When this came out I was dieing from stage 4 Breast Cancer..Now I'm celebrating 70th Birthday Season 2021. God Said Ni Can Do..Thanking Almighty God fir not just Salvation life Everlasting
Daryll said that when they where making "we are the world" MJ came over to him and told Daryll that his bass line from "I can't go for that" inspired his Iconic bass line to ",Billy Jean". Can you imagine that!!! That's one hell of a compliment.
Lol, that's crazy because I always thought it was about something other than a romantic relationship. I always loved it, but didn't consider it about a relationship.
False. According to Daryl, who wrote it, this is his "Anti-Road" song, written when they were out touring literally non-stop from 1980 through 1985. No Can Do was their anti-establishment song.
Speaking about the meaning of the lyrics, John Oates has stated that while many listeners may assume the lyrics are about a relationship, in reality, the song, "is about the music business. That song is really about not being pushed around by big labels, managers, and agents and being told what to do, and being true to yourself creatively." This was done intentionally, he explained, to universalize the topic
The quintessential 80s song. It was the greatest decade for music! Blue-Eyed Soul made sure they made their mark on it! Absolutely love Hall and Oates!🙌🏾💕💯
I just discovered today this song is not about a relationship with a woman. It’s about their relationship to music industry and how people will bully you if you allow them to make you sacrifice your creativity. How cool is that?! I’m so glad my father raised me on this music.
Listen to this at nightime in your car while crossing a bridge in a major east coast city while looking at the skyline. Thats the coolest you will ever be.
@@terucks Yes. Also listen to "Maneater" and then listen to "My World Is Empty Without You" by The Supremes. You saw how Motown was a major influence on them, as seen in the Behind The Music Documentary. So many amazing Blue Eyed Soul Singers, Len Barry, Karen Young, and Vickie Sue Robinson.
I read that the song Billy Jean was actually created when Michael Jackson was reading a newspaper about a lady who is pregnant maybe it was a man that was denying her
I'd be honored if some late 70s/early 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of WHAT A FOOL BELIEVES by Michael McDonald, SEPTEMBER by Earth Wind & Fire, and YOU'RE THE ONLY WOMAN by Ambrosia on my YT channel in tribute to the masters of the era. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.
Michael Jackson: Hall & Oates Said He Admitted He Stole ‘Billie Jean’ From Them. Hall told Rolling Stone that Jackson admitted to stealing from him. He remembered Jackson saying “I hope you don’t mind. I stole the groove from ‘I Can’t Go for That’ for my song ‘Billie Jean.’” Hall didn’t seem upset about this. He told Jackson “It’s all right, man, I just ripped the bassline off, so can you!” Hall didn’t say which song inspired the bassline of “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do).” Furthermore, he told Jackson “Oh Michael, what do I care? You did it very differently.’” All legends!
I was commenting on his use of the English language. P.S. you do realize that fake/scam accounts paste random (and sometimes complimentary) comments to avoid being flagged as abusive right??? or is this the first time you're hearing that???
Fun fact: during recording of "We Are The World" Michael Jackson told Hall and Oates he was sorry for "stealing" the bass line from this for Billie Jean. And they were like "Um, dude, no you didn't." And I suppose if you try hard you can kinda hear it, but Billie Jean is slower and maudlin. It just shows what a different time that was. Greatness inspiring greatness.
Yes. I know that. Remember the interview in which MJ said that he heard these beats and Chords in his head and then recorded it on a tape and later made his instrumentalist record it. And Martin Bashit asked him "where did it come from?" MJ smiled and said "From above"
Yes...surpringsly, if you listen close, u can hear Billie Jean in there. Like someone said earlier, the tempo is just different.. And mixed just enough to throw u off, but it's there.
Best decade of my whole life, and being a teenager throughout them was even more fun. I was also at an age where I could go to Nightclubs and dance away to their songs. A magical time of my life I wish never ended...
Yeah, man, I don’t know much about these guys, and this is the only song I’ve heard of them so far as I just discovered them, but it seems like they were really on point.
1985 . . . 18 years old . . . I bought a short suit jacket with big shoulder pads . . . pulled up the sleeves . . . dark black shades . . . I was so cool. For about 6 months. Hahaha. I miss those days.
We're now in 2020, and this classic is simply getting better and better as time goes on. Edit: 2020 is simply getting worse and worse as time goes on!!!! Hope you're all enjoying the music and staying safe.
Jamming to this in August 2020 - I can’t go for that Covid-19, no can do! Praying for the healing of our world. Bring us together God, we need each other. Love heals all things. 😘❤️🙏🏾
No, very few have sampled or covered this song, and for good reason: Why? There's nothing anyone can do with it to make it "better", nor would there be any point in doing it "different". One on One is just one of those very rare songs that is so good, as is, that people had the good sense to leave it alone and enjoy. I Can't Go For That is definitely one of the most sampled and/or covered pop songs - White Christmas holds that record.
With all due respect to Prince, this intro may be the funkiest groove ever. I'm a hard/classic rock guy at heart, but these guys had it going on. When I die, I want to be reincarnated as John Oates mustache.
Actually, I'm pretty sure that when you look up "funkiest intro ever," Stevie Wonder's Superstition appears, and I'm also pretty sure Prince is the one who decided that.
Man I just realized how many bangers Hall & Oates have after going on a bingelisten... Rich girl Private eyes Out of touch Maneater Sara smiles You make my dreams She’s gone I can’t go for that and so on
Que hermosa rola de los años 80's I Can't Go For That, de Daryl Hall & John Oates, y hoy en día en agosto 29 de 2024 la sigo oyendo como en aquellos tiempos, como si fuera ayer..!! Esta sí es música de verdad..!! Excelente video..!!

@@jj____2729 Much respect to Michael McDonald. From the Doobie Bros, going solo, to collaborations with Patti Labelle and James Ingram, he's earned a place in the Hall of Fame.
I'd be honored if some Hall & Oates fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of SEPTEMBER by Earth Wind & Fire and HEART TO HEART by Kenny Loggins & Michael McDonald on my channel in tribute to the masters of late 70s/early 80s groove. Live acoustic with no digital editing. Thanks and peace.
