Yeah, that PMIC needs that cap. I have the same opinion mostly on caps but not all caps are created equally. Like you said, the short was being regulated (by the PMIC). Still, a smooth repair as usual 👌👍

This cap was a "smoothing" cap for a psu (you can tell by its larger size) and needed. The caps that can easily be done without on a well designed board are "decoupling" caps. I suspect that was why it needed replacing.

good job, I know that It might not work without it, the digital noise on the power lines might influence the Ic that was designed for, or will pass to nearby IC's, preventing them for running

7:16 because there are two types of technicians: one (like you and I) who injecting voltage by touching pad with probe/needle, and second type - who always have to solder a wire to motherboard first and apply voltage trough that wire. (it is that simple - that second type of people have, that kind of perversion - to always solder a wire to inject a voltage)

If capacitors aren't there, they can't get shorted. Yep, but a nonexistent capacitor also can't filter the ripple from switching power supplies. If two capacitors were in parallel and one failed while sharing the load, then how long will the single capacitor last when taking all the work load by itself? I once had a desktop power supply that was making weird sounds and I knew I should have changed the caps right away, but I waited and the dirty power destroyed my video card. The cap on the motherboard right by the GPU was bulged also. Dirty power will stress capacitors down the line and often those caps are smaller and can't handle the large ripple from larger power supplies which feed them. Good job on getting the customers Data.

34:15 haha 😂😂 finally after years on this channel there is a case, where my words are come true. Think logical - we are living in days, where all manufacturers trying to produce everything cheaper as much is possible. SO, you can assume, that everything what is left on the motherboard is absolute minimum to work proper nice. In older days maybe there were unnecessary capacitors, additional mosfets, fuses, resistors, but now most likely, every each small capacitor has own reason to be there. Some of them are critical to boot/start phone/laptop and rest of them are not involved to start/boot/post, but for other things like system stability, working without errors, freezes, good wifi signal, stable backlight, etc. Just reject other thoughts, and think logically - if they decided to lost money to leave capacitor there on the board, then It must be a good reason for it. Because one capacitor (inside one model of smarphone) times a dozen of millions pieces produced, equals a lot of money.

@Steffen_
@Steffen_ Год назад
Every single Component has his function in a ciruit. I cand understand why u sometimes remove shorted Caps without solder a new one? Even if the Device is running after removing the fault Component, a new one is needed, otherwise the next Component get broken over Time. Manufacturer wont solder components that have no function, they try to save money and time to create a Device.
