In this video, we explore a few of the mines in the historic Darwin, California area. The town of Darwin was named after Dr. Darwin French. French had led an expedition to the area in 1860 and found silver at what would become the Coso Mine. The town of Darwin was settled in 1874 after the silver was discovered there.
We start our explore by rappelling down a large vertical shaft. We found some large stopes and a very deep shaft. Next, we visited a few other shafts with interesting headframes and climbed down the sketchy ladders in one of them. After that, we drove a fun Jeep trail, where we found an adit that we explored to wind up our day. We ended up in Darwin for a few photographs of this historic mining town.
