I can think of only two military opponents of Great Britain who are now highly regarded. One is Napoleon, the other Erwin Rommel .A compliment to ANZAC'S indeed!!.
the ending of this song blaring behind be as I marched off the parade ground at Kapooka in my final moments as a recruit was one of the best moments of my life
Thanks for posting! I was one of the soldiers in this parade. It was a beat the retreat parade. I still chuckle at the funny wall they made from hessian :)
Well, perhaps here is a strange story to tell. After Tobruk had been retaken, Our Aussie Brothers sang "Po Kare kare-ana" in Maori to us, and in reply, the Kiwis (ANZAC, as ARE the Aussies) Sang "Waltzing Matilda" both of which were regarded as being MORE than the National Anthem of Australia, just as "Now is the Hour" and "E Hine E" (or, ' Hine E hine' {how the Song/Lullaby is titled depends upon where you come-from in NZ}) are regarded as being MORE than the National Anthem of New Zealand. Curiously, none of the 'Official Histories' record this, in either Nation. Yet it remains that I have been gifted this information by both Australians and New Zealanders who were present at that time. Kind and Respectful Regards, Uyraell, Proud grandson of an original ANZAC, NZ.
@@junkers5414 I'd no-more object to that; then if 'Po-Atarau' --'Now, is THE Hour" became New Zealand's National Anthem. ... Kind and Respectful Regards to an fellow ANZAC descendant: Uyraell, WGTN, NZ.
As a visitor to this beautiful land I say: i thought they screwed up by not picking this song as an anthem but! Now anyone can sing it any time without any feeling of formality!
I'm not one for knocking our guys, but I don;t see the slim trim fighting machine. I think a little to much beer and pizza Friday nights. But still proud of you all.
@@brassholio musicians are non combatants they fill non combat rolls .if had bothered to look in the background you would see a formation of Australian soldiers on parade . I challenge you to take your chubby legs over to them and call them fat to their faces
"Once an unemployed swagman camped by a billabong sign, under the gaze of CTV! What's that cashless welfare card you've got in ya pocket mate? No longer free and equal citizen as me? Waltzing Ceduna, waltzing Ceduna, kicking modern swagman in the guts? We'll see! And their ghosts WILL be heard ... STAND UP FOR EQUALITY!" and... before trolls bleat their shameful replies.. one my own family a royal marine arriving as pale skinned boat people 1804 - literally owing lives to local aboriginals as supply ships failed to return the following year. I cannot stand by and watch as a newly created Australian underclass evolves in broad daylight. NOT on my watch! Please research the little known side effects of toxic Cashless Welfare Cards that strip human rights, destroy credit rating/borrowing power overnight for essential loans for items like child's medical, storm repair, new tyres, asbestos removal, same income, avail prior to the Card(s) but no longer avail the part time employed, unemployed, uni student, school leaver, disabled, carer, returned service folk if toxic Card(s) ever rolled out nationwide. I heard a recorded version of Waltzing Matilda for military band decades ago up in Banff. I don't know if it was a British, Australian or Canadian Band. It was the best I had ever heard. This version is pretty weak. Somewhere there exists a top-notch military band version in some British or Australian band library that was written probably somewhere between 1900 and 1940 which is going to waste while this second rate versions are being used.
not to insult Darwin or anything I think the army command there might not have that much to do of late. nice music though. outside of the alarm caused by the June 1941 engagement between the Americans and Japanese how many post 1900 serious problems have there been there regarding invasions and such?
correction the navy here in australia actually have some more advanced weapons then america and plus they say that aussie soildiers are more adaptable due to all our desert
anakin grima Course! They descended from the most powerful empire that ever set foot on this earth, And those ideals and military ideas is what makes Australia the Naval super-power of Oceania.
+The Canadian Railfan its called "the points of war".. ..played as the colours go on or off the parade usually...comes from the old days of drum signals on the battlefield ...I believe it was played as signal to stand to arms or that the colours were in danger....................marty
