I can't wrap my head around how amazing his guitar/playing is! It's so CLEAN!!! It almost sounds like everything he is playing is edited and mastered and ready for the full mix... I watch a lot of guitar videos and I've never seen anything like it...
My exact reaction when seeing them open for morbid angel. Heard a song or two but never really listened to them, but I was blown away by how clean and precise the entire band was. Could tell these are extremely professional players.
So cool to hear Dave play some Martyr! I've loved Martyr since Hopeless Hopes and being from Quebec myself, this band is a pride of the metal community over here! AWESOME!!
So many modern metal bands owe a lot of their sound to Martyr and they don't even realise. A truly innovative and revolutionary band that will never get the respect they deserve
I went to see Revocation - in Mtl - recently for NetherHeaven tour and Dan Mongrain (Martyr, Voivod, Carpharnaum) was there, so was Luc Lemay from Gorguts 🤘🏾 Such a epic night!
Dave is so good at bringing all the language of music school and showing you how it’s applied in metal. You hear it when you listen to the records but I’ve never heard someone explain it like this. Not about death metal at least.
I can make my guitar scream but Dave can do it and knows exactly where he is and where he needs to go. He's inspired me to not only shred but to know what I'm shredding.
Man... I've not known about Dave or Revocation before catching them live accompanying Beyond Creation (whom I was diggin hard at the time) - but their stage presence, especially Dave's (blasting lead guitar but also vocals and general beaming into the crowd), and cerebral but still groovy in ya face music made me fall so deep into every single thing they released so far. And hearing Dave talk about music in general and where his inspirations came from, what bands he likes, and for what reasons, just keep me hooked to his lips and hands both - he's amazing. No1 metal guitarist in the world right now, for some years back and more to come.
Even though he's talking about very classic riffs, it's great seeing him dissect them and showed what he learned from them. Dave is truly a brilliant musician.
The younger guys really have theory down. As an ear taught early 80s guy I am always stoked to hear technical explanations for things I learned sitting there ripping and listening to my heroes.

Aw maaan, after listening to the latest Riffhard podcast with Dave, I LOL'd when he mentions Angel of Death in this video as well. He goes on for at least 10 minutes being such a metal nerd about THAT riff, it was very wholesome, and I relly enjoyed it!
Oh sweet, I just got into Revocation this week and this drops today! Dave is a monster player, super legit, he earns that crazy guitar shape, it's not just for show! 🤘
@@CesarSandoval024 I've known Dismantle the Dictator for years, but then last week I saw that cover he did of Holy Wars, so I figured I'd check out some more songs. They kinda rule and if nothing else I respect his songwriting/playing/frontman presence.
Never realized this but that change from Phrygian to natural minor in Symbolic is a good foreshadowing for when the root note moves up a major third in the middle riff
Greatest guitarist in modern metal for sure, and even has my vote for the greatest metal guitarist of all time. I can't think of anyone else that is so technically proficient, yet so musical at the same time.
Love how they are showcasing dave so much lately. Dave should be a host for some metal knowledge shows on metal injection. Metallica and megadeth examples, gotta love it.
Great to hear Martyr not forgotten in time XD Glad I had the chance to see them in Edmonton before they disbanded... They even played a cover of Death's Symbolic that show :D I remember trying to learn Virtual Emotions on guitar but eventually giving up sadface XD
Why? Theory is pointless and only applies to western music. The majority of the greatest guitar players don't know any theory. Just play your guitar and be happy.

Dave should go the route of almost every other RU-vid guitarist and create a paid theory course specifically for the heavy metals. I'd throw money at that.
Admittedly I don't listen to Revocation as much anymore. They're still a killer band, I'm just a little burnt out on technical death metal. But I always enjoy watching Dave talk about guitar stuff. His knowledge and skill are beyond impressive.
When my cousin and I saw them on their tour with Cannibal Corpse, Dave was at their merch stand and a "fan" literally walked up and bought some stuff and didn't even want an autograph or a picture with him. Super humble and knowledgeable dude
You're making a massive assumption that the person in question didn't know who Dave was and doing it in a stupidly judgemental fashion at that. Not all of us are posers that want to show off pictures of ourselves with people we look up to as though we had any connection to them or had to prove that we met them. I literally lived in the same county as Corpsegrinder. Ran into him dozens of times at places like Wal-Mart or the local gas station or the Brass Mug. Never once bothered him. Been a fan for decades seen them live dozens of times and never once had any interest in bothering him whatsoever. Saw Revocation live when they were supporting their first album. Bought a shirt from Dave at the merch table. Didn't say anything else to him. If I didn't say anything it's very probable the person you're judging didn't say anything either and it has absolutely no bearing on whether he's a "fan".
I have nowhere near the musical knowledge of this man but can play all but the last riff (due to lack of knowledge of said song not the band) my point being, just play, you can be half decent, just like your favourite player, without having any of the musical theory. Music is fun.
