@@thedanger8919 he was more good around the end. Daryl was sort of like Merle too at the beginning then he changed over time. Merle definitely could’ve had a similar development but it only showed when he died
@@thedanger8919 bro they were both bigoted at the beginning they are both extremely traumatized Merle also had him sell his blood cause he did more dangerous activities for money as well for them never just him think abt that truly a sad tale
Daryl trying so hard to be better and merle just hates it, but the real reason he hates it is because he wishes he could do the same but can't change his nature so lashes out at his brother, good writing.
@Arham Ishfaq because merle left the house when daryl was at young age. that is why they are arguing that 'merle left him first'. i hope you understand it now, it is not really mentioned in the shows but this is how i understood it
The realization on Merle’s face almost made me shed a tear. He didn’t knew his little brother was also being abused and left him alone. This is where Merle’s was starting to change, wish they kept him longer.
This is why merle is one of the best characters in the walking dead. Even if he acts like a d*ck to the gang, he still wants to be a brother to Darryl. Too bad he died quick but he sure died like a king
I mean after all that shit do you really think you would be talking? It’s like they squeezed every bit of love out of his nut sacks and only left the irritation.
There's an episode where Merle says something along the lines of "I don't know why I do the things I do, I'm a mystery to me" that shit fucking haunts me 😢
The saddest part about Merle is he wants to find the right path the way Daryl has, but he doesn't know how. But then he does; he frees Michonne and tries to sabotage The Governor and he gets killed for it. It's wild how similar Merle and Yondu from Guardians of the Galaxy are, two bad men who want but don't know how to be good, and when they finally do...they sacrifice themselves 😢 Michael Rooker is dope
He was also great in "Cliffhanger" with Sylvester Stallone. He plays a good guy who has done bad things and has an attitude like all the roles that make him famous.
See if Merle was smart, he’d start whistling and use those arrows against the walkers (Editor Tree here: HOLY SH*T that’s a LOTTA likes, thank YALL for finding this funny)
That shirt was the changing moment for Merle. He kept fighting his own thoughts, but I think this was the actual turning point. Would have been cool to see a Merle redemption arch that kept him living.
@@KapitanHazenhof Pretty sure it was because his dad abused them, Merle saw the scars on daryl’s back and realized whatever happened to him happend to darryl. explaining why he said “he did the same to u” “that’s why u left first”
We really need a walking dead what if. Imagine if Merle wasn't locked on the roof and went through with his plan where him and Daryl attempt to rob the camp
@@IsaacWilliams7582 how they haven't done it is beyond me. There are so many little decisions that completely changed the course of the series to not robbing the camp, the whisperers never forming, Rick not blowing up the bridge, and everything in-between.
@@DarkhalfBreed it really fucking sucked. He was literally sitting on the fence with his feet hanging over the side of redemption. And I loved him even even he was an asshole cause he was funny and he wasn't crazy just willing to live. Sorry but Merle was my favorite character besides axel
@@StankFrengus I know, man I loved his plan too it was a great plan but noname mcfodder happened to walk Infront of the governor then he got surprised by a walker giving the governor time to find him, it sucked dick. He actually tried to do good for once and he deserved better
Merle pissed bc Daryl didn't come back for him. Then realizes Daryl did go back. While also learning that it was him who never went back for Daryl when they were young. Sad
Guy who played Merle, always a fantastic actor Legit, he doesn't even change his accent in most roles lmfao he just acts and it works This for me is like watching Guardians of the Galaxy before he turned blue Fantastic
i might be wrong, but i really loved this version of daryl. He could speak and not mumble, he actually talked to people. And saved people instead of killing everyone.
Daryl changed from trauma and said a lot less words as a result. His lines become shorter and more direct almost like he isn’t thinking of anything anymore except the doom of the apocalypse. I think it changes in the new show and he talks more(obviously lol, it’s his show🤣) but yeah
When Merle realizes what happened.. :( After all those years, the abuse haunts him like it happened an hour ago and now he realizes his baby brother suffered at the same hand, when he thought he was the problem most likely.
For anyone who doesn't understand why Daryl would still die for his brother even after everything that happened. You don't know what it's like having a fuckhead for a brother....
I do know what it’s like but I’m well beyond the id die for him shit that dude has done everything possible to destroy everything he contacts so cutting all ties was the only way to survive
@@bobkoroua totally understandable, but Daryl and I don't have kids and if it was in the apocalypse. If I didn't have a rick there for me I'd put alot on the line for my brother.
Merle got Daryl's shirt torn. Feel pity how he abuses him. Daryl leaves politely with his torn shirt still on. This scene really makes me feel pity for Daryl. Great acting. Love both. Love my fav Daryl more.
The scars are from their father. Merle left them because he either didnt know their dad also abused Daryl, or he hadn't started yet. Thus scene is him realizing that he just straight up abandoned Daryl and left him to be beaten.
@@yungmonk9489 Merle either didnt know that his and Daryl's father also beat Daryl, or their father hadn't started beating Daryl by the time Merle left.
@@jj_ai382 wow, you just taught me something. Ever since I was a teenager and watched this show, I always assumed Merle saw the tattoo, and I figured the tattoo was like a gang tattoo, basically Merle seeing it and thinking “my little brother joined the family gang” type deal, idk. I never even noticed the scars lol
Merle made up for it in the end, I miss his character. He really wanted to change his ways just for his brother and was willing to get dirty once again for Daryl. I'm sure he would've matured with Daryl eventually, or maybe just be an asshole with a good heart. lol
I like how Merle calls him "Sheriff Rick". As if he's a juvenile delinquent that keeps getting into trouble and is always arrested by the same cop and eventually forms a bond with him. Lmao
Merle and Shane are great examples of what character deaths are about. They’re gone. Forever. The rest live on. It’s easy to forget the characters that died a long time ago, but if you think about how things would be if some of them were alive, it gets you wondering. That’s what our survivors are thinking too. What if they were still here.
Really puts things in perspective when you think about the fact that Norman went in for the part of Merle, but they created Daryl because they liked his audition so much. This guy is literally arguing with the guy he was "supposed to be".
It's not that they loved his audition so much, it's that they loved BOTH their auditions so much they felt like they needed both of them in the show so they made Daryl.
Great acting btw. Merle looks almost crying when he realized that Daryl experienced the same childhood he escaped from but still Daryl went back to rescue him on that rooftop. He failed to protect his brother now the Governor is about to kill him and his friends.
i loved this merle. he clearly changed in this moment and realized his wrongs. if he continued to stay with the group and didnt go on a suicide mission he wouldve 100% grown to have been one of the best leaders.
I think the person they spoke of, was their father. Merle saw the scar on Daryl's back, questioned it, Daryl said "he did it to you too" saying it's "why he left" meaning they could be talking about their father before the outbreak.
Merle knew most everyone was right about him. And he knew he could never change. Not enough anyway. So he helped the only way he knew he could. And he died doing it. Miss him.
A lot of people are asking what happened at the end. When he ripped the shirt, he saw scars on Daryl's back and realized that their father had beaten Daryl the same way he had beaten Merle. It was obvious when you see the whole episode, I don't know why it's so hard to figure out in this clip. Cheers.
Cause unless you know what to look for your attention is immediately drawn to the tattoo and by the time you start to shift ur focus it's already moved on
Hardest part is Daryl is no longer that guy at the beginning. He’s fighting so hard to his Merle’s brother because he loves him but he’s changed so much that it hurts him to leave Merle behind because he has a family he can’t give up even meaning he gives up his own blood
Man this scene broke my heart. What some people go thru as children can really mess some people up. God bless those that kerp pushing forward and use their bad experience as a driving force to do good.
I loved these two characters relationship and development even more so this scene where you finally see Merle show the little compassion he has seeing what happened to his little brother
Daryl reminds me so much of my little brother Adam. He doesn't talk to me anymore. I miss him so much. He's not my real brother but I've known him since he was 5 years old. I just wish i could give him a hug.
These actors both have very very comedic voices, which makes sense they do have a lot of comedic roles in other movies/shows, but somehow they make it work for scenes like this idk how but they both deserve awards if they have gotten some already they should have more
You can feel in the actor’s delivery that Merle feels terrible about ripping Daryl’s shirt after he sees the scars. You can also tell how exposed Daryl feels, there’s a sense that they’re both fighting off tears
Absolutely love this scene, it truly shows just how far Daryl has come as a character, no longer needlessly violent or picking fights, he became a strong, supportive and reliable ally, friend and brother to not just Rick, but the group as a whole. In a way, Daryl being separated from Merle was probably the best thing that could have happened to him, as Merle was definitely a bad influence on him, Merle was holding him back and keeping Daryl from being the good man he always was deep down. Sadly Merle didn't have the support that Dayrl got, as I don't believe Merle was an evil guy, but he clearly picked up a lot of his father's less than stellar traits and abusive mannerisms, and was too stubborn to change for the better, thankfully he did go out fighting, and showed there was some good in him after all.
The character development in the first few seasons was unstoppable. Then in these later seasons it was non-existent. I swear at least a hundred different characters were introduced after season 6 that I didn’t care one ounce for.
The two of them kept the first half of the show alive. A bond you cared about, a sympathetic villain, backstory and character building all in a few scenes. This was prime WD.
Merle was too good to get killed off so early into the franchise, they should’ve brung him back as a villain or something. It’s a real shame they didn’t.
Technically they did, he was with the governor's group and even kidnapped/tortured Maggie and Glenn. His death was actually part of his redemption arc he got after his villain arc.
I bet no one noticed the mark on Daryl's back. When Merle saw it he paused and said: "I didn't know he...". Basically noticing that his dad also beat Daryl.
A rare real glimpse at merl. He could have done great things for the group if he wasn't damaged goods. Glad Daryl found a way to swim while his brother sank.
The director of guardians of galaxy said his voice was one of the main reasons he’s a good actor it comes naturally to him and it can be used for many roles it’s the same with Jon bernthal
They both done good in the end whilst one unfortunately left us Daryl has gone from strength to strength and one of my personal favourites on the show 😊😊😊
I believe he would've died to negan at the lineup. He wasn't sacred like Abraham and would be the one to rebel against negan just like Abraham. Merle was strong as hell as well just like Abe. And it would mess with daryl more so negan could break him and make him his soldier.
Remember, Merle stormed the governor and took out alot of his men before they got there. He sacrificed himself really, he may have been a tosser but he redeemed himself.
