Haha the way these guys describe what a 3rd cousin would mean that person would be a child relative to them. 3rd cousin is the grand daughter/son of your great-great grandma and father. That's pretty distant.
1st cousins share grandparents, 2nd cousins great grandparents, 3rd cousins share great great grandparents and so on and so on. If you've been dating for a while or are engaged and you find out that you are 3rd or 4th cousins it's not a big deal. The genetic similarities are extremely insignificant. At that point you are basically not even related. The increased risk of you child having a genetic abnormality is a fraction of a percent. Seriously though, if you were going to family reunions and shit together as kids before you started dating it's just weird. Don't do that.
