, and when we where driving home this song started to play. My cousin look up to the sky and started to cry. You could see in his eyes that he was thinking about thing he did and what he saw. Thank God for our troops I have an unexpressable amount of respect for all of our vertrans. Thanks for keeping up safe.

August 17 2009. That is the date I touched back down to American soil. I remember fighting back hot tears watching my mother cry and run toward me at the airport. All I could think about was every man coming off of those planes in boxes, whos mothers would never embrace them again. God bless every man, and woman who served , is serving, or will serve this beautiful land.

robkan007 I'd take prison. We all have rights. You just have to realize. Who are you really fighting for? Honestly, I don't believe in the 'war or prison'. That's probably what Hitler said to all his soldiers too. Don't get me wrong. It's great when people join the military and fight for a cause. This 'war' has been going for too long. Lets fix home first before we start policing other countries and helping them fight their problems.

This song is so true. I returned home from OIF 2-3 in 2005 and all of my best friends would drink and finally ask what was different. I had no idea how to explain it ot them at the time. Now in the profession I'm in I run into veterans daily and I do whatever I can to help them, I know the pain and feelings there in and I do all I can to help.

It's been 8 years since I got back, and 6 since I was medically retired for multiple reasons. I can still relate to this song, because not a day goes by that I don't think about that time frame and know that the fresh-faced 18 year old was a completely different person to the scarred, worn-down 33 year old I see every day in the mirror.

Dakota Carlton I know one Airman who was sent to Da Nang AB South Vietnam in Feb 1968 and returned Feb 1969, he left where we were stationed at, he was like a Bob Hope a jovial extrovert, when he returned he completely 😢 changed; somber and withdrawn. He was assigned to Graves Registration to ship the bodies back Stateside.

that's true. when I got home, I was diagnosed with PTSD. I would be walking around town like I was holding my C7 (Canadian military version of the AR-15) I freaked people out by doing that. I got real heavy into alcohol and I nearly lost my sweet wife and kids to the bottle, but thankfully, they held an intervention and got me to quit the bottle and got me the help I needed. he last time I had alcohol in my system was on Canada Day. it was a drink with all my army buddies and a toast to those who weren't with us anymore. both Canadian, and American. Oorah.

Enlisting after high school to become a United States Marine. For those of you that don't agree, that's ok, just keep in mind that the only reason you can argue about this is because we have soldiers fighting for our rights and freedoms. Freedom isn't free.

Including Vietnam, we have been fighting no win wars so the military/industrial complex can get more defense spending to try out their new weapons. And politicians support them because they then get political donations. USMC1969-1971
@thevirtualtraveler

But the only ones attacking our civil liberties are the politicians at home. I don't comprehend what sending good Men over to basbysit a people who don't want us there for 20 years has to do with freedom of the press. A people who go right back to the way they were before the moment we leave. What did we accomplish? Why did so many have to die? Sure, we got Bin Ladin, but I promise you, Bin Ladin was a Hydra, and now that we have pulled out, 20 more will sprout up in his place.

Ya know my brother served 9 years. 3 months ago he took 5 bullets to the chest. Shouldn't have survived but he did, thank god. But he's always told me that once you get over there you realize people back home don't really give a shit. What you fight for is the brother or sister next to you. Doesn't matter what political party they agree with or their sexuality. Nor race or gender it's the fact that when shit hits the fan they're gonna have your back. You forget about everything that is wrong with the world and realize what is right. That's why you fight. Doubt many people will agree with him or me, but not a day goes by that I don't think of any service man or woman. So thank you all. (to all that it may concern my brother is fine.)

+Anne McNamara You've maybe noticed I posted something about the song. As with most stories, what was not told was a really nice Ozzie who put various parts of me back together and was a screaming psychotic b***H about it (physical therapist--I owe her my ability to walk, by the by) or the helicopter with a Roo on the side that came and picked me up (what IS it with Aussies and seriously non-regulation markings?). Scariest thrill ride I ever took; apparently psychosis is required in Australian pilots and they were sending an armored ambulance for me when this fool picked me up. Still thanking God for Tasmans for that one. We didn't all forget, Anne.

Here Is the funny thing I am a Veteran and I am Happy that each and everyone of you has the freedom to say whatever you wanna say :) That is what we fight for is your everyday freedoms and liberties that most of you take for granted. When we go over to fight we are not doing it for any political reason we are doing it to make sure our brothers and sisters make it back home so that they can see their loved ones once again. And when that doesn't happen it hits us harder then anyone else . I wish I could go over to my friends house and hangout out like we used to but we can't that is part of war and no one should ever talk bad about someone they don't know who did things for people that never supported them in the first place . !9D OEF OIF

The Korean vets came back to a country that really didn't care about them. The Vietnam vets came back to a country that held them accountable for a war they were forced to fight in. You never saw any Vietnam veterans wearing military caps or shirts for over thirty years. Not until the first Gulf War. I know I was one of them. There were no homecomings or applause for us. No matter how many times people come up and thank me for my service will it ever erase how I was treated when I came home.

My father was a Korean war veteran, rest his soul. His 85th Birthday would have been today. He suffered all of his life for what he went through in the "forgotten war" in Korea. He told me once that he probably killed over a thousand men firing the big howitzers. How did he live with that his whole life? Maybe that's one reason he had 9 children. RIP Dad. Miss you so much. God Bless You. Finally at peace in Heaven.

Tank Wrold If you don't care about the troops that give you the freedom to live your life, then you are more than welcome to go to say, Iraq where they don't really have much of a standing military. Due to this they have a number of terrorist groups that would blow you away sooner than say hello. Don't "preach" about not bringing it to youtube, when you are the one that started this. Plus, just so you know, you would't be able to "just come here to listen to the song" in Iraq, or Afghanistan or Iran or any of the Middle East for that matter.

***** I do naturally write in a way that leaves little, if any room for contradiction, as the only way to make room for contradiction is to be either incorrect or only cover a minute area of a subject. I choose to only write if I am sure as to what I am talking about. So thank you for noticing, and I know that ignorance is incurable, unless the subject wishes to learn and correct it. It would appear that ignorance is perfectly fine with some people however.

***** thank you for saying that. You're 100% right. The first time I heard this song it hit me hard because I couldn't put my own emotions into words. This when I heard this song I broke and couldn't stop listening to it. Spending 12 months pouring sand out of my boots, missing my wife and kid, my family, and watching the morale of my team go up and down daily was a full struggle. I spent the new two years trying to re-adapt to "normal" society and the truth be told, you never really do.

You know I was over there. I worked with people who have lived with massive violence their whole life. These people do not know what is to NOT live behind cement blast walls. They think tanks and armed armored troop carriers travel up and down the streets in the USA, like they do in their home. Until you have been there and seen what these pour souls live with every day of their lives you are not qualified to talk about the morality of these wars. Before I left I took it all for granted too, these people take nothing for granted. If we did NOTHING else we exposed them to something BETTER and they are better for it. I am home now and I do not suffer you sniveling crybabies very darned well. Our men and women in uniform are the finest of the lot and it is a shock to the people returning to see the laziness and petiness.
@MrSinfold
@MrSinfold 10 лет назад
killedmymom I don't like his view on things. Calling civilians "snivelling crybabies", and revering soldiers, that's pretty fucking fascistic. But it's a sick world. You people only going to use the catch-all argument of "I was there", in some shithole in a war fighting for oil companies and corrupt politicians and automatically, like magic you're better than people who actually matter a rat's ass like scientists and people who contribute positives to society. I swear military types are as entitled as welfare queens. And fuck me, they are.
@Aramis-bq6mr
@Aramis-bq6mr 10 лет назад
MrSinfold so you object to people being called "sniveling crybabies", a sentiment i disagree with by the way, yet you'll lump all the military together? people like myself and the gentleman commenting above me have our own reasons for doing things, and you may or may not understand them, but thats your call. you have issues with the military? also your deal, but dont shit on us for it.
@mal9838
@mal9838 10 лет назад
MrSinfold I did 8 years in the Army myself. As well in a tour in Iraq. I don't see myself as above anyone else. I even tell people not to thank me for my service. You have no idea what it's like not being there. Maybe we did fight for oil too, who knows? That is not the focal point here. The point is that the common soldier does not fight for those things. We fight oppression and terrorism.Maybe the government has other plans...Yet again...Who knows? To judge the many honorable soldiers according to the government's standards of war is not fair. You are free to state your own opinion on government, but don't blame the troops. We all have our burdens to bear or our crosses to carry, none is greater than the other. I just find your hate towards the military doing their jobs rather appalling. We have lost some good people over there, Americans and Iraqi/Afghani civilians alike. One of whom was one of my best friends. To disrespect their sacrifices and the toll it has taken mentally and emotionally on their families or their brothers and sisters in arms is an atrocious attack on every person who tries to do good in this world. So, the TLDR version of this is...Hate the war if you want, hate the government if you want, but don't hate the troops who are trying to do good.

Kyle, you, me and countless others. Between we volunteers, draftees and those who've stayed behind to keep the home fires burning. Many, many are a special breed. Despite the physical and emotional scars, the nightmares, the damage to my family, I would be just as honored to serve and do it all again. I gladly fought, though a foolhardy sentiment, in hopes my children wouldn't have to. I went and fought in hopea of keeping it in their backyard versus our own. God bless America. God bless our vets, and especially God bless the spouses, significant others, children and parents who in every generation have stayed behind and supported our fighting men and women. For our forgotten Vietnam veterans... Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Most importantly, albeit before my time, WELCOME HOME! So many of you paved the way for us. You went and fought your hearts out in a politically hamstrung campaign. Many I have met by happenstance, some in my family... Vietnam vets, against unfavorable odds and in spite of the politics surrounding it kicked ass in many ways. WW I, WW II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Afghanistan, Iraq... Millions of young men and women will never be the same. Where we go one, we go all!

+mars8808 Soldiers are brave. But shouldn't they know why the war is even underway? Sure the Middle East hates any European or American nation. But isn't it true that a large part of it is also American support for Israel? The Muslims have a beef with Israel. They'd have hated America/Europe from their own homes & you'd be safe in yours while they duke it out there. Even before & after 9/11, the Muslims have been warning not to help their enemy. But you not only helped their enemy but took it upon yourself to land into their home turf & fight on the behalf of Israel. Didn't the Founding Fathers warn about getting involved in foreign wars? Seems like some of our folks like Israel more than the wise words of our the Founding Fathers enough to sacrifice the lives of thousands of their own brothers in a war for a foreign country's interests. I know soldiers can't choose their wars- but they can be honest about it. And the truth of it is that we are fighting Israel's war. It is none of our business. The Founding Fathers would have stayed out of it.

If I wrote my true thoughts about this war and my war 50 years ago I will undoubtedly be criticized as not being patriotic We all went off tour wars thinking we were fighting to save our country but we ended up fighting to save each other and hope we'd be the lucky one to make it home alive. What did we gain from Vietnam? What have we gained from Afghanistan and Iraq? WWll was the only war where men truly died for the cause of freedom and our nation and they were not called heroes just because they served. My heart aches every time I read the paper or see the news that another

My heart aches every time I read the paper or see the news that another young man or woman has died. It just don't have to be that way. War is hell and there is no glory in it just pain for those that fight it and for those that lose their loved one. I am convinced that if there was a Draft this war would have ended a long time ago because it would have touched everyone in this country not just the few that have Volunteered. And that is said with respect to the young men and women that do serve and to the families of those that serve and have lost their loved ones. Once I was young and full of ideals but the reality of war changed all of that. If there must be war then fight it to win and let the Generals make the decisions not the politicians. 50,000 + dead in Nam and what did we gain? What have we gained from this one other than 5000+ dead and many disabled with lost limbs, radiation illnesses from the depleted uranium shells we littered Iraq with, brain injuries that have left our Vets mentally and physically damaged and PTS. And now ISIS has come to the streets of the US. Mission Accomplished. Thank you George W.

jim monroe In the main, I agree with your thoughts. I however, would add the Korean War and Gulf War I to the side of the "just wars". Some say that we have no business fighting halfway around the world at all. I disagree when a outside aggressor attacks a country at peace

jim monroe I think sir, that if anyone has a right to criticize any war we are in it is you and your brothers in arms. You have been there; you know war and what it does to the soul, justified or otherwise.

Jim - I agree with you on Vet Nam, and Iraq. 13 years ago, there was a reason to strie Afghanistan - Al Quida (sp?) training camps. Now, we should have been back out in six weeks, but details, details....

So what? You mean to tell me that just because someone volunteered to serve in our country's military then that means they have no right to have painful experiences from during their time served or difficulty adjusting back to normal life?

Actually, the draft is still in effect from world war two. around the time we went to war with Afghanistan they drafted 2,000 civilians under that bill. but BushyX is right, soldiers go through painful experiences every day, but they shut up and soldier, I advise you to do the former.

This song is not about the politics of our country. It is about those who honor their duty to serve when called upon. I wish I could meet Marvin face to face and have him tell me that my brothers and sisters in arms died for nothing. Marvin, your just reward will come one day and sir, you will have died for nothing. By the way, did you see the NY Times today. WMDs were found in Iraq. And, now Obama's created ISIS has them. When people use words like Imperialism, I think about the Communist that teach at our Universities and who now occupy positions of power in our Government. A huge whoopass is coming to them in the very near future.

I do not deny there is a strong bias in Academia, but there are many exceptions, myself included. I am a professor at a small liberal arts college AND I got my jump wings in 1976. I served one tour with an honorable discharge. I stand and salute the flag as it passes and consider myself a patriot. It is hard enough to put up with the outdated "babykiller" and "murderer" comments from left wing nuts without being criticized by patriotic folk , so please don't lump me with them.

tim biggart Thanks for serving sir. You guys were treated horribly when you came back, I live with a Vietnam vet, who has such bad flashbacks he breaks out into a very cold sweat. And you guys were not "baby killers," if civilians really understood war, they would see it for what it is, kill or be killed, you were doing what you had to do in order to survive.

Thanks, jdoggg. In truth though, I never deployed there. We were pulling out by that time. But like you, a lot of friends and all my NCOs were Nam vets, and we were still getting hassled in stores and airports. About 8 years ago, I was sitting in the main terminal at Hartsfield (Atlanta) and a USO manger walked out into the middle of the atrium and announced that there was a troop movement coming through the airport to emplane for the Sandbox. Every man, woman and child in the terminal stood and clapped them through. White, black, Hispanic, Semitic, everyone! It was good to see.

jdoggg1119 If people really understood war they would not go when a bunch of old goats tell them to while they would never go themselves or let their kids go. What if they declared a war and nobody came on either side. The common man does not start wars.Just say no if your country is not being threatened. There is no other nation that can threaten America militarily so just stay home and defend what you have and stop bankrupting the country.This duty bullshit when you don`t agree with an illegal war is being a Nazi 1930 style.
