"Mr. Letterman... Mr. Shaffer... it's time now for your afternoon physical activity: shuffleboard. And after that is over, you'll enjoy a nice cup of rice pudding. "
@@robbernath “And don’t worry, we’ve removed all the glass panes from the windows for safety, but we have an orderly here to make the shattering sounds for you.”
Mary, awesome job filling in for Barbara, and another episode with great guests, Dave Letterman and Paul Shaffer! Those kids are really going some where!
Those glasses that Dave has blend in with his face so well. I need someone to find me frames that look good on me. I’ll still be an ugly dork, but folks would say, “Those are great frames for him!”
I remember that eclipse Dave experienced. It was probably 1963 or 64. I lived in Ohio, and was next door with a friend when my mom called over and asked her mother to make sure I stayed in the house. I misunderstood the danger, thinking that merely being outside would render one blind, although my friend's dad was out there mowing his lawn, and did not go blind. Neither did the people driving on nearby Route 40. Considering what a small sliver of sun was visible here in Massachusetts during the 2024 eclipse, I was surprised at how relatively bright the sun was. I had to look at it through my neighbor's dark glasses, as even my camera could not photograph anything but a big, bright blob of light.
This episode reminded me a bit of the Carole Burnett Show if she didn't have costumes, hair, make-up or writers. Kind of like Tim Conway, Carol and Harvey just sitting around singing show tunes in the lobby of a law office. Mary, you are wonderful, but this is falling apart without Barbara.
A very admirable job filling in for Barbara and sorta wrangling the two cats there ... Ooooohhh, you should have Ms. Lisa Minnelli on, to sing " New York, New York" ... Did you know she was the first person to record it and perform it publicly? I saw do it in Dallas, very magnificent performance!
Watching these too old show biz buddies sit around just talking gibberish for 5 minutes and having fun is better than watching 1000 hours of the current late night junk available...
July 20, 1963, is likely the one that burned out Dave's retina. Not total in Indianapolis, only 68% coverage but if he's not kidding (and I think we know that Dave is nothing if not 100% serious at all times), then that's likely the one. URL in reply lest the post get eaten by the YT URL Eater.
I believe that Part of Dave's motivation for buying the South Sydney Rabbitohs was to ease the regrets caused by his eclipse related vision issues. His limited hand-eye coordination, due to damaged retinas, kept young Dave from playing the fast moving sport of Rugby. 😢
@@lifegood1712 It was a sad time in young David's life. Years of struggle followed until he was finally given the opportunity to succeed with a guest spot on long-running hit, The Barbara Gaines Show.
If Mary is like Joan Rivers is Barbara going to be like Johnny Carson when Mary gets an opportunity to have her own talk show? I don't think so but sometimes highly successful people like Barbara get overwhelmed by their fame and become very insecure.
Hiiiii hiiiii hiiiii dear mary dear Barbara dear dave dear new friend and all ❤❤❤❤❤ how r u dear guys ❤❤❤❤❤ love 🎉 respect 🙏 for you all ❤❤❤❤❤ best wishes ❤❤❤❤❤❤
