I think the reason the intake, exhaust and starter are all on the left side is because the car was designed from a Japanese point of view, where they are all RHD. So the driver is on the opposite side of the car, which helps weight distribution and handling.
Not only is the ignition key on the left of the steering column, but the turn signal lever is on the right side. Nissan used the same unit for the right hand drive cars.
What a cool car. Just discovered the 1600, are they a lot better than the MG’s of the time? I’ve worked on lots of those and while they have charm and some are good quality, the MGB’s really aren’t in my opinion. Plus they also have cross flow heads like this which makes me wary of the 1600.
I love sport Datsuns. Always wanted a 510 and a 240Z but now days they are almost impossible to find and when you do they are a pile of rust. 4.5" WHEEL WTF!,....Dam STARTERS!...Dude you are funny. Saludos Amigos.
Why did people design a straight 4 engine with the intake and exhaust on the same side? You would have much better flow and cooler intake if the exhaust was on the other side.
Beautiful car,but I can't see bothering with the old carbureted engines unless it's a restoration or an original car. A bored and dual carb engine that is putting out a WHOPPING 120h.p. vs a newer fuel-injected turbo engine that puts out 250h.p. that you can drive all day, never runs hot,you never need to adjust and synchronize the carbs, sounds better to me.
