Unbelievable response to this video & guitar!! Congratulations to Epiphone, Gibson & Dave Grohl. The DG-335 is officially our most pre ordered guitar of the last 12 months!!! Thanks to everyone that’s ordered one - we’ll be doing our best to get the guitars delivered as soon as possible as we can. 👍👍👍
@@sillysausage4549listen I’m probably in the same boat of never wanting to spend the money on their upper end stuff but, an absurd price is really an individual kind of thing. To some people this is pocket change and to others a month of rent or something similar. I would never buy one of these but, epiphone hasn’t stopped their lower end products, so there are always those options and not just expensive Epiphones now..
These new Epiphone prices really make Reverend guitars look even better. The Reverend’s were always a huge bang for the buck. Comparing their lineup to Epiphone’s new higher prices makes the Reverend a steal.
A lot of guitar makes are now looking more attractive than epiphone. I don't understand what epiphone are doing with their pricing lately, I know a lot of guitars that I would buy for £1.250 than that.
I have a Reverend that’s 5 or 6 years old now. Back then I thought they were a good deal even though they don’t even give you a gig bag like similar priced Fender, PRS and Epiphone does. Heck you can spend $1700 on a new signature Reverend and still not even get a case. In my opinion from an owners standpoint, I don’t think the new Reverends are worth it. I have an Inspired By Gibson 59 Epiphone Les Paul and that guitar is absolutely great. The neck and frets were perfect out of the case. I get compliments on the sound of that guitar at every gig. I guess each to their own, that’s why there are so many brands out there. The higher end Epiphone’s have come a long way.
I agree that Epiphones have come a long way, but they are not nearly as good as Reverends for the same price. I bought a brand new Warhawk DAW two months ago for $1,100. It's very well made, has locking tuners, and came with a hardshell case. Each to their own, but I'll take a Reverend over an Epiphone any day.
@@CycloneJackI remember when I bought one of the first Reverend imports (a Warhawk no less) to the UK for £330. Perhaps I shouldn’t of let it go.. seems they are worth a little bit more now!
Reverends are a better value for sure. So are Yamahas. You can get a Pacifica 612 for $450 less than this Epiphone. And it's made better and is more versatile.
The AC30 is probably bang on for what was used in the studio on a bunch of recordings. His main rig is an original Fender Tonemaster head, along with a Custom Audio head, and he now uses Friedman cabinets. In the studio, it can be a variety of anything. Dave and Chris stopped using Boogies live around 2010/2011, and switched to different amps around Wasting Light.
I was never an Epiphone fan. These last few years I’ve found myself falling in love with quite a few of the IBG line guitars. Bought a few. Worth every penny. What you get with these is GIBSON USA pickups, CTS pots and A HARD CASE. I think it’s a good value.
Thats stunning. I could only dream of that and wish i could play like that . i have a starter 222 and a fender in its case. I just really like that sound especially a David Grohl piece ❤
It is SO COOL when a Rock Star like Dave Grohl comes out with an affordable Signature guitar. I seriously have way more guitars than I can possibly need, but damn, I want one of those!!!!
My Reverb review: I have owned three ES-335s, two Gibsons and one Epiphone Pro. Not only is this guitar better than them, it is better than my Les Paul. I always plek my guitars, this one doesn't seem to need it. I always replace the tuners with lockers, but these tuners are so good - I may not. I can't find a flaw in this guitar and I gave it the Trogly look over. Now make an SG with this headstock and fit and finish !
But epi pups vs Gibson pups, no mother of pearl inlays and depends on how much you value pelham blue over walnut and the Trini Lopez styling. I can see why they've priced it this way.
I figured it would be clocking in at the $1500/$1600 range with a rosewood board (at least) and a hard case. At least it's got Gibson pickups. Still, $1300 for MIC regular Epi? Nice guitar though.
Very cool, completely slept on this, selling like hotcakes apparently (and predictably). Not sure I could justify it as I have a first run olive Chris Cornell model, but it does have enough different features to distinguish it, right? RIGHT? ;)
My question is though, how were Gibson / Epiphone able to give these specs for $1,200, but other less anticipated models by Epiphone going for 1,500 plus? Did he offer to not get royalties for it something? If so, that'd be amazing.
6:50 Regarding amps that Dave Grohl is using... On their third album, Nothing Left To Lose, they used primarily Vox amps, because they wanted to do it a little differently, get a differently sounding album.
You don't really have to know anything to play those chords, Lee. I'm self thought, and I don't have a clue about music, but I know a lot of chords, and 95% of them I don't even know the names of. I think it comes from learning songs by ear, and just stumbling across new chords, and just sitting there for hours on end searching for notes that sound right together, and what sounds good before, and after certain chords. Us self thought people know just as much as people that got lessons. We just went a different way about it. In my songs I use odd chords, and structures probably because I was never told what my boundaries were that I had to play in.
I was gonna hold out and buy one of these but got turned off by the fatter neck so I ended up going with the Emily Wolfe "White Wolfe" Sheraton and I could not have made a better choice!!
I doubt this new business model of charging $1200+ for Chinese made guitars will work for Epiphone. Not when brands like Schecter, LTD and PRS SE exist.
Agreed. I honestly don't get why Epiphone is so stubborn in sticking to Indian Laurel, even on their "premium" series guitars. Why can PRS SE, Eastman, Ibanez, Yamaha et al do it but Epiphone can't?
The 339 is a very different sounding guitar. It has a much smaller body than the Grohl Guitar does . The Grohl guitar has a 335 size body .. You won't get 335 tones or Trini Lopez tones from a 339 and the 339 has crap pickups.
I saw them for "free" at Expo 98 in Lisbon. The Expo was meh but I felt my $30ish bucks was well spent to spend the day there because of the show. Dave was hilarious. The only Portuguese word he seemed to know was obrigado (thank you) and they busted out My Sharona with obrigado as the lyrics to start the show.
Dunno man… £1300 and you’ve still got an Epiphone? I wish Gibson would stop using Epiphone as their budget brand and let just have a “Gibson made in china” range.
I'm kinda suprised that these are cheaper than the new Firebirds/other Signatures. Nice guitar, but paying more than a grand on a Epiphone is just crazy.
Johnny Million @itsjohnnymillion It doesn't make sense if you alter what they said, naturally. They said they don't think they will buy one but NOT because of the price tag and brand. In other words, they areN,t going to buy it , but the pricing and brand are not part of that decision. As opposed to not buying it on account of the brand, which is what you're Lolling about.
Depends. I think the Dave Grohl is priced high but fairly when you consider it comes with a hard case and Gibson pickups. But most of the other premium Epi’s seem overpriced.
I mean idk if I’d ever spend this kind of money on any Epiphone regardless of the special/limited edition monikers. I mean they still sell guitars at a very affordable price point so I’ll just stick to that stuff..
Still waiting for an ANGUS YOUNG EPIPHONE! I just don't understand it. He is one the most iconic Gibson players for decades, in the biggest Rock band of all time and it seems like, Gibson/Epi isn't giving a sh*** 🤬
The comments about price seems fair considering a standard Epi 335 is Les than half the price, meaning diamond shaped f-holes, and a signature is worth a quite a lot, considering the rest of the specs don’t differ that much, and the price of a burstbucker, and Grover minis, are not enough of a price difference, even at retail prices, to make up the 60% premium.
I like the look but I dont see the value. Epi 335's can be found new for sub £500, which already includes a profit margin, and there's nothing on this one that adds to the build hours. So artist premium + pickups + case is £750 more. 🤔 Value doesnt compute, for me. Eastman/Sire/D'angelico or even Epi dot every time. Its priced as memorabilia to gouge superfans. Foo's and their money are easily parted.
Been playing an original Trini in red with the bigsby since 1993. My dad’s first new guitar when he was a young musician. I do love the Pelham blue but think the LP in that color would be better for the collection here than the sig Dave model
Looks great but it looks like the days of guitar being an affordable hobby are well and truely over. Hang on to your pre-pandemic purchases, you'll never see those prices again.
I remember when you could get a Epi Prophecy for just over £500. 😂 No doubt Epiphone will sell bucketloads of them. But £1250? Its not steep, its effing vertical.
Excactly my thought too, still a bit shocked after the Epi Firebird 63 release lol Shame I have already bought 3 guitars in 2024..... This is a must as well.
That's how the marketing and pricing scheme gets people. Inflate the prices so ridiculously that the lower, but still ridiculous, prices look more appealing compared to the higher price.
Indeed. I thought for sure it was going to be their most expensive yet. They probably could have charged 2000 thousand at least and they'd have sold just the same.
Thanks for your great Demo. Love Epiphone and i have the tommy thayer Explorer and the matt heafy orgins les paul but the prices for epiphones are amazing high😮
