You've pretty much got Davey's (modern) tone nailed! 1000 bucks for this guitar, with Duncans and an original Floyd is a killer price. I've heard it's also got a 9.5-14" compound radius fretboard (rounder at the nut and flatter towards the 12th fret for easier lead playing) which is great. great playing!

Nice guitar. This is obviously Dave's preference these days even if his black HSH is more iconic. American Fenders have the prestige and they're more consistent but I've played MIMs and Squires that were excellent. Considering the pickup and Floyd upgrades you'd have to make to build this on your own, $1000 is a great value.
irondarwin I really think that it's the highest end that you can possibly have for a MIM fender. I believe it is even better than some of the MIA fenders that I've played before. If you have the money, you should really look into investing in one.

Awesome guitar dude! I have a mexican Fender as well, but standard. I'm thinking about to change the pickups to hot rails, to get a more powerful song. I could see in this video what they can do. This guitar sounds incredible, I'm really impressed.
Just ordered one too. I've been a maple neck guy and have been wanting to try a different fretboard material . All the ggodies on this make it different than my other strats so its a must try....

Good playing but is very big differens between Mexico and American made but i have self 2 Mexico Stratocaster player and have Little 59 and JB jr own both guitars. And i Love them.

Adrian Seifi I have the USA Smith and it's really hard to compare! If I want a warm fat tone then I'll pick this one up for sure. if I want a really bright and sharp tone then i'll pick up the AS! The neck on the Murray is thinner than the jackson but they're both great guitars!

Very nice playing! Is this one of the MIM strats, or in the economical US line? It's very hard to find a quality strat that's already routed for a Floyd Rose. I'd be interested in picking one of these up simply for that. Whats your overall opinion on playability and tuning stability?
Tuning stability is amazingly great. I just shred the hell out of it and had no problem keeping in tune. Overall I honestly would confuse it for an American line. It's seriously pretty damn flawless. I would pick one up if you can!
Played one last weekend in a shop and although it sounded good, the action was way too high. There was no way anymore to lower the floyd (already at the lowest), or to adjust the neck (already done). Also the compound radius is something getting used to. I tested another Fender (american standard shawbucker), and damn that one played so much better, also the action was a lot lower. I'm not saying the Dave Murray sig is bad though as it sounded huge and thick, I'm just used to playing low action guitars. Maybe I'll need to try another copy
True. I bought an American Fender Shawbucker (black with cream pickups...awesome), and a week later, I read up on the issue and found out the solution was to angle the neck. Oh well... love the American Strat too :)

Great job mate! I loved your playing! I'm seriously considering getting this. I own an American Standard Strat with a hot rails in the bridge position but the neck is a little too round for me but the tone is great. I like the idea of the tapered neck for leads. Would you seriously recommend this for recording and live playing?
I would highly recommend it. If you can get your hands on one at a guitar store, I’d seriously go try it. Worst case you can order from sweetwater and return if you don’t like it!
Do you own any Tele's? I tried out a MIM Tele at guitar center last week. it played real nice and has a nice sound but i would swap out the bridge p/u with a hot rails or a another type of humbucker. I don't really need a tremolo system. For some reason i think the Telecaster plays a little better and seems like it could work for metal with the right pick ups and amps. I read somewhere that Jimmy Page used one for the iconic solo for Stairway To Heaven.
hey man awsome playing are you using effects which ones. just got this guitar. i set up the floyd rose to the body but it still looks like its tilting foward even though its all the way down. anybody had this trouble before
I'm looking for some answers. I've read many reviews on this MIM strat. By all accounts (and knowing the sincerity Dave M., puts into all things in his life). Firstly, he wanted to make it affordable for the masses (by going MIM), and he still insisted on decent hardware. Here is my question.....because I want to build one: What is the original Burst model he used to eventually install the SD hotrails and Floyd. Nobody seems to be saying and is absent from articles. I thought I heard it was a straight up USA Standard. But I want to know and what year. I've found the body woods used on American Fenders to be superior. I have the Black 2009 DM, best piece of Alder I've ever had. Chance? Perhaps. But Fender America does get the choice bode woods.
+alienstarguest Several years ago Fender made the "Floyd Rose Classic" Stratocaster that was USA made, I believe it was available from 1992-2001 or so, and was available in the sunburst finish, along with Black, Candy Apple Red, and Vintage White(custard yellow), with your choice of Rosewood or Maple fingerboard, but it was HSS configuration, but had the original Floyd Rose trem, same as this does. This is very similar to that model aside from the pickups, and country of origin(Mexico). It's got the Original FR, and the vintage style tuners the same as the USA model did, BUT I believe the USA model was not a compound radius board, but a standard 9.5. The closest USA Stratocaster to this model is the Floyd Rose Classic Stratocaster, and if you can find one....they're a great guitar, and they go for about $600 now, about half of what they were new......I miss mine dearly.
That's the same one that Adrian smith had back in 2001 too. I think he got a custom shop one or two. But those looked amazing. I still am really interested in getting one of those. lIke a creme one with maple neck!
Seeing as you got this in Feb, and it's now nearly June, are you still happy with it? I'm contemplating this model along with a Jackson Pro Soloist or Ibanez Prestige RG655. How does the neck feel on this?
jmiller09brophy - That's promising. I'm still looking, just can't make up my mind. The Adrian Smith signature Sam Dimas Jackson is twice as much, so that's making me look at this one real hard. I have an AM STD Strat now, and even contemplated throwing some Hot Rails in that, but I'll have no Floyd... Just too many decision. Thanks for the response. Up the irons!
***** I really like the AS Jackson. The USA one of course. I tried the SDX and it doesn't hold up well in my opinion. The AM STD is a great strat! Just put Hotrails in the neck and bridge and a JB JR in the middle and you're set! No worries, mate! UP the Irons!

hey from your JMP1 and TC Electroinc GForce to your amp, what is your amp settings themselves ? Care to share your JMP1 or GForce settings as well ? have they changed at all ??
Thanks mate. The settings themselves haven't changed at all. It's not the gforce. I am using the jmp1 and the jfx1 I'll share them with you if you'd like.

Help please!!Now does this FR works? Because its top Mounted does it work like a vintage tremolo strat? Is it easy to re-string and down tune or is it like a regular FR??
It comes set on the body so it's easy to restring because you don't have to worry about tension. Drop tuning will make the strings floppier and it'll create minor buzz on the strings. But depends on how drop you want.
Yes, what they said. You can downtune, but you might have some more string flopping against the frets and give you that buzz. But essentially, you don't need to put anything under the floyd to hold the spring tension since the body holds as a block for string changes. With a regular floyd, you have to put a block there to still hold spring tension. I've usually found something as simple as a sock works well. That's if you don't have your usual item to block the trem. So your vintage trem strat you can take off all the strings at once and restring and most likely not have any problems. With this type of floyd you can do that as well. With a regular floading floyd you can do as i stated above and that's just putting a block there or you can restring one string at a time.
+Kevin Carpenter The amp that I am using is a Marshall 9200 into a Marshall JMP-1 into a Marshall JFX-1. That's the secret. The strings are those fender bullets that it came with. . 09's
I know it's a couple of years since you posted this, but how is your opinion on the Jb Jr in the middle? I've seen Dave do 3 Hot Rails on some of his strats, but some having the Jb Jr in the middle. And Janick I believe plays Jb Jr in the neck and the bridge and a regular single coil in the middle?
jmiller......thanks for the video. Have you ever played one of Dave Murray's or Adrian Smith's American made signature guitars? I would be curious if you had if you had any opinion on the quality difference between those American made pro shop versions, vs, this Mexican made version of Murray's California series he has been playing since the early 90's. Also how is the finish on that guitar...to me it does not accurately represent the tobacco burst he actually uses. I actually own two of Smith's original American made and one of the Murray Black and white American made. Thanks.
I own the Adrian Smith USA Jackson so I can tell you the quality is still up to par with this guitar. I would confuse it for an American made guitar. But I obviously prefer Adrian's signature guitar. Now between the MIA and MIM Murray guitars I would actually go with the MIM guitar because to me it feels better and sounds better. I have played the other Murray for a while at a mate's house and I like this one better. As for the paint I think you're right. It's a little dark. But not much you can do about that.

(I have a couple of covers in RU-vid with it, Powerslave and Number... if you want to see...) In your opinion, there is a big difference between this two guitars in terms of sound quality? Alex Cerrato I've had the pleasure of playing the MIA fender and I will say that it is a very warm tone. The way they made this guitar is just flawless. I would seriously confuse it for an American made one, if it didn't say MIM on the headstock. The sound quality of this guitar is phenomenal! The neck pickup is seriously so warm and just an instant Dave Murray tone!

Alex Cerrato yeah I can explain! Most of the recording I do is from an iPhone so it sounds way better in person. The chain is guitar into the JMP-1 and then JFX -1. I have a tuner and a custom shop rack wah as well connected in that loop.

You've got three options. Do you want Adrian, Dave or Janick tone? What era are you trying to replicate? If you want classic 80's then get a jcm 800 and an mxr 10 band eq with a Phase 90 and a tube screamer. If you want modern then get a JMP-1 and JFX-1 and run a rack unit. Dave murray no longer uses the JFX instead he's using the tc electronics g force which is quite expensive, but it works well. Adrian is using a Marshall JVM 410 with a lexicon mx200 for the effects. As for Janick, he's still just using 9200 - jmp1 to jfx1
I saw them online (Sweetwater) for $999.99. Why so cheap, the previous Dave Murray Strat (black with maple neck, HSH (with two DiMarzio's) was almost double that price. Is it MIM? Is that price right? Why come out with a cheaper signature model and discontinue the more expensive model? (There is a difference in quality somewhere between a $1000 guitar and a $2000 from the same company.)
I think they're still continuing the old one. This one is made in Mexico, but plays like a decent USA model. They just wanted to make an affordable version. Adrian smith USA and Adrian smith SDX Steve Harris MIA and MIM etc. most artist do this.
jmiller09brophy They no longer show up on the intl.fender.com site (the site that automatically comes up if you are outside the US), the new sunburst one does (same thing for the Steve Harris bass, old one gone, new one with the West Ham sticker does). My friend wanted to order Dave Murray Stratocaster (black, HSH, maple neck) and his music store called Fender and were told that they were no longer available. I had emailed Fender customer relations and they had replied that the old ones were not discontinued, the new ones (like yours) were available and that there was another model yet that was to come out. Upon hearing of this, my friend went back to his music store who called Fender again and this time my friend was able to order the Dave Murray Stratocaster (black, HSH, maple neck) but,that there were only three left at Fender, that they were the demo models (the ones Fender keep in the showroom and behind display cases and that these were the last ones, discontinued. So my friend ordered one of these and is anxiously waiting for it. I think that most companies (example ESP with the different grades of Kirk Hammett KH-2 $3000 vs Kh-602 $900) do produce different grades of signature series. So, perhaps the as of yet unannounced newer still Dave Murray Strat will be a more expensive (but still relatively affordable, in the $2000 range) model. That would make more sense that to just not have anything in the upper end of the price range for the signature instrument. (Great video by the way. Up the irons!)
i am so upset with Fender for building Daves guitar in Mexico. I own an American and a Mexican Strat and there is a difference in quality especially the neck.

Yeah this is all original floyd rose. not the floyd special. I think this is a usa style guitar with the mexico stamp on the top. So yes and it's got hot rails and jb jr in it as well.
