Today's video features the song "Das ist Berlin" (Lit. That's Berlin) which was originally featured in the 1938 movie "Es leuchten die Sterne" (The stars are shining) - in which many popular stars of the day made cameo appearances. The music by Leo Leux featured songs such as "Es leuchten die Stern", "Haben Sie den neuen Hut von Fräulein Molly schon gesehen?" and "Das ist Berlin", which became a very popular song (well-known to this day). While many versions can be found on RU-vid, the one recorded by Barnabas von Géczy and his orchestra has not yet been presented.
The video features scenes from Berlin in the 1930s. This footage was restored, stabilized and upscaled to 60fps and a 4K resolution. For entertainment purposes the footage has been colorized - in no way is this colorization 100% accurate yet it makes the city come to life and less abstract. Originally made for a feature length movie about Berlin the sequences were heavily edited and present the city as a vibrant metropolis far removed from the political realities of the late 1930s.
The picture of Barnabas von Géczy and his son was published in "Hier Berlin".

The 78rpm recording was transferred using the Graham Slee Revelation M phono preamp in combination with the ReK-O-Kut Dehisser. The settings for the Preamp are : Mono with Bass Turnover set at 250 Hz - Roll-Off Flat. On the Rek-O-Kut Dehisser a Lo-Cut filter was applied at 40hz to reduce rumble. Further editing was done in Adobe Audition.
