OMG, Maya! I am totally with you on your nails. I went to this new shop. This guy there did a fabulous job on my nails; but then, I went back and he asked me what I wanted (this was in February). I said PINK. He said that’s not a Valentines color. So he had an attitude and messed up my nails. I like square shape. He gave me ALMOND! I was mad. Needless to say, I haven’t gone back! I pay $90 for my nails. I know it might be more in Atlanta, but that’s a lot where I live. And lastly, I wanted to say, DO NOT FEEL BAD BEING FRUGAL! You are teaching Amirah to be a good steward over the money God has blessed you with. You are laying up wealth the her and her children, your grandchildren. ❤

You are 100% NOT TRIPPING!!! I think a lot of us struggle with speaking up. I did...until I didn't, and it just so happen to be at a nail salon. Every time I went for a set or fill, the tech would tell me how she thought MY NAILS should look. When I spoke up (and not in a demure timid tone) she got big mad and I did not care. Maya I have struggled with what you’re talking about as well 29:00 speaking up for myself and not letting certain things slide; the things that I know can affect me negatively or goes against my beliefs system …. Shake the table! People don’t be true to themselves or say/ do what they want etc.. you say/do what you need to in a respectful way. Period.

I wouldn’t consider myself a fun girl due to the color of my wardrobe capsule. I had seborrheic dermatitis before and I went to the dermatologist and got a special shampoo and use it for a couple of months and haven’t had a problem since. Oil and grease can inflame it more. Just FYI.😊
Hey, suge!! Around the 26 min mark you talked about you introducing color into your wardrobe. What helped me out is finding my *color palette thru *color analysis. As a “deep autumn,” while I gravitate towards nudes/neutrals, I can still wear other colors within that palette that don’t veer off from my personal aesthetic. It also flatters as well. Give it a try! 💙
Yes dating is a mess now. I have learned that texting in the initial stages can be a good thing or a bad thing. Its nice to see the bad guys weed themselves out early tho. 😂 Literally the first week EVERYTIME 😂

I agree. We have to speak up about the things and services that affect us! I have learned to do this even when it rocks the ship buuuuuuut I will rock this whole ship if I feel y’all steering me somewhere I don’t wanna go. Your nails should be how you want. And everything else you pay for or deal with. Period.

MAYA! If you continue dating, get a Google voice number. Don't give out your info. I used to do the same thing at the nail salon...and in other areas. I went on a year-long campaign of "advocating for myself". It makes a world of difference and definitely improves the quality of life.

Nope, you're not tripping AT ALL. I went off on a nail tech who grabbed my hand. She got cursed out, cried, and ran to the back. Such is life! They got someone else to do my nails and all went well. 😊 I literally shook the table!!
A nail tech made me CRY before cause I was afraid to be the “Angry Black Woman” I asked for their opinion on a color to match my carnival costume & they said they couldn’t help me.. When I said the other tech helped me, they said “Come back when she’s here” (two of them said it) I was on a time crunch so I stayed, then they lied to me about not being able to do designs so I decided not to do my feet there. Could not take anymore. Very relatable!
Baby this is WHYYY i stopped going to the nail shop and found my own tech because alot of techs in shops are just lazy and im 24 so i feel like im just now learning how to speak up because making excuses in the service industry is wild and they almost ALWAYS get defensive

It's important to assert yourself when you're not happy with the service you receive. Recently, I had to get my big toe fixed and the job was rushed and poorly done. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, the person in charge argued with me and even threatened to charge me extra to fix the mistake. It's disappointing that a business owner would treat a customer this way, especially for such a simple task. Remember, it's always okay to stand up for yourself and demand the quality of service you deserve.
Maya you should consider going to a private nail tech or only booking with the same person. especially if you're very particular. when i was a child I was timid and never spoke up for myself. i grew out of that very quickly..i found my voice around the age of 19, im 34 now. i say wtf i wanna say to whoever. i live in truth and reality and don't give af who has a problem with it and life is better for it 😎

Lol Maya you sound just like me about being traumatized from marriage/relationships. Me and my ex-husband got married 6 months after reconnecting from high school and if I could go on a nationwide campaign tour to tell women to stop romanticizing this notion to get married quick....I don't recommend anyone to do that at all. Now we do have to make room for God but you'll know when it's Him...but 9 times out of 10 He wants you to build a strong foundation first. I literally was laughing out loud because I said the same thing to my parents that when God send my forever Godly husband he is going to be begging them to tell me to marry him and it's going to be like year 4 of our relationship...I got to be for sure for sure 😆.
