I am looking for an alternative use for this DashCam but today's test was very disappointing. The colours seemed very washed out in the video I did today so I thought it would be a good idea to go through the settings.

There seems to be 2 ways but understand it is INFRARED so you cannot see the LEDs are on with the naked eye. If you look through another camera or your smart phone you will be able to see they have come on because digital cameras can see infrared.
The quickest and simplest is to briefly press the on/off button and it switches between day and night mode.
The other way is from the menu. I had hoped the menu method would set it to come on every time you switch the camera on but it does not remember the setting and you have to manually do it each time so there is no benefit using this method.
At around 03:43 I show the setup screen and you see LED as an option. Select that to switch on the LED.

I bought this model and had it fitted by an auto electrician, I didn't realise that it needed an SD card until now, the instructions you appeared to get where far better than mine. Mine are to small to read even with a magnifying glass so your video has helped me no end to set my up which I had to do whilst it is in the car but like I said without this video I would've not been able to sort it out so thank you very much for your time and effort.

Thankyou GrandadIsAnOldMan, I have recently bought the same dashcam off ebay for $17 ($12.90 for the 16GB SD card @ Big W) and had trouble getting into the menu, your show helped me experiment with pressing the buttons... Can I suggest to all the buyers of this fair HD VCR to try pressing the "menu" and "mode" buttons at the same time... this will access the "menu mode" onto the screen... once in the menu try pressing the same two buttons to scroll through the menu pages, then press right arrow to select/scroll mode... once that is achieved use left arrow to "go back " or "right arrow" and "left arrow" together- to scroll down, "right arrow" to scroll up. I hope I didn't confuse to many readers, but I'm sure once you learn to press "menu" and "mode" together that will open up more trial and error choices... cheers. * PS: Plug into PC, put PC to sleep to start the process*

I am having trouble with this camera. When I playback footage on my computer, it's sped up a little and the camera does not automatically delete footage you didn't lock.

I can't help you there, I gave up using mine a couple of years ago, I felt the video quality was poor and I had trouble with the battery not charging.

When you plugged it into the computer what were you using ? It says windows 2000, xp and 7 etc .. I'm trying to figure out why etc means but no luck searching Google yet.

I am not sure what you are asking. I didn't plug it into a PC in this video did I? I don't remember doing that. If you mean to use it as a web cam that just depends what sort of viewing package you have to access the camera. Something like Skype or Facebook would search to see what camera you have attached to your PC.

This does not recognize my card. It is not formatting, it is not recording, or saving the choices. Any suggestions for the card?

First thing to do is check the size of your card. This particular camera only accepts 8 to 32 GB. If yours is the right size then you would need to check it's speed rating but the size is you most likely problem.

hi granpd.. is it really record 1080p wide ? i have it too but it just record 4:3 resolution and not 1080p although i have set it to 1080p

I have checked back (this video was filmed back in 2016) and I do have some 1080p video from this camera 1920x1080 however I think you will find there are lots of cameras that look like this and they are not all the same spec. This is the second of this type I had as the first had an awful sound recording problem so I had it replaced and looking at the earlier pictures there were 1280x720 but I didn't spend much time with that one as I had it replaced. This one was not much better and I certainly would not recommend them for any purpose. In later videos I took I got increasingly frustrated with it's quality and abandoned using it. When I did try to check some functions on it several months later I could not get it to charge up and so I did a disassembly video on it and left the parts in a box. Basically you get what you pay for. This was dirt cheap and it was junk.

Hi, just wondered how long is the charging cable on this, would it reach from the back window in a small car?

Sorry I don't remember which lead it came with but it is just a USB lead so you could always buy a USB extension cable if you need it to go further. Generally they supply a lead that is designed to reach from your centre console cigarette lighter across your dashboard, up the side trim of your windscreen and across to the centre of your windscreen so I would guess somewhere between 2 and 3 metres but that is just a guess.

As I bought this camera in 2016 there is no guarantee that you have bought the same item. I suggest you check the listing or even read the instructions if it has any. I certainly used a 32GB card in mine. You might find the video description interesting if you haven't already read it. I was very disappointed with the camera and soon replaced it with a different one. As usual with items purchased on eBay, if they are cheap then they probably are cheap.

FYI, the light frequency is relevant if you want to later show your captured video on a tv. You should synchronize your camera to the television -- in the USA televisions run on 6o hertz ( called NTSC), in Europe it is 50hertz ( called PAL). If the camera and Tv are out of sync, it will degrade the quality of the video with banding.

Any help please. I have one of these Dash cams I got from Walmart I was trying to turn it to get a different angle and I hit the orange button front which means to reserve or keep what we just record it so I took it out put it on the desktop and deleted everything out of it. But now when I use it I can only go maybe 10 minutes and it says it’s full and it’s not required no more what’s wrong

@@GrandadIsAnOldMan i’m 53 years old I need to have my daughter do all that stuff she’s going to be leaving soon she’s going to be turning 18 and graduating I wish there was somebody just right next-door that knew how to fix things that orange button in the front that we can see while driving that is supposed to keep what we just saw so I don’t get recorded over. And that was all an accident so I tried to delete Everything out of it

I suggest you contact your supplier. There are so many different cameras that look like this one but may not have the same specification. Of course if you also bought the cheapest sdcard you could find then you may also have been ripped off by the sdcard seller, there are plenty of junk sdcards being sold that do not work. Maybe you should try the card in something else first, maybe a compatible smartphone.

Hello, I just bought same car camcorder like yours. But I have problem for loop-recording. I set 3 minutes loop recording. But everytime I want to play the video. It only have latest video file. For example: I drive a car for 1 hour, this cam always recording, but when I checked the video, it only have the lastest 3 minutes video. Do you facing same problem like mine?

I am only guessing here as I haven't used this camera since last year. Have you got a large enough memory card. It will write over the file when it runs out of space.

3 minutes video takes around 300MB, and the free space of memory card still around 1GB. Yeah, maybe I'll try to using more than 8GB

It should be OK but it was just a thought. It sound like there is a setting you have missed in the setup but I cannot check for you as mine is in pieces as I took it apart for a video last October. Another issue might be the memory card is a fake, it is not uncommon for cheap eBay memory cards to be mis-sold factory rejects. HOWEVER I wouldn't recommend this camera to anybody. I found it very poor picture quality and when I tried to use it after leaving it for a few months the battery would not charge up. There is extra information in my video description. I only bought it because it was so cheap and now I know why it was cheap.

Lim Halim u need to use their original card , if u use different card that's y u hv that problem. It happened to our cameras and it will happen to any car camera.

You'll also get more vid time by setting the resolution to 720p instead of 1080p, since by doing so it will require less data per minute of recording; that should still be of sufficiently decent quality (depending on what you're after) for most purposes.

Hey thanks Stephen. I still would not recommend this camera to anybody. The picture quality was pretty poor and I couldn't get the colour balance right for me. I left it for a while and when I wanted to try something with it I couldn't get the battery to charge so bottom of my list for recommendations. However there are hundreds of these on eBay all look the same but many seem to have slightly different features or specifications. Of course that could just be Chinese translations varying.

Quite the opposite. Without looping it will stop recording when the memory is full and you would not know it had stopped. With looping it continues recording by overwriting the oldest files. You probably get about 2 hours of video so if your journey is 3 hours you would lose the first hour but still record the accident that happened at the end of your journey. Without loop recording you would have the first two hours and miss recording the accident. Or for shorter journeys you will have recorded last week's journeys and not recorded today's.

At 13:10 I show the "Video Time" setting which is "OFF 1Min 2Min 3Min". So I would think OFF would be continuous recording but see my other reply as to why that is NOT a good idea.

At 13:13 I show where you select the length of the clips. It shoots clips continuously but not a single long video. Generally you would not want a long video for a traffic camera. In the event of an accident, if you forget to stop recording you would lose the entire video, as it would not save it for you. Or the video runs out of space before you have finished driving.

That rather depends what you mean. Do you mean you have set the time and date and can't see it when you watch the video back? Or do you mean you can't find the setting for setting the date and time? At 5:06 I show the date input. At 12:18 I show "Time Stamp" which would enable or disable the time stamp.

Glad you enjoyed it. In the video description there is a bit more about that feature and a link to the playlist for this camera. I did do a couple of videos in that playlist specifically about the infrared as I had a few questions on it. The point about it being useless is I cannot imagine a time when you would need it to film anything from inside the car in the dark, and the range of those LEDs is only going to be a few metres max, and that is assuming the light doesn't just get reflected straight back into the lens by your windscreen.

How do I play these videos back after I capture I plugged it into my computer and it the files do not work The files are empty even there's no time on them I see one file and that was the file when the camera was continuously recording but the continuously record only last for maybe a half hour if that I'm not sure I just seen it saying memory card full so I changed it to every 5 minutes and then later on when I plugged in my computer I couldn't get the files to work please help me

Sounds to me like you have a fake memory card. The directory tells you the files are there but the memory is empty or corrupt. Try a different memory card and make sure it is the right size NOT TOO BIG. Check the specifications for the maximum size. If you go too big the files are not recorded properly.

@@shugc60yahoocom did you get it second hand? All the cameras I have bought do not come with a memory card. You always have to buy them separately. Either try a different memory card in the camera or try that card in a different camera. Or just try copying data from your computer onto the memory card and then try copying it back and checking it is all still there. I am not saying it is definitely fake, but your description of empty files follow that pattern. My camera is limited to 32GB so if you fit a 64GB card you get lost data.

@@shugc60yahoocom well same suggestion, try the card in a different camera or at least try copying files to and from it to see if it actually stores the files correctly. You need to know if the card is OK regardless of where it came from. And like I said, check the specifications for the size. If you can establish the card is OK, then you can move on to see if the camera works. If the card or the camera don't work, take them back to Walmart and get a replacement. Oh, one other point, you would never want to use a dash camera in continuous record. You want short file lengths. That way, if the camera shuts down and corrupts the file instead of saving it, you have only lost the last few minutes of recording rather than the full half an hour or whatever. With short length files, the camera would normally be set up so that when the memory is full, rather than stop recording, it starts overwriting the oldest files. SO lets say it can store 100 files, when it gets to 101 it overwrites 001 and so on.

In that case it sounds like you have a faulty camera and you need to send it back to the seller. The only other thing that comes to mind is that it is possible to put the SD card in the slot but miss the socket so it is not seated in the right place.@@nowshairmohammadmadarbok-ib9hb

That's interesting, I said it has been sitting on my desk for months, well now it doesn't want to charge up so the battery may have run down too far. I will keep trying but looks like another problem with this particular model.

Integra DIY the trouble with buying on eBay is many of the items looks the same, even have the same specification in the details, but when you get them they may not be quite what was expected and I think you get what you pay for. So if it was really cheap then it will probably not be that good. Sometimes I am lucky and get something cheap that is so good it surprises me, but other times I just wish I had spent a bit more money.

I would guess you select it from the menu but I never tried it and the camera stopped working quite a while back so I can't check it for you. I can see it on the screen around 12:00

I am afraid I can't help you. Like I said my camera stopped working quite a while ago. I did a tear down video of it and put the bits in a box. The only issue I can think of is that you may find you have no power going to your camera when you have parked your car so it has switched itself off. Of course there is every chance that if you had a cheap camera like mine some of the features may not work anyway and they sold you a fake.

Probably needs a replacement battery or a one-way trip to the rubbish bin. I don't think that is an option. The idea is it switches on as soon as you turn your ignition on, so it records all the time you are in the car. This video is now 8 years old, so unless you have bought a second hand one, yours is probably newer and may have different features, but the same applies to my current dashcam. It starts recording as soon as I turn on the ignition, and it keeps recording, even if I switch off the ignition, until I open a door and leave the car, because my car keeps the power supply going until then.

At 08:17 the setting option shows PC Cam, so I would guess that it might work if you phone has OTG capability and you can find an App to support it.

This video is over 4 years old and I doubt the camera is still available. I would suggest you just look at any online seller and compare prices to find one that meets your needs.

I would be surprised if your camera is exactly the same model as this one as this video is now 7 years old. In the video description you will find I listed the Micro SD card I used as "Samsung 32GB Micro SD Card SDHC EVO 48MB/s UHS-I Class 10 TF Memory Card". If you bought a cheap Micro SD card online, there is every chance you have been scammed as there are many fakes being sold. Best action would be to test the card somewhere else first to ensure it can be formatted and can read an write the full 32GB. @@GrandadIsAnOldMan It is the same, it was forgotten somewhere in the box! It was working before easily with the same card but now most of the time showing no sim card. And the other man on his video about this camera 🎥 says that he had the same problem with micro sd card. He put smaller one and it is ok. But really, this camera looks so old in the car now😀I have good micro sd, it’s not cheap! Anyway… Camera was of for 5~7 years, i’m nicely surprised that’s still working

@Coa_Kralj_Coa_The_King in that case it could simply be the contacts are dirty or the spring that holds the card in place is weak. Sometimes, a single layer of clear tape on the back of the card is enough to increase the pressure to make better electrical contact. Or just cleaning the contacts.

i bought one of these dash cams and the thing lights up - the LED lights light up but the screen wont open - totally useless and i bought it before christmas so no sending it back - this is the second one i have bought - both different makes - i give up now

Yes, very disappointing and when you have bought two cheap ones you wonder if you would have done better buying a more expensive one. The only trouble is that sometimes you get exactly the same item, they have just increased the price to make you think it is going to be better quality. I am tempted to buy from a local shop for something like this, even though it will be more expensive you can take it back easier.

I am glad it helped you, I still wouldn't recommend these cameras to anybody but if you can get them cheap enough I guess they give you an entry level model that you can get some experience with and decide if it is worth buying an expensive one at a later date 😊

Not sure what you expect me to do. It does not work with 128gb. If your camera is the same as this one it clearly states in the manual that it only works with 8 to 32gb. There is no 'work-around'. There are many similar looking cameras so I suggest you check your manual to see what it says. If it says 32gb then the fix is to buy a 32gb card.

If you men the SD card, that is a standard memory card like you would use in your phone or camera. You should be able to get one in a camera shop, phone shop, electrical shop, supermarket or online. Make sure you read the manual for your DashCam so you buy the right size and configuration.

I guess that depends on whether you have the identical camera. There are, or were, plenty of different branded cameras that all looked similar (This was filmed in 2016). When you say you have no infrared, how are you checking for them. You might find the information in the video description helpful.

I would contact the seller and send it back for a full refund. No point in trying to fix it if it's brand new and it's broke.

I certainly would NOT recommend this particular one. It is rubbish compared to the other one I already had. I cannot find a setting that gives a good colour result. It is rather like one of the colour sensors is not working. I should have sent it back but I decided to keep it to see if there was anything useful I could do with it but it has failed in every test I have tried. There are loads on eBay that all look the same but I would think the honest answer is you get what you pay for, these are cheap and you get cheap results. If you look in my video description there is a link to my playlist with other videos relating to this camera.

Dan Rmz I think it depends what you want it for. If you are using it as intended as a dash-cam you will find the image is probably not good enough for number plate recognition. The field of view is not very wide so you only record what is right in front of you. In one of my videos I mention that it will probably help you prove that the person in front of you reversed into you in one of those "cash for crash" scams, but many accidents involve incidents off to the side like somebody pulling out from a side road and this camera will probably miss that. Most of the other cheap cameras will have the same problem. I have seen other cameras which use 3 lenses to give a very wide field of vision to cover that sort of problem.

I just got one and is a Piece of SHOOT. The knock out I got it doesnt loop. once the freaking memory is full I have to manually reset it, it sucks.

fretraer there are dozens of these being sold by online stores and there is no way of knowing whether you are buying a good one or a junk one. The bottom line is if you are buying the cheapest then it probably is junk. Unfortunately some of those shops use reverse logic and put the prices up higher so you think you are buying better quality but it is the same junk.

There could be several reasons. 1. If you are using the charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter it may simply be loose. They often work their way out of the socket because they are spring loaded. 2. The connector plug is loose where it plugs in the camera. 3. The wires in charger lead are broken inside. Check for continuity. 4. Are you using the supplied charger or a different one? I tried using the one from the previous camera I was replacing and that would not charge this camera. 5. Has the car socket fuse blown? Is there definitely power coming from it? 6. The battery has discharged too far and the onboard circuit automatically will not allow it to be charged due to the safety issues of charging LiPos that are too low.

@@norwynclark2766 you can't find it on this one because it doesn't have that facility. It is a cheap basic camera. It does not have satellite connection so there is no way it would be able to calculate your speed.

It depends on what you use the video for. If you need it to support an insurance claim it would help if you can read number plates, but it will still enable you to show relative positions of vehicles etc. I think a rear facing camera would be a useful addition. I don't have one yet but I intend to add one.

Sorry for the extremely late reply, I have only just found this comment. You may already have found the answer. I would guess you are using a memory card that is too big. If it's capacity is too big the camera cannot read it, I think this one only takes up to 32Gb

camera: Alisena Dash Cam 1080P FHD DVR Car Driving Recorder I wanted to see the video from a recent panic stop, where I almost plowed into some douchebag who shouldn't at all be operating a motor vehicle. I see files from up to months ago, and 1 from today, but the almost-accident part is corrupted. The only explanation is that the panic stop or the volume of my cursing at the fscker caused enough g-forces to so shock the camera and/or sdcard that it could not write and save properly. Every file I don't need is fine, the exact file(s) I would need in an accident are unavailable. How convenient ! What a complete piece of sheit "camera". That's what I get for "saving money".

I think you have answered your own comment, yes, buy cheap and get cheap. Same with anything else you buy, except some eBay sellers inflate the price of their items to make them appear better quality. As for corrupted files, how often have you downloaded the files from the camera and reformatted the card. Somewhere in the instructions it probably tells you to regularly reformat the card. I did spot that on one of the cameras I had. For a long time I was boring my RU-vid viewers with regular uploads of my driving videos. That did mean that I cycled a couple of memory cards through my camera on a fairly regular basis. Oddly enough, I recently had a request for more of those videos so there are a few more of them. But I have stopped again 😆👍

Worthless piece of crap, don't buy it, buy G1W it is the best for under $50 and very easy set all functions.Very well made. I've dropped it on concrete floor in my garage, it popped open like a clam, I've closed the two parts together and the cam still works.

Certainly agree, basically you get what you pay for on eBay so if it is really cheap like this was, then you can't expect high quality. Only problem is some eBay sellers recognise people think cheap stuff will be junk so they sell the same item for a higher price and people will think it must be better quality because it costs more. Probably best to buy it from a local shop where you can take it back if it's junk. Merry Christmas 😊🎅🎄🎁🐧⛄

Spot on. I don't claim any expertise, so what you see is me trying to follow the instructions. So a genuine review by somebody who has just bought it himself and is trying to set it up. I am surprised you have the same camera, this video is 5 years old and there are much better cameras available now.
