Dave Lombardo came to Guitar Center Hollywood to show off his new Ludwig Vistalite Kit and gave us some tips on how to achieve speed and accuracy when it comes to mastering the double kick!
I play drums too and as another drummer I'm sure you've seen other other percussionist with lots of technical skill who just sound mechanical, flat, and boring, Dave had success since he brought groove, energy, and feel to thrash drumming . Slayer sounded better when he drummed for them. As a drummer with experience I'm sure you know how to give the song what it needs by not overplaying and showing off..... or saving the fiils and complex beats for the right moment to add to the music.
Nu Metal fan Stupid Flanders You do realise that when they are more loud you have to put way less effort into your speed and technique? Have you two ever sat behind a drum kit? Those guys just tickle the bass drum by twitching their feet and it comes out as if Thor is wailing on the pedal.
_-_ _-_ Its very straightforward lol. I think every half decent drum teacher would give this tip lol. There is no magic secret to learning double bass, you just gotta do it.
Dave Lombardo is left handed but plays right handed, which means he mostly uses his “weak” foot until he plays double bass, then he leads with his left foot. I adopted this approach and used my left foot at every opportunity to level it up. We ended up covering Raining Blood but I never quite got up to Silent Scream, and then the band broke up.
Missed opportunity here, GC. Would have loved to have seen his foot placement on the board, ankles, etc. Not the front of the gear you're trying to sell.
Yep. Like it always was. Practice makes perfect. But like with anything... You have to commit yourself and put the time and effort into it. Its your life. Nobody picked up a pair of drums stick or a guitar or an instrument and became a star over night... That is "IDOl" nonsense. And IDOL does not promote you either... WHo won IDOL season 3 and what memorable beats and songs did they do?... yeah... You can sing.. So?.... Can you compose music?.. Can you make music?... Oh you have a nice voice... Ok good to know...
Guys, If we put these 2 drummers (dave and David Rumley ) on drum battle , who will get a bigger applause? Dave is okay to lose I'm sure. He is a humble person from my point of view and don't even care about who is better. Who cares when you can earn more money even if you are the best in the world?
DUDE! Chill the fuck down! Number one: So you have studied percussion?...Good for you! No one here gives a shit ;) Number two: everybody came to watch this clip of a legendary metal drummer who also has been touring around the world SEVERAL TIMES! And achieved international fame as one of the best Thrash metal drummers to date...I've never heard of you! ;)Number three: Yeah, you have studied music...do you really think that gives you the right to put down people who like a music style you don't?
And another thing. That comment about him going to his mom so she can braid his hair and calling him a good girl?...you know that says a lot more about you than it does about him since you have no idea who this person is? And last...NO! I do not agree that schooled musicians are close minded imbeciles. It's the exact opposite! They know a lot about talent and feel otherwise they would not be musicians BUT it does not give them the right to judge people, like some one here (YOU!) do.
That's good advice, you should do that for any technique. And besides, Dave is world famous for his double bass, what the fuck are you world famous for.?
Say that to all the classical composers and to the metal musicians who HAVE studied music. Tell that to Meshuggah, Darkane, Opeth, Ordinance, Dream Theater, Stonegard...shit! do you want me to go on? In these bands, all or some of the bands members has studied music. But sure, go ahead. Keep judging, let one egg spoil the bunch. Sure! ;)
Schooled drummers are no more imbeciles than self-taught drummers. Talent is talent. Either you have the drive to do this stuff, or you don't. Schooling doesn't hurt or help, its just one of many roads you can take to learn the craft of music. Nothing more, nothing less.
And how many multi platinum albums have you sold? How many millions and millions of adoring fans have you played for for over 30 + years and still playing at elite level? Let me know, I'll wait!!
