You're right, I haven't heard any DMB on the radio in ages, for that matter. So many amazing songs too. I haven't heard this on one the radio since it first came out.
I have literally been using humming apps for like the past 3 years to find this song. I once heard it in the background while eating at hooters. I’ve been jamming it a ridiculous amount of times
Please explain a humming app. I'm curious I have plenty of songs that I can pinpoint from late 2000s and early 2010s that I know the melody but nothing else. It's maddening.
Dave I think has a calling. Not so much as a musician, though he is great, but rather as an alarm. He uses his music to remind people of many important things. This song for instance conveys how valuable life is and yet how self centered most of us spend our days. Perhaps it just reminds me to get out of myself from time to time and meet people where they are, and help them there. He makes me think, and I love that.
There are a lot of artists with jobs, rare are those that speak and are heard. Everyone of us are capable of creating 'art' but few portray dreams and ideas that most cant seem to grasp for themselves. This is what separates the called from the crowd.

This has been my favorite song since I was 9...I'm 19 now. Only NOW am I actually reading the lyrics and truly understanding. Dave Matthews Band is honestly incredibly underrated and needs more hype.
I saw him in concert a few times one summer a few years before this album was released, when I was 20 or so… right around the time you were getting into the band at 9 years old. Huh, funny the way it is.
@@EvilThing3154 Funny indeed. I didn't discover them until 2007 and went to idk how many concerts all over the US in 2008 & 2009, right before this album was released. I was 24ish. Man those were amazing times.
I've never been a huge Dave Matthew Band fan, but I really do like this song. I first heard it when I working at a concert of his two years ago, and this was the one song that jumped out towards me. I feel that it does not portray in any way the "haha" this is really funny, but rather bringing attention to the fact all of the great and terrible things that are going on, all at the same time. This song has great depth, and is probably one of the best songs by Dave Matthews.
So good. Can either be viewed as a tragic song or a happy song. For every good thing something bad happens or for every bad thing happens something better happens. Glass half full/half empt type situation.

I haven't listened to this song in I don't know how long, and it came up on this playlist somehow and I had to stop what I was doing and watch/listen. I don't think people (non-fans) realize how deep his music is. I had chills from the moment he opened his mouth. I used to be OBSESSED with DMB now I am going to binge their music :)

ok, so if you are going through some kind of pain, doesn't matter how large or how small, it is nothing to be afraid of. It is a message, for me personally my pain was from friends it was to show me how to start living a better life. I was clearly in a bad place but what you can do is put your faith in art, and god (peaceful) the most diffucult part is TRUST once you trust you will see your pain disappear with ease. :)
This brings me back to when I was little and my mom had Dave Matthews playing on her iPod, and I remember this being my favorite song then, it's still my favorite song now! P.s. one time I was listening to this song and when it got to a part where a car drives by with the windows rolled down, a car actually drove by with the windows rolled down lol 🤣
You wanna know a real & true Irony: I met Dave Matthews on the street when I was growing up (high school). I was a metal head, & didn't really like his genre of music, but on a dare a classmate said to walk up to him and say hi. That's all I did. (Circa 1993-1994). This was on University Ave in... Charlottesville, Virginia. The same city where so much divisive fighting has been occuring for centuries, a metal head and a pop/ alternative musician briefly met and then went our separate ways.

I agree with most of what you said. When they put him in the orange jacket with the bag on his head, that is his rehabilitation. Afterwards, when he takes it off, the singing part is his "reunion tour" type thing, where he comes back from a long absence from his fans. For the most part though, I'd say you got it right.

I cannot stop playing this song on drums I literally played it over and over for 4 hours last night. DMB is one of the best bands to exist and carter beauford is my favorite drummer and honestly to me the best drummer to ever pick up the sticks.
So while he was living it up, chaos was erupting all around him but he was so focused on his career he didn't notice. I don't believe that he was looking at what HE did in disgust, but rather what he didn't see was going on around him. After seeing that, he finally realizes that it is completely messed up, and that something has to be done about it. in the final scene you see him walk up to a screen that shows a bridge, and he tears it down. I believe that showed a change in his lifestyle.Up plz
The thumb nail says everything to me about this artist... He is playing his role in that moment. This song really hits me..I feel his pain and confusion of what the hell is this place... Funny the way it is... If you think about it..... That a band that tours something like 13 months a year, every year could find the time to write an entire album this amazing, this intoxicating.
This song will always remind me of my short time in Manchester, heard it in the big Sainsbury's just off regent road in 2016 and listened to it none stop when I first heard it

This is my favorite song by him and watching the music video, you can just hear his deep lyrics and watch his fun video. he is so full of life and can joke around but make it all meaningful. He is the greatest artist of all time... PS if you have not yet, go watch him live! Ive seen him every year for the past 3 years when he comes to Pittsburgh and i suggest everyone go, best concerts I've ever been to!
This is a great song, but did no one notice this video? It's great. It looks like it was all done in one shot. If anyone messed up once, they'd have to restart the whole thing and that's pretty impressive

Nostalgia can't hit more... Back in my living room.. In 2009 just completed my 10th exams.. And this song plays on loop on Television.. At first I didn't like it.. Because same time eminem release his album "relapse" And song "we made you" So I would expect Eminem to ho number 1 but this song holds "we made you (eminem song) " to doing that.. So I didn't like this song that time.. But slowly it grew on me.. And now 2023 totally forgot about the song.. Just randomly search and read the lyrics.. Back than I did not know what he is saying.. But now I know... This is beautiful song and whenever it will. Play. . Nostalgia will hit me every time and will take me back to 2009 in my living room. ❤❤😊
the lyrics is easy, it's almost damn near in the title. the song basically is about the ironies in life; soldier dies but his son is born, you could be having the best day of your life while someone is starving and finds a loaf of bread and that's their "best day". also how life/nature was so beautiful and majestic and we try to tame it but only make it dull and ugly. it's about enjoying the simple things and loving life for what it is while it lasts and not trying to cheat life or death.
