One way to fast charge your Jackery is to use a pure sine wave inverter ( I use a 300Watt) plug the Jackery adapter into it and charge the Jackery while driving. It is much faster than using the vehicles 12V as a charger. I fitted a fused cigarette lighter connected with a 10ga wire direct to the cars battery to power the inverter. I have not had an occasion as yet to use my Saga100 solar panel

@JackDougherty
@JackDougherty 3 года назад
I don't have plans to sell pre-built conversions like this because I simply don't have time. But anyone can bring the Sketchup design we shared online (jackbikes.org/minivan-camper) to a carpenter or handy-person and they could estimate a fee for doing it for you.

I have a 2006 Sienna. I removed all of the rear seats. How necessary is it to building a floor? Can I just put a pad and a rug down? I don't have anyone to help me and I don't know how to make a floor.
@JackDougherty
@JackDougherty 2 года назад
We decided not to build a new floor for our 2016 Toyota Sienna because we were satisfied with building our cabinets and couch/bed on the existing floor, and using a rug to cover up the space in between. If the same approach works in your 2006 Sienna, great. But see also Eric Enjoys Earth for his video about why he installed flooring in his Sienna ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A5XxEZpDhpk.html

i got 2 little ones in car seats. how do i convert my sienna into mini camper?!
@JackDougherty
@JackDougherty 3 года назад
Not sure if you'll find a satisfactory solution to this challenge. While you could keep the kids and car seats in the middle row while traveling, and then lift out those middle seats at each overnight stop to extend the bed, the larger seat is pretty heavy, and you'd also need to cover it with waterproof bag or tarp to protect it from the rain when placed outside of the van.
@darrel1954
@darrel1954 2 года назад
Jack, where do you store your clothes?
@JackDougherty
@JackDougherty 2 года назад
Since we designed our van for long weekends, we simply bring clothes/coats/towels in tote bags, and loop their long straps over the backs of the front seats so that they hang in front of the cabinet doors. But there's plenty more space under the bed frame if we need it.
@darrel1954
@darrel1954 2 года назад
@@JackDougherty Jack Great build! I cannot believe it costs a lot of money and I like the fact that when you trade cars it can go back to the car without modifications to deal with. I actually want an all wheel drive Class B motorhome but a nice one is way over $100K and since I have never really camped like this, I thought why not do something affordable and try it out for a year. I figured I would learn what I need to have and second, if I hate it I do not become another guy trying to sell a motorhome that lost 40% of its value when the front tires hit the street leaving the dealer lot. So thank you very much for sharing your ideas. I really appreciate the details you gave us for free. Thanks Darrel

Thanks for sharing! I have subscribed. More success to you and your family. I like what you’ve done, especially fashioning the corner brackets to bolt it down to the back of the front seat. I have no experience with power tools and I have limited number of power tools. So I use a lot of heavy duty zip ties, ropes, and heavy duty Velcro tapes. Perhaps the following can help so you have access to the sliding door handle to open it. I used a wooden dowel and secured it vertically to the hold bars near the sliding door with heavy duty zip ties. Both my foldable metal shelving and front blockout curtain rod are secured to the dowel. Both stayed secured even in sudden braking in freeway traffic and off-grid roads. In addition, I have secured floor-cabinetry and lightweight foldable shelving in the back and middle portion on one side of the van to the ceiling-hold bars. However, I’m thinking of installing a long-ish wooden dowel that extends beyond the hold bars on the ceiling ... resting horizontally across the hold bars in the back end of the van to secure heavy duty cabinet. I’m not handy with power tools. I would welcome other ideas without involving major skills.

Hi, Love your build. And thanks for sharing the sketching and ideas. I just got a 2015 Sienna, started our camper conversion now. When looking at the sketchup, saw the 4 inches x 4 feet long piece of plywood on the head side. Is that suppose to be nailed on the frame? or you actually use a 2'4" x 4' plywood board on the head side. If it's nailed to the frame, then can I skip the inside 2x4 thats 3'6". Thank you.
@JackDougherty
@JackDougherty 3 года назад
Great question! In our original design, we had a 28" long bed section on the piano hinge, but it was too awkward to raise and lower from inside the van. So we trimmed off a 4" strip and screwed it down. Turns out that strip was flexing more than I expected, so we attached another 2x4 support underneath. Decide what works best for you!
@monitachan7284
@monitachan7284 3 года назад
@@JackDougherty Thank you for your quick responds on my questions. As I wanted to copy the same bed size. Wonder if your model is the same as my 2015 CE. Also, is there anything to hold the top piece of the bed, and prevent it from slides out on bumpy road?
@JackDougherty
@JackDougherty 3 года назад
@@monitachan7284 The 3rd generation Toyota Siennas (2010-2020) are supposed to be similar sized. The trim models are listed in Wikipedia as base, LE (that's what I have), and upward. So I don't know how a 2015 CE is supposed to compare because I don't see it listed here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Sienna

love the design!....the seemingly simplicity yet functional way the bed extension became the cupboard doors which became the table top was ingenious! I am waffling between converting a small vs. expensive high top van (the bathroom being the major issue) for retirement travel. Have you added a feature like this for "gotta go now!" situations (or if public washrooms are not available)? .....perhaps a mini-van with a "stow & go" feature would allow a place for feet with a short pail/potty out of the well so getting down & up would be easier? Not sure if your van has this well area though. She has much younger knees than I though. Love your sharing ...can't wait to see what modifications you decide on. Best of luck travelling!
@JackDougherty
@JackDougherty 3 года назад
Good question. Go to jackbikes.org/minivan-camper/ and in the toilet section of the budget list you'll see the inexpensive solution we purchased for "gotta go now" emergencies. So far we've used it only a couple of times at a rural campsite. On that web page you'll also see my personal reasoning for choosing a minivan rather than a high-top van. Of course, everyone's situation is different

Thanks -- the idea of using doors/tables/bed extenders in 3 ways came to me halfway during the project.

Could you email the blueprints? I didn’t have any luck downloading them.

I just tested the download to the Sketchup (.skp) file and it's working fine. Here's the direct link - jackbikes.org/resources/minivan-camper-toyota-sienna-2021-01.skp

@@JackDougherty Hey Jack! Thanks for your reply. I finally got the app to work with your plans. Hopefully the build is easier than getting the sketchup to work for me, haha. You don't happen to have the dimensions of everything do you?

@@brandonlindquist4638 Good to hear that you successfully downloaded and opened the Sketchup file. Use the measuring tape icon in Sketchup to view all dimensions, as shown near the end of the video. Good luck with your project!

This is brilliant! I love that you can still put the 2nd row of seats in.

Thanks! We've added and remove the 2nd row seats and front cabinets several times, and it works well for our needs.
