Thank you Oz Edit: Korey talked this whole time to basically just say comedy is subjective. Especially the irony of him criticizing Dave but then thinking his joke about brown people was OK.
To me, it seemed like Dave Chappelle was trying extra hard not to offend anyone. Compared to the times he was talking about transgender individuals and did an impersonation of an Asian person, this was super tame by comparison. He wasn't even really making fun of Jewish people or calling them out like he was of other people, yet there are still people that took offense to what he said. It also did not seem like anything he said was wrong.
The problem, in my opinion, is that a lot people are popping off going "CHAPELLE IS RIGHT, KANYE DID NOTHING WRONG!"and the worry is that he's gonna help Black Isrialites seem more palatable. Not Black Jews, not Ethiopians, Black Israelites conspiracy.
Them ppl ought to get thickee akins and stop being sooo super f-ing sensitive... Especially, when a whole jewish government in Israel has been and still is implementing an apartheid law on another race of ppl. I call anti-semitism on Israel. Palestinians are Semites, too. So by committing oppression and terror on them, israelites are anti-semitic themselves.
@@stephensmith7327 I could see why that could be a problem..but I would call those people wrong if they think Dave Chapelle was defending or agreeing with Ye (Kanye). Ye was saying Jews control things in almost this hive mind sort of way. Dave Chapelle said that just because there are a lot of Jews does not mean they are controlling everything. He disagrees with the core idea Ye is trying to push.
I'm sorry if you both want to talk about the monologue i think it's best if you both watch the entire monologue together so the conversation can be informed and in context. That's actually one of the issues with people being offended, some don't even watch or listen to the entire subject but just want to share their opinion based not on context but out of order clips, quotes etc
That monologue was very funny and tame at the same time. I don't know why people were hurt. At this point everyone knows Chappelle. If you can't take Chappelle, don't watch Chappelle.
Jews should STFU, they're acting like they're the only ones that have suffered, they can't talk to a black person about suffering cause we could write Bibles on what suffering is. Even Dave said it in his monologue, that Jews don't get to play that card with us cause we've had it worst!
It’s okay to disagree but when you call someone racist sexist transphobic because of a joke it tends to get personal lol. But there is a group of people in America who hate even the most Tiny criticism.
@@hitotsufutatsu2203 every minority has been through shit we still should be able to laugh out ourselves . Comedians shouldn’t be worried about being canceled over jokes especially a black comedian . Cuz let’s be real if you wanna play oppression Olympics black people winning that shit lol.

4:30 Yes, anyone is allowed to criticize Dave Chappelle but that does NOT mean that people are obligated to agree with your criticisms. Like, just because someone has criticisms doesn't automatically make them valid or accurate. I think Dave Chappelle critics have a hard time accepting that MOST people don't agree with them.
@@JinxSanity Said what, multiple times? Has Korey every acknowledged that it's okay for people to disagree with his take that Dave Chappelle was transphobic? Because he seems think that people believed that he was trying to cancel Dave. I think most people understood that he wasn't trying to cancel Dave, they just didn't agree with his take.
@@realityshifter3399 I haven't seen a single well reasoned argument for how Chapelle's comments weren't transphobic. Saying you're "Team TERF" unironically is unambiguously transphobic. This isn't subjective. Words have definitions. If you think otherwise, you don't know what the fuck 'TERF' means.
@@jakecorenthose2901 That's because you probably don't know how to listen. If Dave calling himself team TERF is the only thing you're clinging to then you really don't have an argument.
@@realityshifter3399 "Um, your argument is bad because... it's bad." Wow. What a brilliant counter argument. Very well reasoned and not at all hand wavey. lol Saying you're Team TERF but pro trans is like saying you're team KKK but pro black. It's an oxymoron and anyone with an above room temperature IQ understands that.
@@stugotz7650 not starting but Chappelle lost me because he lied about his supposed trans friend & all the trans woman's friends & family spoke out about it. And his rant on trans people wasn't funny which I agree with Korey on. It was just him being a transphobic jackass.
As a Jew living outside Hollywood I can say everything he said in the monologue was fair and probably true but the very last line made me understand the controversy because yea it would totally radicalize crazy’s against Jews because the “joke” was sarcastic and ironic, stupid people miss that shit all the time.
The monologue was hilarious, intelligent, and tactful. I think the main reason stereotype jokes are funny is because comedians are actually saying things that we keep in our thoughts because we don’t want to be fired from our jobs or socially ostracized. Anyway, transphobic jokes aside, he’s still one of my favorite comedians.
Personally, I think Jews should STFU, they're acting like they're the only ones that have suffered, they can't talk to a black person about suffering cause we could write Bibles on what suffering is. Even Dave said it in his monologue, that Jews don't get to play that card with us cause we've had it worst!
Hi Jewish fan here 👋 Speaking from (not for) the Jewish community I wasn't all that offended by the monologue although speaking with my fellow tribe members I can definitely see where people have concerns. While I really appreciate how genuine and attentive you guys always are on this topic I do think you missed the parts Jewish people found problematic. It was more the normalizing of the trope that Jews are secretly in control, for the most part I think this is presented as jokes, and he even called the idea delusional at one point. The only line I had an issue with, wasn't presented as a joke and FACTUALLY isn't true was the line "when it's blacks it's a gang, when it's Italian it's the mob but when it's Jews it's a coincidence and you shouldn't talk about it" - totally not true, people say this all the time in music(rock and rap), tv shows (from family guy to ramy) to politicians right to left - It also bothers me as it pits minorities against each other rather than unite us, really only one people benefit from that. But he's definitely said far worse about other groups and has gotten into deeper trouble for it. No idea if you guys read this but I appreciate your consistent candid approach to this topic!
Tell your people to chill TF out, they're jokes, your people are not above being laughed at, you haven't suffered enough for that. Blacks have suffered more and we get laughed at, so again, CHILL TF OUT!
3:56 Great question! That same question came to me way back when we were first hearing a brand new term. That term was ‘political correctness’ and the whole premise that people had some kind of Constitutional right to ‘not be offended.’ I was like, ‘wait, what??’
@@Patrick-wl6pw And that fact has never been spoken about Patrick. People just want to have something to complain about, even though Dave substantiated his position by actually having a TRANS FRIEND. How can you be TRANSPHOBIC if one of your FRIENDS IS TRANS? You can also remember that his TRANS FRIEND committed suicide after pressure from the LGBTQ+ community for being friends with Dave.
The way I feel about edgy comedians is the same way I feel about controversial movies; when the person behind it has a personal experience which helps them understand the subtleties of what they're discussing from an objective point of view it often works, but when a person in a privileged position is doing it unfortunately more often than not that privilege will end up making them appear out of touch, inconsiderate, or entitled. Doesn't apply to everyone but for the majority of cases this proves to be true.
A lot of people are excusing him because he made you laugh. The thing about comedians is they are gifted speakers. You have to know out the difference between saying something wrong for a laugh and saying something wrong because they believe it and they want to influence you. I think that's the difference between his jew jokes and his anti-trans rants.
Feels like people are looking to be offended. Dave held back so hard and people still freaked out. He makes fun of everyone, everyone needs to grow up.
As a Jewish Chapelle fan, my issue was the jokes didn't culminate in something. In The Closer he made fun of jews and trans people, but he had the time to come around and make the point of common humanity and love. It was a long monologue but he just didnt have the time to bring it back around so it felt meaner than he is . But he certainly shouldn't be in trouble for trying to do a set.
Dave Chappelle absolutely killed it!! This man is a legend! A certain group of people are upset for no reason, oh well can't please everyone. F them 😂😂😂
Jews should STFU, they're acting like they're the only ones that have suffered, they can't talk to a black person about suffering cause we could write Bibles on what suffering is. Even Dave said it in his monologue, that Jews don't get to play that card with us cause we've had it worst!
It was not offensive. You felt a certain way. you can criticize, but you can’t tell anyone how to do their job just like I can’t tell you how to do your job.
HEY KOREY COLEMAN...if ur gonna comment on things, be educated on what actually is going on. 1. Kyrie NEVER denied the Holocaust. That was a part of film of which he DIDN'T WATCH. When reporting on another black man u can't be spreading misinformation 2. The movie was CALLED, "From Hebrews to Negroes", so was NOT A JOKE he made up 3. The BEST joke he made was, "When it's black ppl, it's a gang. Italian ppl, a mob. If it's Jews...it's a coincidence"
But no one really gets cancelled. People cannot even cancel their Amazon Prime. People cannot even cancel Jeffrey Dahmer. Threats of cancellation only create Momentary spotlight.
I don’t think it’s canceled culture. It’s Karen culture. And even then, they don’t seem visible uKnow? As controversial the headlines have said about the monologue, it’s awfully hard to find them! A lot of love in these comments
My favorite bits were when he said, "...like aaaa lot. But that don't mean anything. Ferguson, Missouri has a lot of black people. Doesn't mean they _RUN_ the place!"🤾 And when he described Trump at the first debate with Hilary, "...& then he pulled out an Illuminati membership card and chopped up some cocaine w/it & then did a line right off the podium!" 🤣
Dave Chappelle didn't say anything wrong at all. Every time they complain about somebody because they're black, people gotta play along with the narrative.
Dave was period period. He's now harder to separate the artist from the 'art', he came back awhile ago like he was afraid some receipts were gonna come due and he had to gather his crowd around, not sure he thought he'd gather some altright supporters, but look at Herschel, anything is possible and they're both hilarious.
What if Dave's material is above your head ? You think you comprehend the the joke, but what if you don't ? He is a very high level artist. Most of us are not.
If getting people like Dave to come on SNL help these sensitive writers there resign.. then Good. There is nothing worse in comedy than having comedians regurgitate pre-approved talking points, as "jokes".. which is what SNL is at this point.
'Jews' has been offensive for a while, Korey. It is about as offensive as 'Blacks.' That is, you can kinda get away with saying "it's fucked up that cops keep killing all these blacks out here," but you should probably say "black people" instead.
someone said everyone gets offended when their group is joked upon, but i don't think it plays out that way in this day. Alt right, nationalists and even the old kkk see an opportunity in this comedians set. they ignore the parts about themselves and never 'learn' the moral of his stories, and jump on hey, he's got probs with this group we also have an agenda against (use and abuse it to strike that group down, in media and IRL). He's useful, just like Kanye has become more useful to them . . though they'll never be invited to the real dinner.
@@thewkovacs316 Carlin was a prolific writer and never stole from Lenny Bruce. Respect to Mr Bruce being a ground breaking for his time but I think even he'd admit George Carlin was better than him in most respects.
The thing about criticism that people get wrong now is that it’s not to put down what your doing just for the sake of making you feel bad. More often than not it’s because we want the thing we’re critiquing to be better because we’ve grown to love and have certain expectations with whatever it is we’re talking about and don’t wanna see it fail or struggle. So anytime those expectations aren’t met, it’s important to speak up otherwise it’ll never reach the potential you see in it nor will it improve going forward. I thought the monologue was great but I understand the few critiques Corey had, but that’s only because like most of us he’s a fan that knows Dave’s true potential and wants to see him continue to kill it in comedy and be the best that we all know he can be. Try as they might we all know they’ll never take down the king.
Dave played all sides of the political compass VERY well. The man is a genius and reminded everyone for just a moment what comedy really is. Its being able to take a step back and laugh at ourselves. Its about laughing at the Emperor when he's not wearing his clothes. And its about getting people to think without attacking them like a petulant child. God bless him.
The way it was explained to me, way back when, was this. If I’m out with friends, and someone were to describe us as “the blacks,” that’d be ignorant. If I’m by myself and someone described me as “the/a black” that’d also be ignorant. So I apply the same consideration, I expect from others, to Jewish people. They aren’t “the Jews.” They aren’t “the/a Jew.” They’re Jewish people/ a Jewish person. It’s all about respect. For me, it’s that simple.
Being called black or the blacks isn't offensive at all. No moe than being called American or the Americans. What is offensive is non black people who pretend to be black in the comments just to signal boost their struggle story. Like you did here.
@Miguel Garay - yeah, pretty much. That’s why, I never use the term “Jew.” I always refer to Jewish people as being Jewish people/persons. Not trying to be an SJW. Just trying to not sound ignorant.
Dave Chappelle is a legend and the monologue was so good Everyone can be made fun of in comedy. It's a joke and an honest joke It's not fair that one group with more pull in the entertainment industry has determined they will not allow jokes about them. Take your jokes and keep it moving everyone stop being so sensitive. Every culture is fair game in comedy And as far as the movie tweet. None of us were alive 10k or 2k years ago... Grown-up he didn't make the movie I saw it and some was fact and some was junk I see the same thing every Sunday at church some is fact and some is junk take it in make a decision on the positive parts to your life and keep it moving everybody stop being so sensitive and treat everyone equally and fairly
Right because if a Jewish Comedian said the N word or even implied the kinds of things he did it would have been totally the same. No Dave himself would be decrying it as racist because to Dave that's the only community worthy of sensitivity, nobody else though.
@@Oxbloodmage Was he violent to Jewish people or was he prejudiced against them? If not, then it wasn’t antisemitism. That is the literal definition of it.
@@neidhardt8093 Nobody was SHOCKED or appalled that he said that, at all. Not one peep. But he made some jokes and people denounce it. That is the connection.
Korey, fwiw, I thought your Talocan/brown folks/swimming joke was comedic gold. I don’t know if you’d thought of it prior or if it was off the cuff wittiness, but either way it elicited a full-throated laugh outta me😌👍🏾
The hilarious thing is this guy who's defending Dave Chappelle would very much get offended at a Jewish guy telling a bunch of dumb unthoughtful black jokes. Now he can say oh that's what's going on throughout history. And that's probably sadly very true. That doesn't make it defendable.
Could you imagine if Seinfeld pulled a Chappelle and started blaming the black community and talking down to them and mocking their fears like he did to the trans community. I'm sure everyone would be super understanding.
Greetings, DC, on snl was sublime... It's right up there with, "The🚕 Roadtrip", which I think should receive a Pulitzer..🤔(seriously) "no one has to apologize," the reader.
You can't always please everybody. It's pretty clear that Dave Chappelle is definitely not antisemitic. He was just being funny. I always appreciate his honesty.
But if they was making fun of African Americans or African in general then there'll be no uproar why is this culture off limits but every other culture is
Cos of the Holocaust... Guess they justvignore or are ignorant of OTHER holocausts/ethnic cleansing committee throughout human history.. Africa, Asia, etc. It just has to keep being boiled down to that ONE particular...exclusive one, in Europe, during WW II. Not dismissing it..just pointing out the fact that while we all take notice of that one..we tend to ignore the rest. They're NOT the only victims.
@Christopher P. Braxton then why should we care about THEM.. ? Ya see your kind of stoopid response is the typical type of responses that make more ppl jaded and less empathetic to that community..and their "allies".
@@themadafaka6839 I mean we are quite aware what happened in the 1940s and World War II with the Holocaust it was the tragedy but we're systematically being killed constantly today and they don't bring it up at all
Oz is right, listen to what people say in the context of why the sentence or statement was said before you jump to conclusions. When you read a book with a sex scene in it you don't think, "Oh man this person is a porn writer." It's part of the story...same with comedy. It's meant to be ridiculous. Korey fell for the irony that Chappelle was putting out there in The Closer (even jokingly calling himself transphobic multiple times), his whole set led up to a story about his trans friend Daphne Dorman and how hypocritical and mean people can be when presented with dissenting opinions and preferences.
About people who claim every criticism is a cancellation: so basically, witch hunters love to accuse others of being witch hunters and the most sensitive people are obsessed with saying everyone else is sensitive.
The problem with Dave is no one is accusing African Americans of commiting the Holocaust. They have a problem with Irving and Ye promoting Holocaust denial movies, and saying the Holocaust did not happen. Jews and African Americans worked together in the Civil Rights movement, until some groups worked to divide them.
I've been doubting that. Or..that might be true..until Dave starts to talk about certain groups that might have some influence on him and double toasted... Just a thought.
Kind of questionable with the "He went on a horrible Transphobic rant on Netflix" and then being like "I feel like people are a little too sensitive" thing.
Korey, the problem isn't that you criticize Dave Chappelle. Even though I disagree with some of your take, what you're doing isn't cancelling him. The problem comes in when people are requesting for him to be silenced, boycotted and even banned from places. That is the problem that we are facing with cancel culture, which is a real detrimental phenomenon in our day and age.
