This is a look back on Dave Cowens's Hall of Fame career. Dave Cowens was a undersized center who found a way to get the job done and then some. Through his hard play on the court and a knack for rebounding. Helping him earn multiple all-stars, an MVP, and championships.

Cowens is mad underrated. Speaking of rebounding, you should do a Nate Thurmond vid. Averaged 15 and 15 for his career

Absolutely love that. Basketball itself is color blind. I'm 45 and grew up playing in the parks in Illinois. Not that I never heard a slur but I NEVER saw racism stop someone who could play from playing. Make a good pass, make a good shot and it doesn't matter we're just all basketball players.

Cowens played like his life depended on every play. This brutal, high energy, ferocious style of play not doubt shortened his playing career. Literally nobody today plays like this. Thing is he had a great long range shot, and just a step back would get him 3 instead of 2 now. I do not think his level of physicality would be appreciated by opponents today, but his skill would certainly translate to today.

I remember a guy at work saying what a beast Cowens would have been in today's game. I see why. He had an all-around but simple type of game, kinda like Joker does, no bells n whistles but extremely effective. Except Cowens is a much better defender. And the dude was a walking board.
@forestgump8357
@forestgump8357 6 месяцев назад
Man I hear you, he literally took boards away from people. His very tough defense and brutal board game would create a bunch of flopping today. Much better defender, and much faster and quicker than Joker, but otherwise similar.

@70sfan17
@70sfan17 5 месяцев назад
I was thinking the same thing! Havlicek being injured WAS the reason the Knicks were able to beat the Celts in 1973! Havlicek was on fire in the playoffs, he scored 54 in one of the games against the Hawks but injured himself in the Knicks series and could barely lift his right arm!

Actually, you meant in the 1983 NBA Playoffs that the Bucks swept the Celtics in the Eastern 2nd round or semifinals and then the Bucks lose to the Sixers in the Eastern Finals not the second round. Anyways, good video and keep it up.

I went to FSU when Cowens was playing there. The best game I ever saw him play was in 1972 against Jacksonville University in FSU's little Tully Gym that was led by super center Artis Gilmore. That was the only regular season game that JU lost before eventually losing to UCLA in the NCAA finals. Unfortunately for Cowens, FSU was on probation and barred from post-season play. Otherwise, they might have been playing against UCLA instead.

That punk said he didn't want Kobe when he was with Charlotte lol he traded him for vlade that's what I remember about him but I see he could hoop tho he obviously didn't have a high IQ basketball or otherwise I'm sorry I know Kobe was a high school player and that wasn't cool back then but still anyway RIP Kobe
@hoppysport2872
@hoppysport2872 9 месяцев назад
Punk? Cowens was named Charlotte's coach one month before the 1996 Draft. He was not their GM. He didn't have a say in personnel. It was GM Bob Bass who didn't want to draft a high school kid, and traded Bryant to the Lakers for Vlade Divac. Before you make a nonsensical statement, do your research.
@Gigi-qk2fo
@Gigi-qk2fo 8 месяцев назад
I did u can literally look up an interview of him saying he didn't want a high school kid on his team granted his job was probably on the line and he didn't want to take risk because it wasn't popular to take high school players at that time but still Kobe was one of the greatest I'm kinda bias so let's respectfully agree to disagree

@@krisharkleroad8 Kobe averaged 7 his rookie season and 41% from the field. It's easy to revise history. Calling Cowens a punk by that guy was totally uncalled for. New Coach, who probably was just regurgitating the GM's boardroom desires.
