I just remember when I was younger, I thought this song was about a half woman half shark that ate people, don’t even ask me why I thought that, my imagination was WILD
I began singing the chorus, "Oooh here she comes, watch out, shell chew you up" when I saw the cover of a TV series called "Reaper." I began singing the chorus to the cover out of nowhere because it gave me this unexplainable vibe with a taste of nostalgia.
LOVED this song, when it came out...38 years ago! The true joy I now get from it, is KNOWING that 'she' (the maneater) is now in her 60's, grew old, wrinkled, most-likely destitute and sour...all her 'currency' spent, and for the 10-years she had 'power over men', she now only has hurt-and-pain to live on from here...yep, knew the kind well 4-decades ago...and knowing I came out better than their games...well, that just makes me smile, now-and-then.
I used to dread walking past my previous neighbour’s flat door some evenings. Previously I had no problem when it was him and his fellow flat mate, both of them, two easy going guys, no problem! But when his flat mate moved out and his new girlfriend moved in, things changed. Then, if I walked past their door to go out or come in, I would hear her belittling him in the most horrific way. I won’t repeat here the things she used to scream at him, but it was evil! If she saw me outside, she used to say: “morning” to me, but I ignored her. As one of my friends told me: “she has a hard face”. Too right! It’s up to him what he does but I hope one day he wakes up to see her for the abuser she is.
When I was 5, I was singing the line from this song, "Oh-oh, here she comes, watch out boy she'll chew you up." I sang it over and over again and my three year old little sister screamed viciously, "I'LL CHEW YOU UP!"
Philly’s soft rock and roll hits different! It just sounds SOOOOO soulful. That saxophone gives me smooth jazz vibes, and those vocals sound so R&B! Perfectly blended!!! This song never get old! I love Hall & Oats! ♥️🎷🥁🎼💃🏽🕺🏻
0:47 She'll only come out at night The lean and hungry type Nothing is new, I've seen her here before Watching and waiting Ooh, she's sitting with you but her eyes are on the door So many have paid to see What you think you're getting for free The woman is wild, a she-cat tamed by the purr of a Jaguar Money's the matter If you're in it for love You ain't gonna get too far Watch out boy she'll chew you up (Oh here she comes) She's a maneater (Oh here she comes) Watch out boy she'll chew you up (Oh here she comes) She's a maneater I wouldn't if I were you I know what she can do She's deadly man, she could really rip your world apart Mind over matter Ooh, the beauty is there but a beast is in the heart Watch out boy she'll chew you up (Oh here she comes) She's a maneater (Oh here she comes) Watch out boy she'll chew you up (Oh here she comes) She's a maneater Ooh, Oh here she comes Here she comes Watch out boy she'll chew you up Whoa here she comes (Watch out) She's a maneater Oh here she comes (She's a maneater) Ooh, she'll chew you up (Oh here she comes) Here she comes, she's a maneater (Oh here she comes) (Watch out) She'll only come out at night, ooh (Oh here she comes) Here she comes She's a maneater (Oh here she comes) (She's a maneater) The woman is wild ooh (Oh here she comes) Here she comes Watch out boy, watch out boy (Oh here she comes) Oh, watch out, watch out, watch out, watch out (Oh here she's comes) Yeah yeah she's a maneater (Oh here she comes) (She's a maneater) She's watching and waiting ooh (Oh here she comes) Oh she's a maneater🎤🎶
Thanks for the actual lyrics, the very first line here " she only comes out at nights?" And" the beast is in her hall" ? And the "gettin for free " what a terrible job by lines up my face. The whole point of writing lyrics out is to be exact. Obviously, they can be hard to hear correctly.
Man this brings back memories late 1982 17 years old and me and my friend and his mate decided to go a 4 day road trip up North and he played this cassette on his Stereo in his Hillman Hunter all the way there and back. I hated it at the time and when I hear a song from it now I get transported back to 82 sleeping in the car because the wind had blown our tent down and they were asleep in the front with their seats down pinning me down in the back. I can remember that my mates friend him and I never clicked and didnt speak a word to each other whole trip. it was awkward but I miss you John and your good taste in music.
"I don't know what Oates does for Hall and Oates, but Daryl Hall ain't never had a hit without him. And neither has Oates had a hit without Hall." - Chris Rock on considering the importance of playing tamberine with sincere enthusiasm.
lol. 😆 FYI, Oates did/does the bulk of the songwriting & production work, especially back in the 80s & 90s, when Hall seemed to be perpetually high on coke & more. 🙄
Yep good road trip song remember back a few years ago driving across the state in a 97 powerstroke at about 3oclock and this song came on. For some reason the memory of that has stuck with me.
Been listening this song for 20 years and it brings me back to my teen years for some reason. This type of music just put me in a trance....and it was released before I was even born. Very strange. Great instrumentals.
Luv this jam, reminds me when my neighbor Hood guys would sing that jam to me, I was only 14 but was already dressing in style of the 80"s. The fashion statement back then was the BEST! Lady of the 80"s I will always BE!
I used to hear it on the radio, and eve since Kings Island built Mystic Timbers, i always sing it when I get there. 😂😂😂 I’m always singing this song every day
this was one of the songs i heard on the school bus in 7th grade like. idk how old it is, but like 40 years after it came out, and it rocked my absolute shit
Funny thing, I was visiting my grandmother’s house the other day, my mother and grandparents were talking in the kitchen, and my little sister was in a bedroom playing. My grandfather saw my little sister coming down the hall and said “Oh, here she comes”, and my mother and I both started singing “O-oh here she comes, watch out boy, she’ll chew you up!”, my grandmother cracked up and was amazed that I like the music my mother grew up with. I mean, when the music of this generation is pop and rap, I kind of have to look back in time to find ANY sort of quality music.
Back in these days they didn't have a clinical term for a woman/man that this song portrays.. they're called narcissists.. I was with a maneater/narcissist and didn't even know it... love this song
My dad and ma have been singing the chorus for years (as have I really) And here I am all those years later Enjoying this jazzy rock tune Private Eyes is great too.
I remember listening to this on Gta iv car radio I came to listen to it again , trying to feel what i once felt as an innocent little boy , before going through life.
there's a list of songs i love and that i've been listening to for decades that i don't really know all the words to. before i looked at this video this song was one of them. pretty much every time i do find out the words to one of those songs, i'm disappointed. not this time. that's just a masterful piece of songwriting all the way around. thanks for putting this up
Royce 5'9 sample. I forget what song I think it's "We Live" made me crazy when I heard this original on the radio. Love finding stuff like this. What a gem.
