If this man isn't a modern day philosopher and griot then I don't know who is. 50 years from now when people rewatch his skits and stand up, they will still say he was ahead of his time and the pinnacle of his craft.
The problem is, you don't have to be right to be a philosopher and visa versa. Combine that with the fact that you can be right about a lot and still be wrong in the grand scheme of things and unintentionally deceive yourself and the masses with your truth and perspective.... That is the power ánd curse of words and delivery
Any comedian, and any intellectual, already knows this to be true. Saying he is GOAT is not a shallow observation. He stands shoulder to shoulder with Lenny Bruce in the all-time hall of fame.
The way DAVE CHAPPELLE, takes you on a mental, emotional journey, to then blast you away with a punch line from left field, is comic genius! Each phase of the joke is designed to knock you off guard, to relieve the pressure from the story. 😂😂😂😂😂
PUNCHLINE ARTISTRY GOTTA BE AS INSIGHTFUL AS A FULLSTOP , A FULL STOP CREATES THE BEGINNING MIDDLE AND END TO SOMETHING THAT STAYS WITHIN THE MIND WHEN CREATED BY THE LIKES OF THIS UNIVERSAL TRAVELER
Wow. The Iceberg Slim story at 50:53 used to compare his situation with Comedy Central was some of the most genius storytelling. Real af. Chapelle is a legend
@@NicoGee1 he was at a breaking point and the powers that be wanted to get more mileage out of him by offering him a multimillion dollar deal, which could have just been profit made already from his own show. If he would have taken the money, he would have sold his soul.
I really hope you someday super soon you can kick the 💩 out of that depression. There is nobody else who can do it but you brother !!!!! Stay strong and have hope
I saw Dave in Austin about 20 years after I fell in love with Half Baked and watched it hundreds of times. Man I was such a stoner. I grew up on Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor. I'm very sad to report that Dave Chappelle is a small piece of that wonderful history. I wish we had more black comedy in our lives and less hate.
I love how Dave turns into a strange neutered Asian coloring dragonfly’s and bumbles and such… at the end of his act Dave’s always been able to close his shows in a magical way Fucking epic
Hahaa Genius🤣 The way he made us watch without seeing the progress till ...boom mic drop at the end...Dragonfly! POW It really is all in the delivery hey
A couple years before he hit it big with the Dave Chappelle Show on Comedy Central he went to the Manhattan, NYC East 24th street (off 2nd avenue) comedy club and performed in the small part of the club ... about the size of a broom closet and he actually said that to the crowd and they responded kindly and laughed. I was helping the club out volunteering to help the comics with whatever they needed. He hugged me and thanked me for my help and was very polite. I was pleasantly shocked at how cool he was as opposed to others who were not famous like he was and were very rude to everyone. To me he is one of the all time greats, perhaps THE greatest although most of that stuff is subjective. I'd place Chappelle, Bill Burr, Eddie Murphy, Katt Williams, and George Carlin as the best of all time, with Murphy and Williams tied for FUNNIEST at their respective peaks.
@@Qtipword I said it's a tie FOR ME between Murphy and Williams. I saw Pryor at his peak. Remarkably funny and well deserved status as a legend. But for ME, it's Williams and Murphy.
@@Qtipword Re: one special that's amazing ... Agreed. It's TOUGH to make it at that level. It's even harder to STAY there. Pryor SHOOK white america by saying things they were thinking that could not be said openly. He kicked open that door and the rest is history. It's tough for ANYONE's material to age well and for me unfortunately Pryor is included in that sentiment. Same with Dangerfield. Same with Leslie Nielson's double-entendre routine which he stole from Gracie Allen. Jerry Seinfeld is AWFUL at standup with the "have you ever noticed" routine, but it was INCREDIBLY GOOD when translated into a sitcom where he was the straight man and everyone else around him were goofballs. Kevin Hart is entertaining in movies, not funny in standup. Chris Rock WAS incredibly funny in standup and not so in movies. Now he's NEITHER as he has peaked in standup and he's painful to watch. Chappelle is suffering IMO from suddenly being declared the GOAT and having to live up to that pressure. He's not the GOAT and he clearly is not as good as he was before, yet STILL worth the time and will still make me laugh now and then. Right now there's only ONE guy who REGARDLESS of the times will make you spill your drink out your nose. Katt Williams. A close second is Bill Burr. They are both TO ME the funniest guys out there TODAY. That's why I placed Eddie Murphy (who no longer is funny) and Katt as my all time greats. At his peak, TO ME, Murphy was the most COMPELLING entertainer in Hollywood. Today comedy is suffering from the WOKE mind virus and the pronoun lunatics so understandably you can't do now what some of the greats used to get away with. In the end it's mostly all subjective. All the names I and others have mentioned are known because they affected us in some good way. Honorable mentions to Patrice Oneal and Norm McDonald and of course Carlin.
0:01 - 14:30 IS very powerful and had me in tears both laughing like a mf and crying all the same To Dave Chappelle- i salute you, sir and thank you for reaching out into my dream. I am honored you were so kind. Cheers EJ in garland tx
You would hear this same stuff in a green room in restaurant and at a house..... he's the same everywhere even 1 person is enough for him to tell a story. He doesn't do it for the masses he does it bc he likes to tell stories and it translates!
Sometimes we will only "see the light" after we endure a very real experience in the 'dark.' ❤ Epic Dave! 🎉"BE a CANDLE; bring warmth & light ANYwhere you go!"🎉
Dave's skill to go from serious and candid to fkn hilarious is unmatched, from what I've seen. So damn good. Oh, and I thought this was new. Pretty sure I saw this same one last year
The year doesn't matter, ( saw it earlier myself ) But this is my favorite Dave of all..The way he builds up a story..To include his truths and beliefs, and get you to the height where he wants you...That's where he wanted you..The next line, will have you dying from laughter
❤🎉😅 David Chappelle is one of the smartest young men I've ever met that does the most amazing comedy storytelling to perfection.. His parents obviously are so strongly proud about not just his performance but the brains they instilled in him.
Thank you for taking the time to upload this and make me feel good. I hope you enjoy the fact of this. I know it’s not paying you anything. But your spreading the truth. Dave Chappell is Truth-sayer. Not selfish just like you. He smokes so he lives. Real Talk.
I love Dave. I actually went to the same elementary school, Woodlin in Silver Spring, when he was there but I am 2 years younger than him. I wish I had been in his class because I’m sure he was just as funny back then. He tells the truth about so many fucked up things going on in our society today and in the world at large but in a very sarcastic way that even though it’s messed up he always finds a way to point out the irony and humorous side to them. I hate that so many people, especially the younger generations, have become overly sensitive about everything and can’t laugh anymore at funny observations but only get offended and their feelings hurt. It’s so ridiculous that even my own children have said I was a racist and a transphobe. I’m not allowed to use so many terms that were commonplace back in the day because they have become insults, hurtful and even sometimes illegal?! It’s crazy. Whatever happened to sticks & mother fucking stones? I can relate to everything he talks about. Btw, does anyone know who the kid coloring at the end of the video is? I thought that was an interesting way to end this video.
I'm sat on a bus with my earphones in trying to keep myself to myself & laughing like a mofo ,.....people looking round like im a crazy Bastard, Dave chappelle is the man ,the undisputed heavy weight king of comedy 😂
Dave is the goat and one of my favorites. But over the past few specials, he’s abandoned the art of stand-up. Don’t get me wrong, I’m entertained by his stories, but they aren’t standup. I miss the brilliant stand-up comedy Chappelle.
