Maybe Dave Chappelle's Takes On Sexuality & Gender Shouldn't Be Trusted 

I love Dave as a comedian but I think having ao many people call him the GOAT has cooked his brain. It's honestly tragic

He might not be a Republican, or a right winger but he’s definitely a conservative. And always has been. I even loved him way back, but I still thought it was a conservative.

It dawned on me that when I first heard his criticism of Katt, Dave was defending a very specific group of people. Rich, male, Black, and influential comedians of notable status. Not Black women. Not poor and working folk also striving to “be in a better situation.” And certainly no consideration that people can be both Black and LGBTQ. His framing of the community as exclusively white erases gay and trans voices of Color. It’s convenient for him because it doesn’t fit his martyr complex as an extravagantly rich, straight, male comedian in America. The guy who became rich on satirizing Black tropes and stereotypes suddenly thinks Williams is doing irreparable harm to the game. The same guy who pulled his rich privilege to prevent affordable housing from being built near him. And I should also add, in the same interview Katt did criticize white stand-ups when he made reference to Rogan’s satellite of unfunny comedians. Sometimes the simplest of critiques in plain words are the deepest of cuts. But Chappelle exists in his own bubble, hears only what he wants, and decides what is offensive and not.

As a trans person who has lost too many black trans friends to bigotry and hate over the decades, Dave Chapelle can sit on a cactus and spin. And as a person who's poor and has been thrown in jail just for mouthing off in front of cops more than once, I know which one of those comics is more popular in jail... with the real tough guys, and it ain't little mister elite cornfield in Ohio..... Katt Williams is a damn funny comic, always has been, he brings joy and laughter to millions in desperate and terrible situations. Dave Chappelle betrays his friends. F Chappelle.

Hasan Piker, I thought, had some interesting comments about Chappelle’s trans jokes. He said they were lazily written like a 1st draft you try out at open mic to see the response before reworking it, refining it, and figuring out how it fits in to your set. But for whatever reason Dave doesn’t want to develop them into something introspective or anything other than ugly attacks that bring his whole act down.

You're the first black guy i've ever seen challenge that trope that "hollywood is trying to feminize black culture" or something. It always struck me odd that chappelle felt so strongly back then about what he had to do for a laugh or who was laughing at his jokes and now he's basically only doing comedy for that same audience.

Carlos Mencia was trying to do his show. Key And Peele started like Chappelle show their host segments leading into bits, but their bits were never like Chappelle show bits because they weren't mostly focused on social commentary as much as just bizzare gags, I'd equate Key and Peele closer to Kids in the Hall, for that. And even Chappelle's host segments were original to his show, Mr. Show was doing that on HBO almost a decade earlier.
