There's a really good video named "Dramatic video shows 47-car pile-up near Oak Grove." It's a trucker and his wife in the cab, recording the sounds and impacts of a pile-up. He was a smart driver and stopped in time, but he got caught in the middle and had to sit there while truck after truck and car after car slammed into him and the pile. The sounds and impacts he and his wife endured were terrifying. She was scared, understandably so, and wanted to bail out. He told her no, stay put. There was nothing they could do but stay in the safety of the cab and get pummeled. They weren't seriously hurt as far as I know. It's a good lesson for all drivers to see and hear what they went through.

That was a great example of how people regard death or serious injuries on the roadways now. Clearly the trucks that continued barrelling through the crash site were reckless, my guess is that they didn’t want to touch the brakes because they could see that they would skid, the cabs of these semi’s are so cushy and comfortable that the drivers feel so safe and invincible in them! Slow down for nothing, time is money, that’s the mentality of many drivers today. I guess the time has come that rolling speed control by highway patrol vehicles, are necessary in bad weather!

They're not trying to usher in autonomous trucks because of drivers like this. They're doing it because it removes the need for a human driver, that gets tired and has to stop and rest for 10 hours. Look at all the regulations and turn over rate they won't have to worry about anymore with a load that can go from A to B without stopping for anything other than to get fuel. And there's no driver or drivers to pay.

The idea of autonamous trucks is a very dangerous idea. I worked with robotics for years as a electro mechanical technician and robots fail all the time. Sensors fail and software fails. No, but many are near Shi'ited. One day CDL schools, no winter driving experience, bad companies with bad scheduling, government mandated working hours, flip flops and automatics. Combine all of those things, with the most basic tool available to avoid those situations being banned by some companies, and you get this. A lot of this. That basic tool should not only not be forbidden, but it should be mandatory and required in every truck on the road. That tool is a citizen's band radio, or CB. If the very first truck in that mess started shouting "Southbound, back 'er down! Back 'er down, big pileup at the 144!", and got the message out, the accident would involve not only fewer commercial vehicles, but by default fewer cars as they noted the trucks around them slowing considerably even if for reasons unknown.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that drivers would be driving too fast and following too close in these snowy, icy road conditions. But, that's exactly how they drive with dry and perfect road conditions too.

I recently was on holiday in the US (visiting from the UK) and with a friend drove down from Pennsylvania to Tennessee (about 600 miles). What really shocked me was that truck/lorrys are allowed to go at the same speed as cars. In the UK trucks are restricted to 60mph on freeways and if there are three lanes trucks are not permitted to use the outside lane - seeing trucks steaming up behind me took quite some getting used to!

Few of those truck drivers need their CDL revoked for life!! Absolutely no excuse for driving that fast through that accident scene! Truck drivers these days are mostly just mere steering wheel holders that think 80,000 pounds plus handles like a over-grown pickup truck.

You people talking about visibility should get your eyes checked... first off no fog you can see an easy mile... but the vision you guys speak of must be depth perception.. most of these new drivers hold a wheel looking at 10ft in front of hood.. just like 4 wheelers.. thats first.mistake.. second I bet the cop had flashing lights why before this scene in left lane and trucks still passing him up. They get the old road hypnosis syndrome and stsre at windshield until they recognize cars in ditch debri in road and still don't put 2 n 2 together until the trialer is sideways in front of him. And again no cb clearly the opposite side of highwaY trucks and cars rolling right along can't give a mile marker and info on wreck miles ahead of them.... thats the problem with today's drivers... headsets foot up in dash satellite radio and GPS maps. And can't drive for nothing.. been driving before cdls came out... so yeah I can say anything I want cause I have the experience to compare yesterday n today like some of the other old guys out

That Schneider truck, flying on icy conditions. Must be a driver who is around 22 years of age, since most of them are the causes of wrecks. Still can not believe idiots will drive fast on icy roads, then cry when they wreck.
