Dartmoors recently discovered stone circle, Sittaford Stone Circle. After over 4000 years, it was discovered only 15 years ago in 2008 by an amateur archaeologist
Great video! The stones were probably pushed over by Darwall when he found out that he couldn't buy that part of Dartmoor! Take care matey, I'm looking forward to spending time down there again soon, after I've tugged my forlock and paid all the landowners............not! Simon, Somerset.
Hi. Amazing video bringing back great memories. I live in Southampton and get virtually no chance now to get to Dartmoor but if I only get one day free, this is where I go. Last time was some 15 years ago but the route is emblazoned on my mind. Fernworthy reservoir carpark, Fermworthy stone circle, Grey Wethers, south to the beehive hut then back around the south side of the reservoir taking in the cist on the waters edge north of the dam. And like everyone else, passed completely unaware of the 'new' ancient recumbent stone circle. I really need to go back there and your video inspires me.
@@dartmoor.adventurer Really, really hope to. Retired now so with time permitting and lack of fitness (old injuries) it'll take a bit of planning. Still, having only discovered your video yesterday, I can now sit back and watch it to my hearts content. Four times so far!
Great video all round! As an estranged Dartmoor lover from Exeter, currently living in Bedfordshire, I don't get to see the place enough. Subscribed! :-) Cheers
Another great video! I love the way you captured the light as the sun was breaking through the clouds during the day. You're tempting me to take a walk out that way soon 😊! I was up at the Beardown Tors yesterday and did the Lydford, Devils, Rough and Crow Tors loop, stopping to see the wonderful Beardown Man whilst at Devils Tor. So fab to see your drone footage too and what a great way to end your day with a stop at the Warren Hill House. Perfect! Cheers Pete
Always a great way to finish a great walk with a drink, especially at the Warren House Inn 😋 I haven’t been up around Beardown Tors for a while, think I might plan my next trip around that area soon. Thank you Pete for your lovely comments 😁
Wished i knew about that new stone circle back in August when i visited the other two and the stone row (you'll find some drone footage of that visit on my channel) - well, next time, this coming summer 😀
@@John3.3 Yes Castlerigg. Spent Christmas day there 2001. It was amazing, a beautiful ethereal experience. I've been backa couple of times since. Never failscto impress.
Is that a causeway to the side in the aerial shot? I expect there are more, undiscovered like this, I discovered that I can dowse and the energy that these stones radiate is very interesting, every one is placed on an energy spot. They're also in 9's or multiples of 9. They people who built them definitely knew something we have forgotten.
Yes, I imagine there’s so many more to be discovered yet. The dowsing sounds really interesting, I wish there was more information for the reasons why these circles were there. It’s not a causeway next to this circle, although it’s relatively easy to get to
HI. Watched it again and the wife came in to see what the noise was. (sighing of distant memories. Ha-ha) These stones inspired me years ago and the Boss said 'don't be shy, tell him about the books'. So here goes. Over the years I've penned a series of books set in Neolithic southern England. Historical fiction with a modern twist, so I'm re-living old trips to ancient sites like Avebury vicariously through the protagonist in my writings. I hate to think this is a blatant plug. Just want you to know I'm sincere.
Wow, that sounds really interesting Terry. I would love to be a writer, but my grammar is terrible 😂 and my memory is dreadful, I forget most of what I research. Averbury is an incredible place. I ran an ultra marathon there a few years ago, 100k (62 miles) non-stop from Lewknor along the Ridgeway to Avebury. Finished when it was dark so went back the following morning to have a look, wow, what an amazing place that is. What a great way to re-live your experiences, through writing about it. I re-live my through my videos 😊 I hope you get a chance to visit Dartmoor again soon 😁
Hi Rebecca, thank you very much for subscribing. Unfortunately, the purpose of the stone rows or stone circles etc isn’t known, there’s many theories, but no known evidence. Imagine if you could travel back in time to see what they were actually used for, that would be awesome ☺️
The stone circile with all the stones laying flat reminds me a little bit of Arbor Low stone circle in the peak district. It looks like the stones have been sinking into the ground, and the ground level has gradually increased from the moss and grasses dying and decomposing over the last 4 thousand years. Maybe some of that soil/peat can be dug out so the stones are more visible, and I'm sure there will be some interesting finds in the process.
Yes, you’re right, some of the stones have sunk. At first, I thought they were missing but then noticed them under the pools of water and ice. I really hope they are restored one day, will be so good to see 😁
It's always interesting to see from above. Hopefully someone will record it with a drone sometime and you'll get to see it. If I lived nearby, I would have filmed it for you 😉
Great video. Looking forward to watching more. Hope you are well. Can I ask how you were able to fly your drone? I was under the impression that drones were banned? Do not worry, I’m not from any authority or as Simon made a similar comment I have no allegiance to the Darrell’s 😂😂, far from it in fact as I am however a fairly new wildcamper. I did also participate in the smaller camping ban protect gathering in December 2022.
Hi Andy, thank you for your kind comment 😊 Regards the drone . . . I usually always stick to the rules. But I feel the rules for flying drones are unfair. From what I understand, the bans were put in place due to inconsiderate drone users flying near people and also scaring cattle. I rarely use my done, but when I do use it, I make sure there is nobody around and also never ever use it if there is any livestock in sight. It's usually a quick flight to add to my video. As far as I'm concerned, I'm doing nothing at all wrong, it's not affecting anyone or any animals in any way 😁
Hi, thanks for the reply. Totally with you on the drone. I’m in Dorset, so don’t manage to get to Dartmoor as much as I’d like. Planned a weeks trip in September to end with a little community camp at beardown farm with another RU-vidr. I’m near the New Forest and Purbecks on southwest coast path, so get some hikes and camps in. Currently watching a lot on Dartmoor legends and ghost stories. Fascinating place, I love it down there. The December protest was when we had a sprinkling of snow, made it even more beautiful scenery. Thanks again.😊😊
Thanks Jon 😊 Yes, it does make you wonder, although I would imagine it’s possibly the weather over the 1000’s of years as it’s on high ground and very open
