Daryl Hall with Queen Latifah, The Roots, and DJ Jazzy Jeff - "Rich Girl"/"Sara Smile" "Wawa Welcome America Concert" - Live in Philadelphia - July 4, 2012 (6ABC WPVI-TV Philadelphia)
So agree - the music of Hall and Oates is a part of my life like no other. Songs from the 70's sounding like new 50 years later. When music is gold from the beginning is shines on forever.
He was hot then, but his flame has died and I’m in my 60s so remember him also! He needs his partner. Why is he always absent? Why does he always have to show off solo with out oats?
Oh he's stronger. Go review the earlier days and you'll hear his voice struggling a tad. Now he easily brings out his inner soul man with so much glory.🎉
Name ANY other artist that maintained his/her top-notch voice into his 60's like Daryl did. He is amazing. And I'm not even mentioning his talent as a song writer. When I become the US president he will be my first guest to the White House (with John Oats, of course)...
I love the way Daryl takes his old tunes and takes it to another place. I've been watching Live at Daryl's House since its conception and I never, ever get bored. Love you Daryl, always.
When he started singing Rich Girl I was struck with the idea that that's how he'd write the song now that he's got 30+ years more experience and knowledge.
I hate when he takes his old tunes and ‘takes it to another place’. Actually, it’s more that I just don’t like the Way he ‘takes’ his songs. I’ve liked other musicians who’ve; after 30-40 years of a song, have done something fresh and unique to the song...but it’s obviously been a thoughtful, considered writing and arranging process whereby the result is very appealing - to everyone, btw (audience response is the clue). It seems like Daryl just goes with the flow which doesn’t seem respectful to his audience, and; like I said somewhere around here, it feels indulgent of him as well as cheap. I’d be okay with him doing some free-styling at the end of the show, maybe. But to continuously over-vocalize the hits we/I pay to hear; I’d rather not attend. Now if he would have shown artistry by putting effort into ‘changing it a little here’ or arranging it slightly differently where it’s fresh and polished; I could probably dig that. I guess he’s just not my cuppa as I once thought he was.
@@catherinefitzpatrick9144 aw stop it most of the iconic artist does this during a live performance thats why they are artists they would get bored as hell singing a song the same way all the time thats what makes them great why dont u just listen to todays watered down talent over prerecorded tracks and lypsincs
So true . . . Live at Daryls House shows the expanse of his talent. He might not get the spotlight, BUT will always get the sixth man award like in bball.
This was brilliant. I've loved Darryl since I was such a little girl. And Latifah looked like she felt like silk and smelled like shea butter, sweet coconuts and perfectly riped pineapples and mangoes. This whole vibe was 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I agree. So many people don’t realize what a wonderful voice she has. You should watch the vid of and Tony Bennett singing a song from the great American Songbook.
🤣🤣🤣 this Comment was so on the money 🙏🏽 I was thinking the same thing but couldn't find the words but you did 🤣 she most definitely smelled of Cocobutter
70’s music was and still is the best ever!! Daryl Hall and his band were amazing with greatest hit songs ever!! 70’s were the best times of my life! I remember every one of these amazing songs. Great memories of me and my boyfriend at age 16 and married at age 22!!! Great times!!💖💕💫. 8-31-24
truly shows that music breaks ALL barriers......who woulda thought roots, queen L and Mr Hall would be doin this together? I love music for many reasons, but my favorite reason is there is no color, no racial stereotypes, no stupid profiles......its straight-up talent and love of music.
Daryl Hall is amazing.. I like Hall and Oates in the day.. but all these later shows and live from Daryl's house, he really shines through as a brilliant musician..
Daryl Hall is one of those rare performers who is timeless, that God given voice of his is still in tact after decades of singing, look at how youthful he looks and he is in his 60s
I love this song, I will always remember the heartless ex boyfriend I had who said he hated Hall and Oates (you have to be heartless to hate Hall and Oates) and after we broke up he owed me 300 dollars and I drove to meet him to get it and when I drove away I turned up the volume on my radio and I happened to my Hall and Oates CD on and this song came on at the most opportune time :)
This man really wrote some serious tunes .. and still is able to perform them to a level many kids today trying too hard will never achieve, not even a rack of electronic aids will help them as they just lack the spirit and soul this guy pours into his performances. I keep saying it, but is it is not and never was about being (pitch) perfect..
Daryl is the most amazing soul singer. He mesmerized me first with "Sara Smile" like everyone else. I can't get enough of his deep felt singing. I have followed Daryl's House and You Tube videos of him and guests and his renovation series as a fan. Keep playing and singing your special style and amazing voice forever!
The music is timeless. I do not believe it is possible for any man that good looking get even better looking with age. Hall and Oates have been my favorite group since I was 13. I won thier album Abandoned Luncheonette . Wore the album out playing the record. Always Hall & Oates pay tribute to so many groups like the Skylights and more. Never gonna stop loving thier music and talent.
Daryl Hall is amazing. He wrote & sung some incredible songs. I love the "live concerts" from Daryl's house. Questlove on drums & Paul Pesco on guitar = 2-killer's. Sara Smile is a timeless classic. oNe LovE from NYC
When I moved to FL in 2002 -- I was amazed to hear teenagers calling the local radio station and request Hall and Oates. The young'uns had discovered the greatness of the duo.
An excellent singer of all time!!! Hope to have him around for much longer.... it will be hard to find someone that can actually sing the way he does. He just have the ability to touch you in such a good way thru his music.
Very best cover of Sara Smile I have ever heard. A gorgeous, soulful version of a beautifully written song! I could, and have, listened to it over and over again.
Paul Pescoe is an excellent complement to Daryl since Tommy Wolk passed, and John Oates does his own thing these days. Still Daryl hasn’t lost much, if anything. The Philly Sound lives on, despite the loss of Joe Tarsia.
Those words come from allot of hurt. That's why Daryl sounds so real. This huge amount of soul comes from his deep core. Daryl is a National Treasure. Kids, take notes as this what a musical genius sounds like.
I had the pleasure of seeing H & O play 3x in the last 7 yrs. As passionate a fan as they could ever have. I've def noticed they rarely stick with the same song arrangement from one tour to the next. They are a wonderful band and have turned kinda jazzy with their new renditions of old hits. I cannot speak for them nor do I know them personally, but T-bone's death must still sting badly, I love H & O and I love the "Live from Daryl's house"
No matter the year, no matter the age, the power of music is still magical to this day! I'm a lover of tunes, I'm a lover of soul, I say: *Let's Party And Let The Good Times Roll!!!* because both Earthside and Heavenside t'is true... *LEGENDS NEVER FADE AWAY!!!* ~ we all know that's the truth. As ruggedly handsome as Daryl Hall, Patrick Swayze, Sam Elliott, were, are and forever will be, To those you still feel the tingle up and down their spine, *Simply Let It Happen!, Just Let It Be, Baby!!!* ~Rockin Matt...I love everybody and they love me!
This man truly has the most incredible voice that has never changed , and D Sara smile is definitely one of his songs that make the hair stand up on your neck, absolutely perfection , thank you mr hall
Paul Pesci makes every song better than the original. Dude finds the magic ‘note’ in every song he plays. You don’t learn that. Kudos and well done. Can’t believe I JUST found this!! Thanks Paul et al!!!!
it's true that at 65 daryl has lost some of the edge of his blade.. but please consider two things: first of all his blade is slightly dulled after slaying the entire world about a thousand times over... and most importantly he wrote that shit that never dulls.
Man I love how this guy Daryl hall always ad lives the end of his songs. It's always a different feel catered to the audience. A true showman. This rendition was very soulful you can tell by the way the brother started dancing with his lady around the end. Hall and Oates now and forever.
Such a great show! We were quite far away, lying in the grass rather than standing behind tall people in clouds of cigarette smoke, but I'm so glad I went. Daryl Hall was the best choice!
The man right cheer!! Smooth as butter and like fine 🍷 gets better with age!! I love me some D.Hall Magic baby a pro..and the libra peace maker soul shaker this 1✨ the Man Daryl..💖✨🔥💯
The beauty of live music is the raw feel of actually being there. The funk and jive that comes across weird to viewers has to do with the vibe of the venue. When you're THERE, you're in it 110%. Daryl Hall gets funky and jives and you're all over it. Try to watch it sterile later on and it doesn't feel quite the same. This is where real bands show their chops -- they are amazing LIVE. This is amazing, and if you can't feel the funky, then sadly, it may have eluded you. Go feel the funky
They did an awesome job. I wasn't so happy with Rich Girl. It amazes me that people make comments like " He's so freaking old" then make bad comments. What the freak did you kids expect 30 years later? He is still just short of an Icon. Get the status that he has without selling your soul to Satan then make shit comments.
He looks great for 60. I want to see all of u at that age who criticized him and we'll compare come back when you're 60 and do a video oh that's right you're not famous or rich or talented
It amazes me when people say that .Like people get blamed for getting older It's absurd but that's human nature. In the meantime the guy looks and sounds great for a guy half his age
Hall and Oates has always been my fave. I love the Queen too. She is a terrific actress. I love The Equalizer. ❤️ for her as a singer and rapper too. Ladies First.
It seems her mic wasn't working (listen when she first comes out and there's no sound) and she was trying to adjust her levels by reaching for the mic on her back. It didn't work, so she just cut the set short and left the stage.
No matter, she did not even know the words. Clearly not her genre...not sure why anyone felt the need to try to make this more contemporary by having a rap/hip hop artist be a part.
Hi Bruce! I found out that the "hot Indian bass player" is not Indian at all! He is half Korean (mother) and half Sicilian. He is 52 years old, and used to play for Madonna back in the 80's. By all accounts, is also very happily married... Mazel Tov!
