Hard to believe that this really fine musician is 80 years old. His style and love for American rockability never faded; his roots are pure and classic in every right. What a performer!!
Yup good ole Dave...that breed of intellectual pop of the 70's and 80's...along with Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe...they set the standard for wonderful songwriting and infectious melody.
@@racketman2u Dave has written many songs. That said, I don't think anyone would call dave a prolific songwriter, he mostly covered stuff. And he did it well. Very well.
Everyone noticed Mickey Gee but there 's another great man in this Dave Edmunds" band. He's called Geraint Watkins. ( Here at organ and great on accordion )
When the new wave (old wave?) stuff began to hit the airwaves in the States in the late 70s, the radio played two of Dave Edmunds songs - Girls Talk, which for some unknown reason the radio jocks attributed to Graham Parker, and Crawling From the Wreckage which was credited to Edmunds - but written by Parker. I found it impossible to buy any of these records in the States which was very frustrating. I never got my hands on his stuff until after 1990 when it was all released on CD. Most of my family members over the years tolerate my taste in music, but I think I must be the only one that loves Crawling From The Wreckage. I just related to the angry pissed off tone - that and Edmunds and Costello. I saw Elvis on Saturday Night Live and hated him, but weeks later I started hearing the same songs on the radio and went out and bought his debut album. Actually my favorite Edmunds song is DEBORAH, with elements of "I Fought The Law" in the chords. And my favorite Costello song is MYSTERY DANCE, 95 seconds of honest to god rock and roll. It also is kinda like Jailhouse Rock. But faster. Those late 70s punkers really lit me up. They were the antithesis of so-called, retro-named "yacht rock". Yet. I am a huge Steely Dan fan, was then, am now, have seen them live four times. Maybe some of the stuff Elvis and Dave were doing was a "take that Donald Fagen and your studio perfection!!" Or not. I love them all.
Bass player with Merseybeat legends The Big Three and in later years many other acclaimed bands… Wish l’d been old enough to see The Big Three on The Cavern Club Alice!
Lyrics There are some things you can't cover up With lipstick and powder Thought I heard you mention my name Can't you talk any louder? Don't come any closer Don't come any nearer My vision of you Can't come any clearer Oh I just want to hear girls talk Got a loaded imagination Bein' fired by girls talk It's a more or less situation Inspired by girls talk But I can't say The words you want to hear I suppose you're gonna have to Play it by ear, right here And now, girls talk And they want to know how girls talk And they say it's not allowed, girls talk If they say that it's so Don't they think that I'd know by now? Got the word up on everyone's lipstick That you're getting faded You may not be an old-fashioned girl But you're gonna get dated "Was it really murder?" "Were you just pretending?" "Lately I've heard..." "You are the living end" Girls talk And they want to know how girls talk And they say it's not allowed, girls talk And they think they know how girls talk If they say that it's so Don't they think that I'd now by now? But I can't say The words you want to hear I suppose you're gonna have to Play it by ear, I hear There are some things you can't cover up With lipstick and powder But I heard you mention my name Can't you talk any louder? Don't come any closer Don't come any nearer My vision of you Can't come any clearer
@DirecteurLeenhouwers You know a good artist when you see one.i grew up on his music and is still a big part of my life.Especially the very rare high school nights.I cannot seem to find anything live besides Porkys
I saw Dave Edmunds at the 101 Club, London, back in the mid-80's. This band is very close to who he had then: he definitely had the same guitarist, I remember her was small, bald, and played a very old, butterscotch Telecaster. For the encore Jimmy Vaughan and Kim Wilson from the Fabulous Thunderbirds joined Dave and the boys for an extended Chuck Berry song, Promised Land (the Tbirds had played the 101 club the night before). I will never forget when the song had ended after about 15 minutes, the bald guitarist was shaking his left hand while smiling and looking at Jimmy Vaughan as if, "whew, that was tough!", good naturedly, and Jimmy Vaughan just have him a withering look, like "you punk..." I'll never forget it. I came away thinking that Jimmy Vaughan was a bit of a dickhead.
@@highpath4776 I'd always wondered if he was the great Mickey G. I'm American and that year was over the pond on holiday. When I saw that that club had Jonnie Winter, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and the Dave Edmunds band booked for 3 NIGHTS IN A ROW, I tossed away all of my plans and replaced them with those shows!!! I even brought one of my little sisters to see Dave Edmunds. She loved him!!! Those were great days when you could pay £10 and get to see LEGENDS IN THEIR PRIME. I NEVER regretted my decision!!!
The group here doesn't swing like Rockpile, but this is an interesting take on the tune. Mickey Gee plays it raw and loud -- a big departure from Bremner's style. Worth hearing.
The interviewer is B.A. Robertson who had a couple of hits from 1979 to 1982 with to be or not to be, bang bang, kool in the kaftan, flight 19,hold me.
@@bthomas1001 yeah i know it was the instrumental "arrival" from the album of the same name with lyrics and a new title called "time" but sadly it has never seen the light of day on cd they re-released his first 3 albums with a lot of bonus tracks but it wasn't among them
One of my fav songs of all times, Bass player nails it here. The interviewer " B.A.Robertson " had a couple of mildly entertaining semi hits in his time too. He( BA Robbo) has to go down as one of the most odd looking dudes of all times. Well dodgy perm combined with a 9ft long face and giant Jimmy Hill chin. Most odd but very unique if nothing else!
The bass-line in this live version is far more simple than the one of the studio version. Also, this appears to lack the "swing" that the studio version had. Still good though. Just not as good.
