this video: • data recovery on ST300...
This 3TB Seagate ST3000DM001 came in with fairly common problem. One of the heads started to degrade and quickly after the drive became irresponsive. The hard drive just stopped getting recognized, and the owner contacted us for help. After the initial inspection, we've determined that in order to obtain a complete recovery this drive will need a head replacement. First, we imaged all good heads in the drive and then the head swap took place. After replacing the head assembly and performing the transfer of adaptive information the drive was able to read the remaining part that used to belong to the degraded head. Complete recovery has been achieved in this case.

Hi, you are doing an amazing work with those drives. Mine just died today. The computer takes very long time to POST, then it does not show the the drive in the list of drives. The drive spins up and I can feel the drive seek 2 or 3 times, then it just continues to spin. There are NO clicking or grinding sounds. What is usually wrong in this case?

Hello, any idea about palmer slow reading even with thw good set of heads. Its just 128kbps and sometimes it jumps to 2MBps. After one week of imaging its just 100GB. :/

Interestingly I read a lot about this specific model failing. I have the 2TB variant of the same drive family in daily operation since 2012 (ST2000DL003-9VT166). Two of them in Raid 1 in fact. They work flawlessly. Do you have any insight if the high failure rate is specific to the 3TB variant or if it affects the other sizes as well?
@devisals
@devisals Год назад
I have the 3 TB model and it has been 3 years using it. No failure yet, although in SMART the read error rate is concerning.
@gennidee
@gennidee Год назад
@Devised As far as I remember it's the same for my 2TB variant. Read somewhere that this Parameter is used differently on these drives and gives an indication of the amount of data that is transferred. Dunno for sure though. They never gave me trouble so I left it at that.

I recently had the same drive just stop working for me too. Never noticed it degrading or slower speeds and just stopped. When I try to boot up my hard drive again heard a noise from my hdd and turned it off. It wasn't like your other video where you heard clicks on this drive. Tried once more and noticed it just showed up as unknown, not initialized, unallocated, and the size of the drive. Tried one of the suggested programs real quick to see if the health and no go so I just stopped before I could do anymore damage to it. I assume it could be the same issue as the video and if I needed a price range would have to contact you guys first?

Hello HDD Recovery ; External hard drive External HDD Type WD my passport ultra 1TB, was encrypted with a password using the official encryption program of Western Digital ,, but the owner forgot the password ,,, Is there a possibility to restore the files in any way or way? Is it possible to chop him? Does the meaning of encrypting hard disk is to encrypt even bytes Bits in the CDs inside the hard and can not be read even after the opening of the hard from the inside? I hope you reply and help, and thanks to everyone.

I have a segate 3TB drive from my apple time capsule it powers up and spins up sounds like it engaging then it spins down and seams to shut off. cant access drive from capsule or in a external drive case. is the data recoverable ?
@hddrecoveryservices
@hddrecoveryservices 4 года назад
most likely yes. Those ST3000DM001 Seagate drives need platter inspection as they often grind platters, so that would be 1st step. Then we would need to repace/modify new head assembly to extract what is not scratched up off the disk.

@bruno-sorocaba

mine (exactly this 3TB model) died a couple days ago. I was using it as secondary, so not much load. It last about 7 to 9 years since I bought. Now if I plug directly to motherboard, it don't detect in Bios. or detect as something with much less capacity only. If I plug on external sata to usb interface, it keep trying to spin and stopping. So my advice to you= make backup of all your important data before the day comes.
