I have been searching for budget alternatives to dynamat and purchased fatmat on ebay and out of curiosity i heard about people using "peel and seal" that you can get at lowes for about $17 for a 25' x 6 inch wide roll in the roofing area.... Its not too bad at all, you can do 2 doors with 1 roll. The fatmat and peel and seal are the same thickness(measured with micrometer) , both do not smell and both have very similar adhesion characteristics, I would even go as far as to say they are the same thing...both were even packaged similar with a "batch" sticker that was the exact same size and font and digit number....the rolls were just different sizes....Even looks the same, just no fatmat logo....anyway you get the point! The fatmat I got on ebay for $129.99 shipped and if you do the math, I got 100sq ft of fatmat, and the peel and seal would have cost more. I used the peel and seal in the doors, and even tripled it up in the easily accessible areas on the door. It made a HUGE difference, and had no issues with smell or it not sticking properly. I was a professional car audio installer for 4 years and used dynamat xtreme all the time, and it IS a great product, made of butyl and not asphalt, and it is also thicker, but at the cost of dynamat, its not affordable for budget driven builds, and this stuff still makes a HUGE difference for the fraction of the price. Thumbs up for PEEL AND SEAL and FATMAT!

@gst69man yeah totally ! Use this stuff (fatmat or peel and seal) on your doors, roof, floors, wherever you need to deadening...remember too that the adhesive would benefit from getting warm upon application to adhere the best (heat gun). But on the water heater blankets....I wouldnt use that stuff just because of the fiberglass batting they use. Instead, I would go to Lowes and get "jute" padding, its REAL cheap and can be cut into shapes to conform to your floorpans easier. hope this helps

Thanks, been looking for a substitute for dynamat for my 280 doors. Can I use on floors? I thought about using water heater blankets, they are made of fiberglass with a vynal bacling, whats your opinion? Ferd
