You are easy to understand, you do not speak too fast (most of the time) and you are logically organised in your presentation. I'm 77 years old and the younger guys rattle on too fast for me to follow; I need to comprehend each point before going on to the next on and you allow me to do that. Great job.

I saw your recent review on Dashlane but you noted that you use another. I checked them both and settled on Dashlane. I love it and use it on all of my devices. The only problem I have encountered is with my Kindle Fire. The app is not in the Amazon Store. I could side-load it but I reached out to the support team for their recommendation. Outside of that, I am a happy customer and have been passing my experiences along to friends and colleagues. Thank you, as always, for you insight.

Keep fighting the fight please. Thanks for doing this, I didn't know Dashlane, I use 1Password and dashlane seems like a copy of it. A new and dangerous feature to me is the web-login to your passwords, call me paranoid but to me that means it can be hacked. Thanks for this video. Dashlane looks a nice tool and I am going to give it a try. I have been using Clipperz from a long time. Though it is not as rich as Dashlane but very secure. One question which arise with such tools is how much you can trust on them. What does their privacy policy say.
@bossman762x39

as far as last pass and dashlane they have proven they are trust worthy. they have been hacked before and within a day forced everyone to do a master password change and notified everyone about the breach and to my knowledge they did not get any information

One trick that I have used for a while when generating a password is to take a phrase, be it a song, Bible verse, or quote from a novel and then you take all the first letters of the words and include the punctuation and the capitalization. It makes for a password that looks like complete gibberish but is easier to remember as long as you can remember the phrase. For instance if you used the phrase "Steve from Dottotech is informative and passes along great information for all." it would be SfDiiapagifa. For using bible verses I also include at the beginning a reference to the book, chapter and verse so something like John 3:16 would be J3:16FGsltw and so on. Just thought I would pass that along. Keep up the great work.

Hey Steve, great review! Thanks for that! BTW, how do you compare Dashlane and 1Password interface-wise? I mean, the latter is even safer, 'cos it has a feature to lock up the application interface with the Master password. I think this is a serious drawback from Dashlane, as someone using your computer could easily have access to Dashlane interface with all your passwords available to copy & paste.
@dottotech

I've spent more time with last past and one password than- Dashlane, so I can't really compare the interfaces.

people don't understand or trust keeping all of their site and password information online under one site as that seemingly makes a single target for hackers or anyone who wants all of your information. I'm looking to use a password manager as well as with a yubikey dual authentication technique.
@david203
@david203 8 лет назад
+Cory Patton I don't know what yubikey is, but both LastPass and Dashlane, and possibly others, offer dual authentication. Read the features of each password manager you examine. If you must have yubikey, visit them to ask which PMs support them.

You're somewhat right. But using a secure master password, that you change once in a while is almost unhackable. Of course, it is possible to crack it, but very, very hard. And even if they did have it, they cannot access your account without dual-factor. for example, it would take 25 UNDECILLION YEARS to crack my master password.

Not sure what to choose. I kind of want the features that is in Lastpass. Autofill even on Android devices. The option to use fingerprint. Fast way to generate a password and so on. People have recommended me Keepass but it doesn't seem like it has those awesome features as Lastpass has. Lastpass would indeed be perfect if it wasn't for that it costs $12 a year. I have no problem even paying $50 at one point but $12 EVER YEAR? Naah, I rather look for something else but doesn't seem like there is anything close to it.
@dottotech

You will have to pay annually for pretty much any of the apps. Lastpass will be the least expensive, over time I expect.

About those weak passwords that you mention at the beginning of the video (123456, password, etc): For people that are not using password managers, i think its actually smart to use those simple passwords for the accounts that they dont care about. Without a password manager, you can only really use a small number of strong passwords before it gets impossible to remember them all. So if you create an account on a random forum or whatever, i wouldnt want to use one of my 5 "good" passwords. Chances are, that these websites have weak security and can get compromised much easier than my important accounts like amazon, google, facebook, etc. I think that a lot of the "123456"s and "password"s are actually used for those accounts that the owner doesnt care about. Not all of them of course, but i think the problem is not as big as these password statistics make it look like.
@bossman762x39
@bossman762x39 5 лет назад
this is bad advice. it is never a good idea to use a weak password. the great thing about a password manager is i can use a password like this :-YfGwt7~@cm"v'=\yA2J3kLp~(hCRbv}},c and never have to remember it and it will be random and different for every single site and if a websites security is weak then it does not matter. as for someone not using a password manager still every single password should be different. 20 websites? there should be 20 different passwords. most secure websites or important websites allow 2 factor authentication so if password was compromised there is still a layer of security there til you can change said password.

I would like my PM to be able to log into not just websites for my team, but also computer programs like the software we use for our HelpDesk and our auditing wizard etc. I'm not finding that capability on either PM, is there something I'm missing or do these managers just not function as a solution to that?

+Jacquelyn Vizcarra If you must print your passwords, bear in mind that a criminal can use these to extract most or all of your money, leaving you with months of hassle. Immediately put such a printout into a private bank deposit box or similar. It is better to backup your passwords in encrypted form. An exported encrypted file can then be backed up in multiple places, including a synchronization folder such as Dropbox. You don't have to worry about criminals acquiring a backup file, because it is encrypted by your master password, which you chose to be very long and unguessable.

Maybe a stupid question . . . but . . . I have about 12 pages of passwords (most very different for security purposes) that relate to 100's, maybe thousands of tools, online shopping destinations, apps, websites, memberships, etc.. I want to switch . . . I really do. But, what happens to all of those pre-set passwords? Does Dashlane change them and give each site a new password? Or, does it just put a buffer password in the way of the actual password you've already set. And, how do you get those passwords into the system for places it doesn't recognize - or will it catch everything? Does that make sense?
@dottotech
@dottotech 9 лет назад
Sara Cameron-Ragazzo It does, and I know there is an import feature. Perhaps ***** can comment with the best way for you to switch and let us know how they handle it.
@StrikerEureka85
@StrikerEureka85 9 лет назад
dashlane preserves passwords for all your existing accounts. but it does warn you about which of those passwords aren't secure enough. if you wished to change those passwords, you go to those websites and dashlane will suggest one for you. some of the bigger websites (amazon, twitter, etc.) actually integrate with dashlane and you can change those right from your dashlane program. dashlane generates really cryptic passwords (like → _iH9-&!;Po=_) but you don't need to worry about remembering those. the dashlane browser plugin handles login automatically for you. the only password you need to remember is your master password which allows you to see your stored accounts in the dashlane program.

Start using a PW rotation every month or even week depending on how secure you want to be. This way if there ever was a breach somehow you would have hopefully changed the PW before the hackers have messed with your account. Once I was typing a post comment on y tube and I could see for a few seconds a ghost page and then what I had typed was gone like as though one of them had intervened and deleted it. Would Dashlane Manager solve most of my problems if I used a password for each site that I browsed on? Or does my situation require some Thing different. Your password means nothing if the company has been breached PERIOD. (and they will be) So where should the security really be fixed? Online password security is all Smoke and Mirrors. The online security and business "Professionals" must provide something to make you "feel" safe, so that you will use assets that are "Less" expensive for them to manage. Your information has already been written off and you will be compensated with nothing near what you should be for the inconvenience you will endure for years to come. Software like this is about convenience and nothing more. This will not stop “man in the middle” attacks. When will Americans get smart and start charging businesses to use THEIR information? After all it’s the only thing you still own…

@currentuserjade
@currentuserjade 7 лет назад
They do NOT force you to put other characters, except for your master pass, and even in that case, it's just uppercase, lowercase, and at least 1 number. After that, Dashlane will use your own passwords, or you can opt to use a VERY secure password, that you don't have to remember, as long as you use Dashlane. If you ever uninstall Dashlane, I suggest going through and making a note of all the passwords it generated. Peace of mind with an extremely complex password being generated for all accounts is worth $3.33/month to me. I can go without that 6 inch sub for one day out of the month. If you look at it that way, it's free, and a nice trade-off.
@edwilliams2944
@edwilliams2944 5 лет назад
Dashlane is out of touch and severely lacking the ability to "save" a password set under a different name. Some institutes that support subordinate companies require you to go to their site first and you get to the sub site depending on the credentials you provide (example securelogin.synchronybank.com/ manages credit cards for Ashley Furniture, TJ Max, and other stores each of them requiring you to establish unique accounts and log in with differing log in criteria) Roboform handles this wonderfully. It MUST happen on the fly... logging out of Dashlane and back in as another identity is not acceptable. What's worse? NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!!

Well there goes 12 mins of my life i'm never getting back. This video should've been broken up into 3 different videos. 1. What is Dashlane (Which was no more informative than going to the Dashlane websites) 2. Installing Dashlane (Which should include a video of how to install Dashlane) 3. Walkthrough of the software.

I give it 6 months, a year max before it gets hacked.

dottotech Thank you for the post. I am currently considering a password manager (I currently don't use one) and I have been researching Dashlane and LastPass. I was/am leaning toward Dashlane except for the comments that I just read on PCMag.com about Dashlane. Read them at the bottom of this page: www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2461280,00.asp - I would love feedback as those comments are more recent than this post and have made me a little skeptical...

Gavin Carter I actually use LastPass as my own manager, I liked what I saw with Dashlane, but don't have a strong opinion on it. I think either will do a good job!

Holy crap, I just ditched LastPass in our offices and installed Dashlane, and you wouldn't believe HOW MUCH better it is! I am an IT in a small business office and I was getting constant calls and complaints about LastPass. I don't know who designed it but the Lastpass UI is horrendous. Plus we have to use IE 11 on Win7 machines (because of group policy restrictions) and it just plain old refuses to work on older browsers. And the Lastpass support and user forum is utterly useless. So I've been testing this Dashlane app and it logs me in automatically in 99% of the sites. With laspapss someone has to manually copy and paste passwords for like 50% of the sites. And good luck explaining it to people like your mom ... argh!!!! So, good riddance, LastPass!!!!

The reason I'm here is because I got Hao123 at the same time as this so it could be a Trojan

$40.00 PER Year?? ??? Gotta be kidding 😉

+cat W It is well worth the money if you find a password manager that is easy to use. Just imagine the hundreds of web-based accounts the average person acquires over just a few years. To have every one be completely secure, with its own individual password, provides great peace of mind. Now imagine the hassle of dealing with a website that leaks your username and password to a criminal with expertise. This could be the key to accessing many of your accounts, eventually reaching your bank, etc. Imagine the months of hassle recovering your money and your financial reputation. Easily worth $40, yet several excellent password managers are FREE.

its free for as many devices as you like but you need a premium account in order to sync across all your devices...

How is $40 just a bit more expensive than LastPass. If I would choose, Lastpass would be first because it does seem perfect and it's $12 a year.

How about Enpass? It's free except a on time payment for the mobile app.
